Wayne City High School held its awards day program Friday. Over $535,000 in awards were announced during the program. Among the scholarships awarded and the scholarship recipients were: Jaxson Youngblood, receiving the Wayne County VFW Scholarship in the amount of $2000. Youngblood and Jayden Bailey also were winners of the Orlen Brach and Babe Ward Vocational Scholarships. Adam Loker received the IAA Foundation Harris Thomas Scholarship in the amount of $2000. Jayden Bailey received the Edward and Emma Cole Memoral Scholarship in the amount of $3200 for two years. Several other scholarships worth up to $1000 each were awarded. Jaden Boyd, Madelyn Caudle, Jarrett Lewis, Adam Loker, Kalyn Meritt and Kelcee Seymour were named Illinois State Scholars. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2129 new cases of the coronavirus Saturday and 21 additional deaths. State numbers as of this morning are at 1,353,226 cases and 22,193 deaths. White County Circuit Judge T. Scott Webb has again ruled Illinois’ FOID card is unconstitutional, setting the stage for the state Supreme Court to again examine the matter. In 2017, Vivian Brown was charged with violating the FOID card law by owning a rifle without a card; White County sided with her then, but, after an appeal to the Supreme Court, it opted not to make a decision last year.
The USDA has released Illinois county estimates for the 2020 hay harvest. Wayne County was estimated to have harvested 5,550 acres of non-alfalfa hay totaling 9,900 tons. Yield per acre was 1.8 tons. Edwards County harvested 2,300 acres for 5,700 tons, an average of 2.5 tons per acre. White County had 1,570 acres harvested for 3,030 tons. Statewide, Illinois farmers harvested 270,000 acres of non-alfalfa hay for 621,000 tons. Average statewide yield per acre was 2.3 tons. ....

The Wayne County Health Department reported nine new positive cases of the coronavirus Thursday and Friday, bringing the total number of lab-confirmed positive cases for the county to 1457.  The latest cases are two females in their 20s, a male in his 20s, a male in his 30s, a female in her 50s, a male in his 50s and three males in their 60s.  The health department also reports 148 “probable” cases of COVID-19 in Wayne County, with 11 of those currently isolating and being actively contact traced.  As of this morning the Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting a total of 1,141,219 cases of the coronavirus statewide and 19,526 deaths. ....
