Nominations Being Taken for 2021 Clements Award for History/Civics Teachers

 The National Archives and the University of Kentucky Libraries Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center are now taking self-nominations for the Earle C. Clements Innovation in Education Award for Civics and History Teachers (Clements Award). The submission deadline is May 14.
The Clements Award recognizes promising and innovative Kentucky educators and honors the life and career of the late governor, senator and representative, Earle C. Clements.
This year, the National Archives and UK Libraries will be honoring up to six history and/or civics (social studies) teachers from elementary, middle and high schools throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. ....

(April 9, 2021) As the end of the spring semester draws near, University of Kentucky Libraries would like to remind undergraduate students about two special opportunities available annually through the libraries to help showcase and enhance their research, including the Learning Lab Internship and the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Scholarship.

60 Years of Peace Corps History Preserved Through New, Continuing Partnerships With UK Libraries' Nunn Center

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 2, 2021) On March 1, 1961, President John F. Kennedy signed an executive order that established the Peace Corps as a volunteer agency in the U.S Department of State. Sixty years later, as the agency celebrates its diamond anniversary, University of Kentucky Libraries’Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History is continuing its work with local and national partners to preserve many of the stories and experiences of the more than 241,000 Americans who have served in the Peace Corps.
From stories of volunteers evacuated from their host countries at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic to accounts from some of the first groups to volunteer with the agency, the Nunn Center has helped the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) collect and preserve a wide array of interviews with former volunteers from 1993 to the present. ....

King Library Press Explores 'Pandemic Printing' With Spring Virtual Lecture Series

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 15, 2021) Join University of Kentucky Libraries’King Library Press this spring for the 2021 “Pandemic Printing” Virtual Lecture Series. Featuring prominent printers from around the country, over the next three months this series will give audiences multiple chances to hear from book artists as they share their experiences printing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Last April, Kadin Henningsen, who I met in 2019 at Rare Book School, emailed me to ask for my address as he was getting ready to start printing ‘a series of pandemic postcards,’” UK Libraries rare books librarian Colleen Barrett said. “This correspondence did much to raise my spirits in a very stressful year, and also got me wondering what others were doing to adapt to all our changed circumstances.” ....
