A first step being the key to all of this right here, the San Francisco board of supervisors voted unanimously to apologize to black residents of the city of San Francisco for decades of discriminatory policies and systemic discrimination that amount to antiblack racism, an important first step with a complicated and long road ahead. We have much more work to do, but this apology most certainly is an important step, and one of the over 100 recommendations made by the African American reparations and advisory committee. The resolution is adopted unanimous. With that move, San Francisco joins a short list of major u. S. Cities and states that have taken the first steps to repair its black residents is a long overdue apology. We know that an apology without action rings hollow. Tensions at berkeley as the university reacts after heated protest shut down any event featuring a jewish speaker. We have video from last night that showed how tense the confrontation was. Police try to keep the protesters out of the building. Jewish students invited the guest to discuss the israel hamas war. The speaker was going to talk the impact the war was having on civilians. 200 protesters surrounded the building and broke inside. The protesters accused the speaker of spreading propaganda for the israeli government. The event was canceled and the speaker was evacuated with the attendees. The universitys leadership condemned the protest saying we cannot allow the use of the threat or force to violate the First Amendment rights of a speaker, no matter how much we might disagree with their views. Crews in antioch are responding to two brushfires, one of them thats burned about 20 acres of open space off slatten ranch road near the antioch b. A. R. T. Station, another a couple miles to the west near the marina. Its burned about five acres. We just spoke to con fire and they said its a little windy out there. Lets take a closer look where these fires are burning. So far it is just vegetation, no homes or buildings threatened and no word of any impact to b. A. R. T. , but were keeping an eye on this. Lets get straight to meteorologist darren peck with more on the wind conditions in that area. Thats a notoriously tricky part of the bay for wind.
