And for the 12th straight time and 63rd overall, the Jays came out on top. “It’s special, it’s special to be a part of this rivalry,” Jefferson City coach Damon Wells said after the Jays’ 63-19 victory on Senior Night against Hickman in Central Missouri Activities Conference play. “I think it means a heck of a lot to heck of a lot of people, so it’s definitely special.”

The Jays and Kewpies have the second-oldest longest rivalry west of the Mississippi River, only trailing Webster Groves-Kirkwood dating to 1898, as the two sides first squared off in 1911 and have played at least once a season since 1919.
