Fairfield police say a 69-year-old man died in a motorcycle crash last night at the Intersection of Route 45 and Highway 15 west of Fairfield. Police say he appeared to be westbound on Highway 15 at approximately 8:50 when he lost control and struck a curb, then a traffic sign. The motorcycle then hit another curb and ejected the operator. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of family. The City of Fairfield, with the assistance of Frontier Community College, has announced a Back to Business Grant workshop later this week. The workshop will be held in Room 24 of Mason Hall from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Fairfield Zoning Officer Flo Simpson will be on hand to assist businesses in submitting their grant applications; the program will begin accepting applications on Wednesday, and it will close October 11th. 25-year-old Brodey I. Murbarger appeared in Wayne County Circuit Court yesterday for a status hearing. His attorney said the review of discovery materials in the jail was going well, and he agreed to meet privately with the State's Attorney to discuss scheduling a jury trial. Another pre-trial conference was scheduled for June 29th at 9 a.m., and, barring a compelling reason against, that meeting will be in-person at the courthouse. 23-year-old Toria Emerson, 31-year-old Richard Emerson, and 42-year-old Troy Gwaltney saw additional charges filed against them, per online court records, over the weekend. The three faced counts of concealment of a homicidal death in relation to the death of 32-year-old Chase Mitchell in Saline County last year, and they now each face three counts of first-degree murder. 25-year-old Brodey I. Murbarger is set to appear in a status hearing via Zoom in Wayne County Circuit Court at 10:30 Tuesday morning. The county will return to scheduling jury trials on that date, so the hearing will allow his defense and the prosecution to discuss the possibility of setting a trial date. No new evidence or motion outside of scheduling a jury trial is anticipated.
Fairfield Community High School sophomore Aiden Whitfield recently won the regional ICTM Geometry competition, earning a medal for placing at the top of more than 30 participants, according to Math Team Coach Tammy Austin.
