Wednesday, July 21, 2021 Pamela Watts continues to plead for justice and accountability for the death of Jennifer Miller, who died in a car crash caused when an off-duty San Marcos Police Department officer collided with her vehicle in June 2020. Watts Miller’s life partner and a group of supporters met at San Marcos City Hall on Wednesday, hoping to provide City Manager Bert Lumbreras and Mayor Jane Hughson with a personalized calendar stocked with photos of Miller and an image of the crash that occurred. But when she arrived inside City Hall, Watts was told neither were available. “Both of these parties knew we were coming and they’re conveniently, they don’t want to talk to us about accountability,” Watts told the group inside City Hall. “They’re ashamed of their actions because there has been none toward accountability, there have been none toward justice. I simply will not accept that.” ....
Thursday, July 15, 2021 Drivers passing through East Hopkins Street will now have to pay closer attention as two pedestrian hybrid beacons are now operational. The installed beacons are part of the City of San Marcos’ East Hopkins Bike and Pedestrian Improvement Project, which included broadening sidewalks to 10-feet wide, adding pedestrian lighting and improving traffic movements at the intersection of Charles Austin Drive. The flashing beacons will now allow pedestrians to cross East Hopkins Street at two new locations to access City Park, the Activity Center, the San Marcos Public Library and City Hall. The beacons will flash yellow to alert motorists after a pedestrian has activated them. The beacons will then turn red and drivers should stop as they do at a red light, the city said. Additionally, drivers should stop before proceeding if the crossing is clear when the beacons are flashing red. ....

Huge thanks to our officers for their hard work and diligent efforts to solve these crimes and keep our community safe, said Chief Stan Standridge in a press release detailing the arrests. According to police, officers with the San Marcos Police Department were dispatched to the I Don t Know Bar on East Hopkins Street around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec 12 for an aggravated assault. Bar staff reportedly called the police and reported that a Hispanic male, later identified as Edward Eddie Rodriguez, Jr., 36, of Bertram, pulled a knife on the bouncer. ....
