New signs look set to be installed at the Gainsborough Drive pond in north Lowestoft, with information leaflets delivered to homes nearby after concerns were raised in the past couple of months over the feeding of ducks and changes in water quality. The 100-year-old Howson Dam in Wingham could be nearing its end. North Huron Council have instructed staff to come up with how much it will cost to take down the dam. Reeve Bernie Bailey says the dam was built in 1921 and holds so much history. But he say its starting to deteriorate and is becoming a safety issue.
Bailey says the Township’s Dam and Pond Committee, which had originally called for the dam to be saved, are considering whether to install a weir dam in its place once the structure is taken down. ....

At the April fifth regular meeting of the Spencer village board, the board was very happy to appoint a candidate, Kevin Brown, to be the new village code enforcement officer. Unfortunately Brown accepted before learning the full scope of all the duties and time requirements for the code enforcement officer. Brown spoke to the Spencer town code enforcement officer to learn the full extent of his expected duties. When he realized that there were many more hours required to do the job that he anticipated, he decided that these duties would be more then he as a retired person wanted to give to the job. ....
