Anthony Casale resigns as city attorney | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS By | GLOVERSVILLE – A joint news release from Mayor Vincent DeSantis and Anthony “Tony” Casale Thursday announced Casale will end his 11-year tenure as city attorney on Sept. 4. “Throughout the last several days, we have met and discussed the history of events that have unfolded over the last several months,” reads the news release. “We mutually agree that rather than going down a path of potential further controversy over the next several weeks and months, it would be better for both the city and Attorney Casale for us to amicably part ways and end on a high note.” ....
Gloversville purchases foreclosed houses for $145K | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 GLOVERSVILLE – The Common Council Tuesday night unanimously approved purchasing 10 foreclosed properties for a total of $145,404 from Fulton County in what Mayor Vince DeSantis called a “watershed” moment in the city’s battle against blighted properties. “These are properties that were foreclosed on in 2020,” DeSantis said. “Out of all of the properties that were foreclosed on [in Gloversville] there were only 22 of them, and only 13 of them were houses, the others were vacant lots or commercial properties. So, we offered to make the county whole for all of the taxes and penalties on these properties over the past three years. The city will now benefit from having control over these properties.” ....
GHA Board discusses 6th new director since 2017 | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 GLOVERSVILLE – The Gloversville Housing Authority met Monday night and went into executive session for more than an hour and half to discuss the appointment of a new executive director, but then emerged from the closed door meeting without having hired anyone. After the meeting, GHA Board President Brenda Liett said the board hopes to resolve the vacancy soon. “We want the director replaced as soon as possible, but I can’t give you any other information,” she said. Former GHA Director Amanda Ossenfort left the authority in April, a little more than six months after inking a four-year deal to oversee the authority’s three low-income and senior housing apartment complexes. ....
Gloversville committee report gives its ‘opinion’ Rowback was ‘untruthful’ | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 GLOVERSVILLE The Common Council on Wednesday night voted 5-2 to adopt the conclusions of the Special Investigation Committee report on the conduct of Councilman-at-large William Rowback Jr. including that he exceeded his authority in threatening to fire city employees, exposed the city to potential lawsuits and was “untruthful” to the committee when giving testimony under oath. The report states that it is the committee’s “opinion that Rowback’s responses were untruthful and that the information provided by the other witnesses was credible.” Although the report is based on sworn testimony, the investigation was not subject to the evidence standards of a criminal probe, and appears unlikely to result in criminal charges. ....
