weekend car bombing in times square. the suspect in custody says he acted alone, but authorities are dubious. fayssal shahzad told investigators he trained in the notorious waziristan region an al qaeda hot bed. a law enforcement official i talked to said there is some evidence in pakistan but not sure about the suspect s waziristan claim. this much certain. an obama administration that initially hesitated to label it as terrorism now has no dount. make no mistake although this car bomb failed to properly detonate, this plot was a very serious attempt. if successful, it could have resulted in a lethal terrorist attack causing death and destruction in the heart of new york city. shahzad was arrested late monday as he attempted to flee the country and by sunrise the inevitable political debate in force. he is a naturalized american citizen but some of the president s republican critics immediately questioned why investigators read the suspect his miranda rights.
