1 man in custody after police standoff in Mt. Pleasant borough

One man was taken into custody Monday morning after a standoff with police in Mt. Pleasant Borough, according to Mayor Jerry Lucia.
Lucia was not certain what led to the incident that began about 6 a.m., but one man was taken into custody about 7 a.m. at a residence on Pine Street.
Bernie Bailey, who lives on College Avenue about one block away from the incident was awakened by the sound of the fire siren about 6:20 a.m. ....

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Robert (Bob) Druhar announce his passing on May 7, 2021 with his family by his side at TBRHSC.
He is survived by his wife Susan (nee Bailey) of almost 49 yrs, daughters Erin (Dave), Amy (Kelvin), grandchildren Danielle (Tyvis), Matthew, Brooklynn, Madison and great grandson Jackson, brother Stephen (Donna), sisters Barbara (Phil) Payne, Elizabeth Andruski (Dave Canfield) father-in-law Ernie Bailey, sister in-law Ricky, brother in-law Bill (Holly), nieces, nephews & cousins. Predeceased by his parents Francis and Elizabeth & mother in-law Jean Bailey.
Bob was employed by the Thunder Bay Police Force for 31 ½ yrs. Bob’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather & great grandfather. He loved hunting, fishing, quadding and spending time at the family farm. ....

The 100-year-old Howson Dam in Wingham could be nearing its end.
North Huron Council have instructed staff to come up with how much it will cost to take down the dam.
Reeve Bernie Bailey says the dam was built in 1921 and holds so much history.
But he say its starting to deteriorate and is becoming a safety issue.

Bailey says the Township’s Dam and Pond Committee, which had originally called for the dam to be saved, are considering whether to install a weir dam in its place once the structure is taken down.

Wingham to have OPP satellite office again

The Reeve of North Huron is excited to see an OPP satellite office open up in Wingham.
The detachment was one of several closed in Huron County after the opening of the main detachment in Clinton (shown in photo) last June.
Bernie Bailey says the new office space located in the back of Petropolis (on Josephine Street) was loaned out by a pair of Wingham businessmen (Doug Kuyvenhoven and Jeff Drost).
He says it was borne by a need to have some OPP presence in the town.

Bailey says despite losing their local police service in favour of the Ontario Provincial Police, residents are quite happy with the service. ....
