Newly elected DeSoto Mayor Rachel Proctor pledges accountability
Former Mayor Pro Tem Kenzie Moore III vowed to remain involved in the community despite his loss in this week’s election.

The dust has settled on DeSoto’s mayoral election, with Rachel Proctor earning more than 60% of the vote to complete the late Mayor Curtistene McCowan’s unexpired term.
Proctor, a former mayor pro tem, thanked voters for supporting what she called her “Back to the Basics” platform and pledged to be accountable to her constituents.
“I’m excited to join the efforts of the current Council as we continue to work to address the needs of our residents, businesses, and faith community most impacted by the current pandemic while leveling as much support for our city as possible,” she said. ....

Rachel Proctor has won a special election to fill the late Curtistene McCowan’s term as DeSoto mayor.
The former DeSoto mayor pro tem earned more than 60% of the vote to defeat Mayor Pro Tem Kenzie Moore III, who has been leading the council since McCowan died Oct. 28 after being diagnosed with lung cancer several weeks earlier. ....

A Heartbreaking Loss
On Monday evening, James and Linda Zander passed away after battling COVID-19 since early December. The beloved couple once referred to as the “dynamic duo” by former Mayor McCowan, passed away in the same hospital room.
James and Linda Zander loved the City of DeSoto and spent time serving the city in various roles over the years.
James served on the DeSoto City Council for seven years. Prior to that post, he served four years on the DeSoto Economic Development Corporation Board.
Mayor Pro Tem Kenzie Moore III, said “The loss of former City Councilmember James Zander and his dear wife Linda was very sad news for DeSoto. I replaced James on the DeSoto City Council at his recommendation, and that recommendation was important to me. ....
