Hoping to see the region s new GuideLink Center succeed as a third choice to a jail cell or emergency room, Reynolds visit was far from a celebration as the facilities supporters advocated for more state support.

The $8.75 million center on Iowa City s south side will make 23-hour crisis observation, 5-day crisis stabilization, detoxification and a sobering unit available to the region.
Advocates say they hope the state will simplify billing procedures and make additional funds, including Medicaid, available to support the facility s work.

The opening of a new mental health access center in Iowa City is being lauded by Gov. Kim Reynolds and Department of Human Services Director Kelly Garcia. The officials toured the brand new facility Thursday to learn more about the approach, which advocates call innovative.
All too often, people experiencing a behavioral health or substance use crisis find themselves in an emergency room or a jail, when what they really need is immediate, accessible, short-term care. The new GuideLink Center in Iowa City is meant to provide exactly that, without overly criminalizing or medicalizing the patient.

2020 is coming to a close, and it is time for honoring a few select Johnson County residents with that most treasured of honors, the Salvos Salute.
This is the fifteenth annual set of awards, and there are always more people who deserve awards than there are awards to give. We live in a great county!
