RON MACARTHUR PHOTO April 19, 2021 The City of Lewes, in partnership with Lewes In Bloom, will hold its annual tulip dig starting at 8 a.m., Tuesday, April 27, lasting until all gone. The rain date is Wednesday, April 28. So that everyone has an opportunity to bring some tulips home, organizers respectfully request that no one disturb the bulbs prior to 8 a.m., April 27; after that, it is first come first dig. Members of the public are invited to bring their shovels, spades, trowels and bags to assist the city and Lewes In Bloom with removing the tulip bulbs and giving them new homes. ....
February 2, 2021 Giles named new beach patrol captain Rehoboth Beach announced Jan. 28 that Jeffrey Giles, a 30-year veteran of the Delaware State Police, has been named as the new beach patrol captain. Giles, a Delaware native, held several DSP leadership positions, including supervising the maritime and scuba units. He also served on the safety committee for the annual Special Olympics Delaware Lewes Polar Bear Plunge that takes place in Rehoboth Beach. Rehoboth Beach Police Chief Keith Banks said Giles served five summers as a member of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol, including as a lieutenant, before he was with the state police. ....
DelDOT plans projects this summer and fall on popular cycling and walking pathway A section of the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail from Log Cabin Hill Road to Cool Spring Road was completed last May. Work will continue this fall with a crossing at Route 9 toward Fisher Road, and this summer with a section from Georgetown. Work on the trail from the Georgetown Little League complex to Airport Road is scheduled to begin this summer, with bids going out in May. Work on a section from Cool Spring Road to Fisher Road, including a Route 9 crossing, is scheduled to begin this fall, with bids going out in July. ....
