BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Congress-AIUDF pre-poll alliance has made the Assam elections a battle of civilisations.

Guwahati: Assam minister Himata Biswa Sarma has branded the upcoming Assembly elections in the state to be a polarised contest and blamed the Congress-All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) pre-poll alliance for making the poll battle a conflict of civilisations . 
He added the elections would have been fought on the plank of development had the Grand Old Party contested separately.
By forging an alliance with communal party Congress has polarised the election. Had Congress contested separately, polls would have been fought on development issues. But by aligning with AIUDF, the Congress has made this poll a conflict of civilizations, Sarma told news agency ANI. ....

GUWAHATI: United Liberation Front of Asom (pro-talks) leader Pradip Gogoi was arrested on Monday night for allegedly conspiring to assassinate Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Gogoi, held from his Guwahati residence, was on Tuesday produced in a court that sent him to police custody.
Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed the arrest.
“There was some information that he (Gogoi) and others were conspiring to assassinate the minister (Sarma). We arrested him based on source evidence,” Gupta said.
Two others from the hill district of Karbi Anglong were also arrested for their alleged involvement in the case. ....

Senior BJP leader and NEDA convener Himanta Biswa Sarma during a public rally ahead of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) elections, at Mathanguri in Assam’s Baksa.
A delegation of Asom Gana Parishad, Bodoland Territorial Region s CEM Pramod Boro and BJP leaders met Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda on Wednesday, ahead of the forthcoming assembly elections, informed Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Speaking about the meeting, Sarma said, We are working out the modalities and a formal alliance will be declared tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the seat-sharing arrangement for the Assam assembly elections between the ruling BJP and its allies – AGP, UPPL and GSP would be finalised in Delhi in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national President JP Nadda, Himanta Biswa Sarma said today. ....
