40-year-old Ray E. Tate appeared in Wayne County Circuit Court yesterday for a negotiated change of plea. After pleading not guilty in February to 38 counts related to the death of Wayne County Deputy Sean Riley, he pleaded guilty to Count 9 – first-degree murder – and the remaining counts were dismissed. Chamber Director Libby Lingafelter says the event was a success in bringing people to Fairfield, even with rain forcing a postponement Friday. She says the City and Chamber will look at holding a similar event next Christmas and hope to grow and refine it. The Volunteers for the Christmas Dinner will again hold a dinner on Christmas Day at the Fairfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located east of WalMart. As with last year, only carry-out, drive-through, and delivery options will be available this year. Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; deliveries will only be made within the Fairfield city limits, but anyone who would like to pick up and deliver meals in the outlying areas may do so.
