On Monday, Delhi recorded maximum and minimum temperatures of 20.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal and 12.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above the normal range.
The cold wave has intensified in Delhi-NCR and other parts of north India, with temperatures falling below the minimum and a thick layer of fog shrouding the region.
The persistent fog conditions in northern regions of the Indian subcontinent, including north India, have broken all records since the beginning of daily monitoring of satellite data in 2014. The thick fog layer sometimes engulfs the entire swathe of over 2,500 km from Lahore in Pakistan to Dhaka in Bangladesh. This winter season, the misty conditions/ low cloud cover has lasted for more than a month at a stretch, making it the longest fog spell in a decade.
Cold wave in India: Very dense fog was reported in isolated parts of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh and northwest Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday late night, according to the IMD.
