Pamela Watts and community members gathered at San Marcos City Hall on July 21, continuing to demand accountability for the death of Jennifer Miller, who died after a car wreck involving off-duty San Marcos police officer Sgt. Ryan Hartman.
The wreck occurred on June 10, 2020. More than a year after the incident, Watts, Miller s partner, continues to seek justice for Miller and asks for the termination of Hartman from his position within the San Marcos Police Department.
According to police reports, Hartman had been driving while talking on the phone moments leading up to the collision. There was also an open container of Dos Equis beer found inside his truck. ....

Justice for Jennifer pleas continue as friends, family protest Wednesday

Wednesday, July 21, 2021
Pamela Watts continues to plead for justice and accountability for the death of Jennifer Miller, who died in a car crash caused when an off-duty San Marcos Police Department officer collided with her vehicle in June 2020.
Watts Miller’s life partner and a group of supporters met at San Marcos City Hall on Wednesday, hoping to provide City Manager Bert Lumbreras and Mayor Jane Hughson with a personalized calendar stocked with photos of Miller and an image of the crash that occurred.
But when she arrived inside City Hall, Watts was told neither were available.
“Both of these parties knew we were coming and they’re conveniently, they don’t want to talk to us about accountability,” Watts told the group inside City Hall. “They’re ashamed of their actions because there has been none toward accountability, there have been none toward justice. I simply will not accept that.” ....

San Marcos allocated $18.1 million through American Rescue Plan

The City of San Marcos was recently allocated $18.1 million through the American Rescue Plan.
The funding is distributed by the U.S. Department of Treasury in response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the city, funds may be used to respond to acute pandemic response needs, fill local government revenue shortfalls, and for investments in critical water, sewer, and broadband infrastructure.
“As our recovery from the economic hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic continues, this funding will ensure the City is able to continue to provide essential services with the care and efficiency our residents deserve,” City Manager Bert Lumbreras said in a statement. “We extend our gratitude to our federal delegation who supported this legislation, including Rep. Lloyd Doggett and Rep. Vicente Gonzalez.” ....

Council OKs Cape's Dam agreement with county

Leave out the science.
That’s what one San Marcos City Councilmember suggested when discussing the Cape s Dam Complex. During the recent city council meeting Tuesday, councilmember Melissa Derrick said during the approval of an interlocal agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of San Marcos and Hays County to leave the science out of the discussion.
I would like to strike one of the whereas. Where it says, whereas the scientific community has also pointed out that the flow rate and the main channel of the San Marcos River in the Mill Race are important factors to consider in the protection of river wildlife, etc. That is not the science for which a lot of scientists believe, Derrick said. I think that we need to leave the science out of this. ....
