The $8.75 million center on Iowa City s south side will make 23-hour crisis observation, 5-day crisis stabilization, detoxification and a sobering unit available to the region.
Advocates say they hope the state will simplify billing procedures and make additional funds, including Medicaid, available to support the facility s work.
Arguably the most consequential addition to the area in 2021 will be the GuideLink Center, at 300 Southgate Ave. in Iowa City. The $8.75 million facility is a milestone representing a collaboration from officials across Johnson County, including the city governments of Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, University Heights and more.
The space will be home to the overlapping services of Prelude Behavioral Services, the Penn Center, the Abbe Center for Community Mental Health, CommUnity Crisis Services and the Mobile Crisis Outreach Program, all of which hope to provide a third option for people in crisis, over a jail cell or an emergency room.
