start this friday morning. snipers opened fire on police officers during peaceful protests over the shootings of two black men. 11 injured, 5 officers dead. here in the bay area, oakland police faced off with protestors throughout the night after they caused destruction and shutdown of freeway. we ll get to that in a moment. first authorities in texas have ended the standoff with a suspect connected to the fatal shootings there. officials say two snipers positioned themselves above crowds gathered yesterday to carry out the attack. don champion has the story reporter: dallas police say officers were ambushed thursday night when snipers opened fire on police during a protest downtown. course, cbs s don champion is live in dallas with what we know at this point this morning. don. reporter: good morning. people here in dallas are waking up to a city that s essentially on lockdown. as you can see behind me, several parts of downtown are now considered crime scenes as authorities try piecing together what they call a coordinated attack on police officers. reporter: dallas police say officers were ambushed thursday night when snipers opened fire on police during a protest downtown.
