'Habagat' continues to bring rain showers across Luzon

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila, Region 4-A (Calabarzon), Region 4-B (Mimaropa), and the provinces of Bataan and Zambales. Flash floods or landslides are possible in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said. In a late Monday advisory, PAGASA said Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales, Batangas, Cavite, Occidental Mindoro, and northern Palawan including Calamian Islands may experience light to moderate, with at times heavy rains in the next 24 hours. Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over the Visayas, Bicol Region, Metro Manila, Region 4-B (Mimaropa), Region 4-A (Calabarzon), and the provinces of Bataan, and Zambales. Dengue cases up 106% from Jan. 1-July 16

MANILA - The country has logged 82,597 dengue cases from January 1 to July 16 this year, 106 percent higher than the figure in the same period in 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday. In a Viber message to reporters, the DOH noted that cases for the same period last year totaled 40,096. A total of 319 deaths due to dengue were reported nationwide 36 in January; 31 in February; 39 in March; 46 in April; 63 in May; 72 in June; and 32 in July. Most of the dengue cases were reported in Central Luzon with 13,449 or 16 percent; Western Visayas, 8,905 or 11 percent; and the National Capital Region (NCR), 6,884 or 8 percent. For the period of June 19 to July 16, about 20,261 cases were recorded. Of the tally, 4,629 or 23 percent were from Central Luzon; 2,151 or 11 percent from Cagayan Valley; and 1,985 or 10 percent from the NCR. In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Metro Manila, Region 4-A (Calabarzon), Region 4-B (Mimaropa), Bicol Region, Aurora and the Visayas will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms. Flash floods and landslides remain likely during moderate to at times heavy rains, PAGASA said. The LPA was last tracked 420 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora and has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.
