The Fairfield City Council met Tuesday night. After approval of minutes and bills, Joseph Harrelson of 809 George St. addressed the council during public session. Harrelson, who has resided on George St. for 14 years is seeking extra patrols and help from the city to address issues in his neighborhood, which he says is a drug area that needs to be cleaned up. Harrelson claims to have had his property damaged on multiple occasions, including the breaking of the windows on his house and the killing of his dogs. In routine business, the purchase of a police vehicle was pulled from the agenda due to the dealership being unable to take the order for the truck until October. The council discussed the police eligibility list stating that as of last Friday the city had four applicants, however one applicant had withdrawn. Elaina Kunce and Blaine Milner were crowned this year's Homecoming Queen and King at the Fairfield Community High School coronation ceremony Saturday night at the Train Yard. Kunce is the daughter of Richard and Tanya Harvey and the late Shannon Kunce, and Milner is the son of Andy and Stephanie Milner. The other Queen candidates were Valorie Dagg and Cassidy Webb. The other King candidates were Konnor Dagg and Camden Robbins. Saturday's coronation capped off a full week of Homecoming activities. Friday's weather forced the postponement of the Fairfield Community High School Homecoming Coronation to tonight, and delayed the start of Friday night's Homecoming football game. The Mules defeated Edwards County in the game 58 to 0. The Homecoming Parade was held Friday afternoon in Fairfield with a good crowd on hand to view the festivities. The winning parade entries were announced, with first place going to the FFA, second place to the Class of 2025 and third place to the Class of 2024. Richie Fulkerson will begin his tenure as Fairfield Chief of Police on July 12th, after he was appointed to the position and approved by the City Council Tuesday night. He says he has nearly 30 years of experience with Illinois State Police that will help him run a smaller city force, and, though the budget will be smaller, he says Fairfield is well-equipped. Several Fairfield FFA members were honored at an awards ceremony at SIU Friday as part of the District 5 State FFA Convention. Sara McGehee received her State Winner plaque for the second straight year in the FFA State Agri-Science Fair in Environmental Systems.
