reporter: well, i m here at deer park, which is just north of st. helene. around 8:00 tonight, pg&e purposely turned off all the lights because they re trying to protect this area from the danger of wildfires. now, if you take a look behind me, you ll three is absolutely no power at this hour. and if you look at the house next door, they have actually lit candles at the front doorstep. if you listen closely, you might be able to hear the generator going, and that s how they re able to power some of the lights inside. other than that, this entire neighborhood is pitch dark tonight. this is the first time ever pg&e has shut off power proactively to reduce the risk of wildfires. i just got off the phone with the pg&e spokesperson about the conditions in napa, sonoma, and lake counties tonight that led the company to make that decision. this is based on localized weather forecasts calling for gusty winds of up to 50 miles an hour tonight into monday morning. so approximately
