Judge rejects effort to overturn Wolf dining ban

A Commonwealth Court judge has rejected an effort by a group of restaurants to overturn Gov. Tom Wolfâs ban on indoor dining implemented in response to rising COVID-19 cases.
Three Luzerne County restaurants â Tammyâs Kitchen in Larksville, Benny Brewing Co. in Hanover Twp. and Breaker Brewing Company in Wilkes-Barre Twp. â joined a statewide coalition of more than 20 Pennsylvania restaurants in the suit.
The lawsuit alleged Wolfâs order, which went into effect Dec. 12, violates the equal protection clause of the U.S. and Pennsylvania constitutions by unfairly treating bars and restaurants differently than other businesses that attract large groups of people. ....

Three Luzerne County restaurants and one in Lackawanna County have joined a legal battle to overturn Gov. Tom Wolfâs ban on indoor dining recently implemented in response to rising COVID-19 cases.
Harvest Seasonal Grill and Wine Bar in Moosic is among a group of restaurants statewide that signed on as plaintiffs to a recent lawsuit seeking an emergency injunction to overturn Wolfâs order and/or not let him extend it past its current expiration date of Jan. 4.
The business owner, Dave Magrogan, who owns nine locations in Pennsylvania and Delaware, testified Wednesday during a hearing before a Commonwealth Court judge. ....

State Receiver questions Chester's fiscal stability

In a report that alleges that the Chester Stormwater Authority offered the Philadelphia Union to reduce its fees in exchange for land for a basketball facility and that claims Chester City Hall is top heavy and elected officials there have not contributed to the city s fiscal stability, the state-appointed Receiver laid out actions needed to be taken to begin to steer the city toward financial solvency.
In response to the Receiver for the City of Chester Status Update filed with Commonwealth Court on Dec. 2, both city and Stormwater Authority officials had diametrically opposing views to the report s findings.
In the report, the Receiver noted that the office had been contacted by several city businesses, including the Philadelphia Union, who told them that Joseph Oxman, solicitor for the Stormwater Authority of the City of Chester, had approached the soccer organization to offer a reduction in its stormwater fees if it provided the authority land to build a basketball fac ....
