Fairfield Water Dept employees will continue flushing hydrants throughout the city today and tomorrow. This is done each spring and fall to test the hydrants and help keep your water supply clean and pure. The City of Fairfield is required by ILL EPA to inform residents of the possible lead content in the water supply during hydrant flushing. While flushing the hydrants, you may notice that your water may be temporarily discolored. While flushing occurs, you may also experience a dip in water pressure, and it might affect the lead plumbing in and outside your home, if your home is equipped with lead plumbing. If your water is discolored, it does not mean it is unsafe to drink. It just means there is a temporary increase in the concentration of iron within the water. While lines are being flushed, residents are urged to check for discoloration of your water before doing laundry or similar activities. Wayne County Treasurer Donna Masterson is reminding Wayne County Tax Payers that the first installment of Real Estate Taxes is due this Friday, October 7th. Taxes may be paid in person at the Treasurer's Office between 8a.m. and 4:30p.m. After office hours taxes may be paid utilizing the drop box located on the west side of the Courthouse. Real Estate Tax Payments may also be made at the following bank locations: First Financial, Cisne Trust, Mt. Erie Banking Center, People's National Bank, and Fairfield National Bank's Fairfield & Wayne City branches. For questions, or to obtain more information call the Treasurer's Office at 842-5087. The 2022 Fairfield PaintOut ended Saturday with an awards presentation to participating artists. Twenty artists submitted more than 175 works for the show & sale that was held at the Floral Hall on the Wayne County fairgrounds. All proceeds from the sale of paintings went to the artists. All Senior class students attending Wayne County Illinois high schools will have the opportunity to participate in the student class trip to Washington D.C. for the first time in four years. The last time 12th graders from Cisne, Fairfield, and Wayne City High Schools were able to take this annual trip to D.C was April, 2019, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year's trip will be extended by an extra day for the first time, allowing the students to also tour Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, the amazing home and property of America's third President near Charlottesville, VA. This new feature will be part of the return trip home, following the Seniors' experience of many of the highlights of our Nation's Capital. This upcoming student trip is scheduled for April 20th - April 24th, 2023. The Bernard and Naomi L.
