expected to arrive at a well that is gushing oil into the gulf. crews will try to drop the dome on to the well and siphon off and contain the oil. it is an extremely risky move. wildlife officials and volunteers have been putting up barriers trying to keep the oil away from the shore. new information about the times square bombing suspect. a law enforcement source says that faisal shahzad made a trial run, a dry run, the day before, parking near times square and taking a train home to connecticut. now on saturday night he allegedly drove back to new york with makeshift explosives and parked in times square. the source says that is when he triggered the homemade bomb which did not explode. there is still no answer to what may have motivated the suspect allegedly. but a source familiar with the investigation says that shahzad believes that islam was under attack and he had some sort of grudge against the united states. former new york mayor rudy giuliani says the threat really hasn't changed since 9/11. >> september 11, which i think some people want to forget about, is still with us. meaning, the same reasons and the same group or groups that wanted to attack and kill us trunk and exam perred off. now the bomb squad looked over every inch of that thing. >> after the inspection by the bomb squad, and no explosives of any kind was found, inspected the undercarriage and cut a hole so they could visually inspect the vehicle. >> the bridge is open. police say the man that aband abandoned the truck was wearing black clothing. a boat carrying a giant steel funnel is expected to arrive at the well gushing oil in the gulf. the crews will try to drop this big dome on the well to syphon off the oil. it is an extremely risky move. wildlife officials and volunteers have been putting up barriers to keep the oil away from the shore. new this morning, some parents say that their babies got bad rashes and chemical burns after using a new kind of diaper. the government is looking into complaints involving pam pers with drymax. they say the diapers were thoroughly tested and there's no evidence that a single baby suffered a serious skin issue as a result of drymark. new information about the times square bomb suspect. faisal shahzad made a dry run the day before parking near times square and taking a train back home. saturday night he drove back to new york with a make shift explosive and parked at times scare. that is when he triggered the home made bomb which did not explode. shahzad believed that islam was under attack and he had some sort of grudge against the united states. former new york mayor rudely giuliani says the threat has not changed since 9/11. >> the threat of 9/11 is still with us, meaning the same reasons and the same group dead on monday. students and staff came out to celebrate a life cut short. thousands of people packed center of campus to show their support for yeardley love. several of love's teammates left in thursday. i'm robin meade. here's what's going on. believe it or not, a new scare for new york. this time somebody left a truck on a bridge and something about it made a toll collector very suspicious. flooding in nashville took so much from families and left behind so much to clean up. you'll hear some heartbreaking stories about loss. careful what you say in so-called private chat rooms. a facebook glitch that put the conversation out there for everybody to read. i know everyone is going, oops, what did i say yesterday on facebook chat. first, though, another scare for new york city last night. police closed off the robert f kennedy bridge after somebody abandoned a moving truck there and ran off. a toll collector called police because the u-haul had a strong smell of gasoline. the bomb squad looked over every inch of that thing. >> after the inspection by the bomb squad and no explosive of any kind was found. they cut a hole in the side so they could visually inspect the vehicle and nothing was found. >> well, the bridge is open now. police say that the man who abandoned the truck was wearing dark clothing and carrying a white bag. new york has been on edge since an attempted car bombing in times square. a boat carrying a giant steel funnel has arrived at the well that is gushing oil into the gulf of mexico. that news is from the associated press this morning. crews will try to drop the dome on to the well to try to siphon and contain the oil. if this does not work, it's not clear what will happen next. meanwhile, wildlife officials and volunteers have been putting up barriers to protect the shore. a law enforcement source says that fassel shahzad made a trial run the day before he parked near times square and took a train back home to connecticut. on saturday night, though, he allegedly drove back to new york with makeshift explosives and parked at times square. the source says that's when he triggered the homemade bomb, which as you know, did not explode. a source familiar with the investigation said that he believed islam was under attack and had some sort of grudge against the united states. former mayor rudy giuliani said the threat has not changed very much since september 11. >> september 11th, which some people want to forget about, is still with us. meaning the same reasons or the same group or groups that wanted to attack and kill us then are still motivating people to do that. so, this is now, this is now like the third one in less than a year. we had ft. hood and we had christmas and this one. the last two, we've been fo fortunate that they screwed up. >> beginning yesterday, the government started requiring the airlines to check the updated no fly lift within two hours of being notified of any changes. fayssal shahzad's name was on that list. the airline did not check for the updates. some parents are saying their little babies got rashes and chemical burns after using a new kind of diaper. the government is looking into the complaints involving pampers with dry max. the diapers were thoroughly tested, though, and there is no evidence that a single baby has experienced a serious skin safety issue as a result of dry max. but we needed to get you on top of that. nashville is slowly going back to work today despite what the mayor there estimates is at least a billion, with a "b," dama dollars in flood damage. they can't do anything but clean up the big mess. one salon owner says her shop is a total, but she plans to save one souvenir from the flood. >> we're going to keep that. how high the water will go, it is in the painting. >> a lot of people are without homes and that's serious. this stuff is not serious. you know, here's a look at some of the damage to homes in nashville. one was lifted right off the foundation. look how fast that water is moving. country star kenny chesney may have to rebuild, as well. he was out of town when the flooding started and he came home to his house under five feet of water. >> i was flying back home. you could see all of it from the air and i couldn't believe what had happened. i just couldn't believe that this, you know, you watch on the news and you see all this stuff happen all around the world, but this has really had an effect on this town and this state and it's really been really tough thing for people to deal sliding out from underneath his feet which caused him to fall down about 30 feet into a rock pile. >> honestly, the last thing i can remember is just watching rocks fall and then slipping and then i completely blacked out. >> well, after falling the first 30 feet on to the rocks, he slid and fell another 300 feet. you know, i hope for his sake he was unconscious during that. that would be so awful. but he had the cell phone and the car keys, so his friend ran ten miles for help. there was no cell phone service there, but he used the light from his phone to signal a search helicopter looking for him. what an ordeal. protesters in texas symbolically surrendered themself to deputies over arizona's controversial immigration law. >> my brothers and sisters in arizona and i would like to turn myself in. >> well, they went handcuffed to an el paso jail. they never said they were illegal immigrants. deputies turned them away. arizona police have to question people they even just suspect being illegal in the united states. supporters say that it could reduce illegal immigration, but protesters say it creates a climate of fear and persecution. the top five on "american idol" the economic effect on store owners that are now left with thousands of dollars of merchandise that they can't sell because it has roethlisberger's name on it. hln has reached out to roethlisberger's agent for comment on the caarticle, but w have yet to get a response. honoring lacrosse player yeardley love. she was found dead on monday. students, staff and friends packed the campus. several of love's teammates were there in attendance and interlocked arms during the ceremony. all left in tears. such a tragic, sad story and she was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend george huguely. both lacrosse teams will continue their season by honoring love. now, her funeral is saturday in her hometown in maryland. well, after two people ran on to the fields in philadelphia in back-to-back nights, the team has changed its procedure when it comes to handling those fans. from this point forward, the team's security staff will apprehend fans first unless there is more force that is deemed necessary. that's when the local police will step in. now, the team came to this decision after a local philly cop used his stun gun monday night to stop a 17-year-old who ran on to the field. you see in the pictures there. check out this crazy video. this is incredible. a race car leads a bunch of other race cars in the middle of a car race. top left of your screen. looks like a formula one car goes flying in the air literally over the top of oother cars. >> other cars crashed, too. >> amazing nobody in this crash, robin, was hurt. they were all able to walk away on their own two feet. incredible. >> if you're the person in the car, joe, can you imagine how high that must feel when you're the one flying through the air? one house was lifted right off the foundation. country star kenny chesney may have to rebuild, as well. he came home to his house under five feet of water. he's still trying to help other flood victims, though. >> i'm telling everybody at radio stations and on my own radio station that i have just to give whatever you can. i mean, people have lost everything, you know. we all saw what happened in haiti and we see and we all saw what happened over the world. these people need just bare essentials here in nashville. i know it's crazy to think that, but they really do. >> to find out how you can make a difference and help people in tennessee, go to our website. cnn.com/robin and hit the impact your world link. new this morning, some parents say their babies got really bad rashes, even chemical burns, after use ash new kind of diaper. the government is now looking into complaints involving pampers with dry max. procter and gamble, though, say the diapers were thur ooily tested and no evidence that a single baby experienced a single skin safety care issue as a result of dry max. a boat has arrived at the well that is gushing oil into the gulf, that news is from the associated press. crews will try to drop that dome on to the well to siphon off and fry to contain the oil. if this doesn't work, it is not clear what is next. meanwhile, wildlife officials and volteerns have been putting up barriers trying to keep the oil away from the shore. rocker bret michael says his brain hemorrhage felt like a gunshot to the back of his head. in his first interview, he tells "people" magazine that to him it sounded like a gunshot, too. it sounded like a pop. he asked the doctors, am i dying? thursday connected to friday. i'm robin meade. flood waters may be receding in tennessee, but the worst is not over yet in kentucky. flood warnings in some western parts of that state do not expire until next week. seven kentucky counties have declared state of emergency. officials estimate that more than half of the corn crop was destroyed in some of the areas. now, the floods also damaged some of tennessee's most famous landmarks. singer jo dee messina gives us a tour of the country music hall of fame where the basement theater flooded to the third row and most of the mroors and the walls will have to be redone. they were able to save some of the most priceless things in the building. >> when the flood first happened we were told or i saw in the news that, you know, archival films and recording and that stuff on the first floor were under water and that was not the case, absolutely not the case. they were on the fourth floor and they had planned that. so, i think they caught it on the front end. they're not here going, man, if we only, wow, bad planning. >> one couple's cleanup including getting their cow down from the roof of a shed. one of your fellow viewers sent in this ireport. he said the cow had been up there since the flooding started and the owners and the neighbors built a ramp to get it done. it did eventually make it down and went back out to the pasture. poor thing. new information now about the times square bomb attempt. the company from which faisal shahzad bought the fireworks found in the suv said they're too small to do any damage. shahzad bought half a dozen boxes of fireworks. the company president said that there is just not much gun powder there. >> there really is nothing that we sell that would make any kind of an impact. the only thing remotely connected would be a fuse, but our fuse, the safety fuse burns so slowly that it would not be very effective. so, honestly, i think this fellow was just barking up the wrong tree when he thought these fire crackers would do something. >> well, get this, a law enforcement source says that shahzad had to take the train home after he left times square because he left the keys to his get away car inside the suv. he waived his right to the lawyer and is cooperating with the fbi. a one of a kind portrait of michael jackson wasn't a thriller at auction at all. jackson sat for the painting before he died and a starting bid of nearly $3 million. the owner hoped that it would go for more than 3 mill, but nobody bid on it. the owner said he had two buyers interested, so maybe someone will buy it soon. >> how much did he want? >> little more than 3 mill. >> oh, my goodness. a whole lot of cash for a painting. well, wuone of kind, though. >> not a fun morning rush. >> no, it's not. the ending stages of cold front driving into the northeast, but as it happens, usually you get the stronger showers and thunderstorms out ahead of the cold front and that's the case this morning. we pinpoint right around central new york with the boundary and here comes the clouds and look at the rain, as well. heavy at times in central parts of maine and now extends back into new hampshire and portland some rain. you can see the radar picking it up. getting into bangor and slide off shore later this morning. once it happened, you'll see the winds pick up later today. winds in lower massachusetts and towards connecticut, too. live to new york city. you might see a shower early this morning, otherwise you're going to get the winds coming in later. little dark right there. statue of liberty in the harbor. winds will pick up to 30 miles per hour this afternoon. couple air travel delays out of that. central tennessee still flood warnings. all the areas shaded in green and the weather forecast, though, helpful once again. dry today, tomorrow, tomorrow night scattered showers and thunderstorms but not that big of a deal. out to the west, another snowmaker. wyoming and i'll tell you who sees what in just a couple minutes, robin. first week of may ending with heavy snow. >> snow, i can't believe that. okay, let's turn to wall street right now where investors have been keeping a close eye on europe this week. it has meant big losses for the united states stocks. stephanie elam is in new york with those details. all right, good morning. >> good morning, robin. the dow has dropped nearly 300 points over the last few days because of what's going on in europe. no huge losses in the early going here, but the greece is still a concern. budget-cutting measures and the company must slash spending to get the $146 billion bailout from the eu and imf. some positive economic signs here at home are also coming into play. new jobless claims dropped by 7,000 last week to 444,000. this marked the third decline in a row, a sign that layoffs are slowing. retailers like costco and the limited and macy's are reported upbeat sales numbers for april, as well. more trouble for freddie mac. they lost $8 billion last quarter and says it needs another $10 billion from the government. freddie has received $50 billion from the treasury. finally, robin, we sniffed out this story just for you. national hamburger month. and, get this, what better way to celebrate than to get a candle for national hamburger month that smells like a white castle burger. >> are you kidding me? (laughing) wake up on t bright side at la quinta inns and suites la quinta! 100% natural nuts and granola in bite sized clusters. it's a little bit of nature... a little bit better. and nature approves. granola nut clusters from nature valley. we just got unbelievable video of an airport cart careening out of control in a very busy terminal. it happened in march, actually, in houston. you can see the cart plowright into a passenger. the driver ended up underneath the cart and the two people riding in the cart were also hurt. apparently somebody's bag was on the gas pedal. yikes. today casey anthony could find out how much taxpayer money she'll get for her defense. she denies killing her daughter, caylee. prosecutors want the death penalty if she is convicted and that will drive up the costs. i spoke with ryan smith from our sister network about why this could give us insight into her defense strategy. >> you could look at this like an accountant looking at a balance sheet and trying to figure out what it is all about. it gives us insight into what this case is going to be all afwrout the defense. the big deal here, casey anthony was determined indegent. they are going to pay her costs, not her lawyer's legal fees, but her costs. >> the costs include money for the expert witnesses. did you realize you actually have to pay for the experts. >> i don't like it. >> yeah. joe getting opinionated on us. i don't think a lot of people like that. that's true. a new issue of "sports illustrated" will hit the stands this week and i don't think ben roethlisberger will keep this one. >> he will not want extra copies to pass out to his friends. they're going out and getting first account stories from people who know ben roe roethlisberger and they're all basically giving bad stories about the guy and downward spiral. the issues centered around ben roethlisberger and all the troubles the last few years. it claims he is an entitled jock who has tried to big-time his way out of every sticky situation he has been in. and a team of si writers interviewed friends, former coaches, media and friends. in pittsburgh countless people say roethlisberger throws his weight around the city, asking those who got in his way, hey, don't you know who i am. the economic effects on store owners who are now left with thousands of dollars of merchandise that they can't sell because it has roethlisberger's name on it. we have yet to receive a response from him. well, sad story to tell you here. a candlelight vigil was held on the university of virginia's campus last night honoring lacrosse player yeardley love. students, staff and friends were on hand. they packed a center of campuses area to celebrate a life that was cut tragically short. several of love's teammates interlocked arms during the ceremony and all of them left in tears. love a 22-year-old senior was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend george huguely. after love's mother gave the school her blessing, the university said both lacrosse teams will continue to honor love by finishing their lacrosse seasons. her funeral is this saturday in her hometown in maryland. well, after two people ran on to the field in philadelphia in back-to-back nights the team said they're changing their procedure when handling the fans that run on to the field. from this point forward the team security staff will apprehend unless more force is deemed necessary. that's when the local police would step in. the team came to the decision after a local philly cop used his stun gun to stop a 17-year-old who ran on to the field during there game, robin. i think they're changing the procedure to best fit that team. >> so much talk about the use of force there, as well. i'm sure they want people to stop running on the field. >> on the field. >> absolutely.
