GLOVERSVILLE – A joint news release from Mayor Vincent DeSantis and Anthony “Tony” Casale Thursday announced Casale will end his 11-year tenure as city attorney on Sept. 4.
“Throughout the last several days, we have met and discussed the history of events that have unfolded over the last several months,” reads the news release. “We mutually agree that rather than going down a path of potential further controversy over the next several weeks and months, it would be better for both the city and Attorney Casale for us to amicably part ways and end on a high note.” ....

GLOVERSVILLE – When one fifth-grade teacher in the Gloversville Enlarged School District saw the scores of third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students on their English Language Arts exams from 2019, she decided she wanted to think more broadly about improving literacy rates and the preparedness of district children.
Those pre-COVID scores showed that proficiency on the exam, which measures reading and writing skills, was reached by 36% of third-graders, 34% of fourth-graders, and 22% of fifth-graders, according to data from the state Department of Education. ....

Housing authority's executive director out | News, Sports, Jobs

GLOVERSVILLE Gloversville Housing Authority Executive Director Amanda Ossenfort is out of that position, effective Thursday.
GHA Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Brenda Leitt on Thursday afternoon verified the departure, but declined to say whether Ossenfort was terminated or simply resigned on her own.
“She is no longer employed,” said Leitt.
She said she had no other details to relate about her departure at this time, including who will be doing the GHA’s day-to-day duties now until a replacement is found. She said she “couldn’t say” who was administering the authority currently.
Leitt did say that the GHA Board of Commissioners will conduct an emergency meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the authority office at Dubois Garden Apartments. She said the meeting will be mostly a closed-door, executive session. ....

GLOVERSVILLE The Common Council on Tuesday authorized entering into a $7,200 agreement with C.T. Male Associates to provide engineering services for the city’s 2021 Streets Resurfacing Program.
The resolution approved at City Hall notes the Latham firm is among engineering firms chosen by the New York State County Highway Superintendents Association through a Local Design Services Agreement Program and a resultant consultant list.
Officials said the street resurfacing program includes milling and resurfacing of selected city streets, and installation of handicapped accessible ramps where necessary on each resurfaced street.
Proposed 2021 streets to be resurfaced are: Market Street from East Fulton Street to Washington Street; Monroe Street from E. Fulton Street to Woodward Avenue; South Kingsboro Avenue (overlay only) from East Fulton Street to Clyde Street; Maple Street from Beaver Street to Addison Street; Bloomingdale Avenue ....
