As we take a live look outside in San Francisco, also in some spots, at times, we will have improved air quality starting out this week, but it will be very unhealthy in the north bay and in the valley. So, with that locally dense smoke moving into parts of the bay area, we will have to still limit our Time Outdoors today. As we look at the wind speeds blowing offshore, thats a very dry wind. We will only see the winds picking up to 5 or 6 Miles Per Hour into this afternoon. Good news there. Also cooler temperatures on the way and theres rain in the forecast. Ill have more on all of that coming up in a few minutes. Mike is checking in on a big rig on 680. I will talk about the north bay in a second. I wanted to zoom over here because im concerned about this big rig. Until it clears the slow lanes, the tow truck is on scene. The big rig is stuck in south 680. We dont have the big traffic yet. Know about that if that is your route and stay to the left as you are passing through the area.
Weather. The weather plays a big role in the fight of the fire. It does. We have had winds shifting the past couple days. Thankfully over the weekend, the winds were not as strong as expected. We are going to have poor air quality across the bay. Outside in San Francisco, another spare the air alert day especially for the north bay. Inland areas, some of the valleys that smoke will settle in. Winds will be light and variable. At times things will change. We have a mainly offshore flow with winds picking up at 5 Miles Per Hour but for the most part looking calm, which is great news. Then we have a shift as we head into the day tomorrow. As we will have that return of the on shore flow. Its going to transport more humidity and also cooler temperatures into the bay area. Ill talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. Two miles west of highway 29. There you can see his water tender. It lost control and went over the edge of the road there. This happened around 6 50 this marking. This is one of the steepest roads in napa county. The driver came around this bend, his rig and empty tender rolled sideways, and landed upside down on the side of a very, very steep hill. There are skid marks on the road, but chp isnt sure that indicates he applied his breaks before the accident. They will perform a mechanical inspection to see if his equipment failed. They will investigate whether he was driving too fast and the also see if fatigue played a factor. Cal fire points out this is the eighth day of this fire fight here in wine country. Everyone is getting tired. There have been no breaks for the firefighters since the fires erupted last sunday evening. And so, yes, people are getting tired and that is a factor that we are aware of. Arrott street. Two hours later crews had the flames under control, but the roof had partially collapsed. So, with the possibility of further collapse, firefighters worked outside after collapse zone, dousing stubborn flames with water. One of the things that makes it so stubborn, when the roof collapses, the material that makes a roof somewhat waterproof prevents our water from getting out. Eight people from neighboring home had to be evacuated as a precaution, and they are becoming all too familiar with fire, officials tell us, there was another fire here at the vacant building just one week ago. It appears it is what suspicious given that no one lives there, no utilities in place. Back out here on scene, you can see, firefighters still dealing with hot spots behind me, and all of the ice being coated on the tree, definitely very cold night to be out here doing this type of work this morning. They will determine a cause, little bit later on today, theyll start that cause investigation
