(PNA photo by Robert Oswald Alfiler) MANILA - Many areas in the country will experience rain showers brought by the southwest monsoon (habagat) affecting Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, the weather bureau said Monday. Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over the Visayas, Bicol Region, Metro Manila, Region 4-B (Mimaropa), Region 4-A (Calabarzon), and the provinces of Bataan, and Zambales. Flash floods or landslides are likely during moderate to at times heavy rains. Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said no other weather disturbance was seen inside and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms. Meanwhile, Tuguegarao's temperature could reach 33 C; Laoag up to 32 C; and up to 31 C in Metro Manila, Legazpi, Kalayaan Islands and Puerto Princesa. The temperature in Davao and Zamboanga c ....
MANILA-A lawmaker on Friday said the new law creating the Office of Judiciary Marshals (OJM) would not only provide better security to trial judges but also facilitate the efficient delivery of justice in the country. In a statement on Friday, Camarines Sur Representative Luis Raymund Villafuerte said President Rodrigo Duterte's signing of Republic Act (RA) No. 11691 or the Judiciary Marshals Act is the right step in strengthening the country's judicial system. Villafuerte said it is also "timely" given the increasing number of attacks against judges in the Philippines in recent years, citing Philippine Judges Association (PJA) data showing that five judges have been killed since 2017 totaling 31 active judges killed since 1999. He noted that only 10 percent of these killings were solved. "When our judges and justices feel safe, secure and protected, they can render their rulings on cases more efficiently, without feeling threatened or harassed," said Villa ....
(File photo) MANILA - Two weather systems the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and the low pressure area (LPA) embedded along with it will dampen most areas in the country Thursday, the weather bureau said. The LPA, last tracked 220 kilometers southwest of Zamboanga City, has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. "However, it will continue to bring rains over Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao," Grace Castaneda of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said. PAGASA forecast scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over these areas due to the LPA and ITCZ. "Take precaution and be alert against possible flooding and landslides," Castaneda said. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have fair weather due to the easterlies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail ....
MANILA - The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao and Palawan will cause rains over most areas in the country, the weather bureau said Wednesday. Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are forecast over the Visayas, Mindanao, Palawan, Sorsogon, Masbate and Romblon. "Be alert against possible floods and landslides," Grace Castaeda of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said. Castaeda added that because of the ITCZ, PAGASA is not discounting the possibility of a low-pressure area (LPA) developing inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the next few days. The LPA will likely bring rains over Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao, she said. Warm and humid weather, caused by the easterlies, will prevail across Luzon, especially at noon. Castaeda, however, said rains are likely in the eastern part of southern Luzon due to the ITCZ. Meanwhile, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will cont ....
MANILA - Rough seas are possible this Friday off northern Luzon and east of central and southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, making sailing dangerous. Northeast monsoon or "amihan" may continue to surge and bring strong winds that can cause rough conditions in the seas, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said Thursday. "We're monitoring the situation as amihan may either ease or continue surging," he said. Episodes of surging "amihan" are possible before the weather system ends around March, he added. On Thursday, PAGASA warned about moderate to rough seas and waves up to four meters high off western, northern, and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon, and eastern seaboard of Central Luzon due to 36 kilometers per hour (kph) to 59 kph winds associated with the surging "amihan". Moderate to very rough conditions are possible in seas east of southern Luzon ....
