It started before 3 00 in the morning south of downtown. The pursuit lasted nearly a half hour. It finally ended when the man ditched his vehicle and tried to run. The k9 caught the man at southeast 4th and mlk. 37yearold shaun phelan of des moines was wanted by the atf on a warrant of felon in possession he also faces charges from the chase. New at 5 00 a 28yearold man , faces 16 charges in connection with a chase on interstate80 early this morning. The iowa state patrol says James Earl Overton took off when a trooper tried to stop him. Troopers say at one point overton was driving on the wrong side of the interstate. Overton started running on foot after a trooper performed a pit maneuver on his car.
