The Graham Chamber of Commerce hosted its first State of the Community luncheon last week and gathered representatives from local taxing entities to provide updates regarding current and upcoming projects, accomplishments and goals. The event was hosted Tuesday, March 19 as one of the chamber’s quarterly luncheons at North Central Texas College. Speakers were Mayor Alex Heartfield, City Manager Eric Garretty, Graham Regional Medical Center CEO Shane Kernell, Graham ISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse and NCTC Director Dr. Magen Bunyard.

Playground equipment repair, testing begins at Firemen s Park

Repairs to a piece of playground equipment at Firemen’s Park began this week in response to an accident at the beginning of January where a 5-year-old Throckmorton girl was injured. Graham City Manager Eric Garretty announced Thursday, Feb. 1 that repairs on the Inclusive Orbit “merry-go-round” at Firemen’s Park, which became accessible to the public in early December, began with Child’s Play, Inc. The city manager said the accident drew attention to the piece of equipment and the city has been working to develop a plan for repair or replacement.

Mitigation efforts continue on ruptured city water storage tank

The city is continuing mitigation efforts following the rupture of a sodium hypochlorite storage tank at the Graham Water Treatment Plant in November. The estimated mitigation cost covered by insurance is $200,000. Graham City Manager Eric Garretty and Public Works Director Randall Dawson updated the Graham City Council during their meeting Thursday, Dec. 7. “The cleanup at the water plant is still underway from the incident we had back in November,” Dawson said. “They have excavated all the soil and should start disposing of that this week.”
