all charges! one of the men responsible for the shooting death of 5-year-old laylah petersen is heading to prison! it only took the jury three hours to come back with its guilty verdict. tonight--- a family member of the victim says she hopes he never gets out. our ben handelman is in the newsroom. found guilty of firing a gun into the home where petersen was sitting on her grandfather's lap. two other men have already pleaded guilty to their roles in the crime. an aunt says today's decision--- means justice for the little girl. if she was still alive today--- laylah petersen would have turned 7 last week. i look at her everyday and give her a kiss every day. and i know she is watching over us. instead--- her aunt kathy petersen is left with pictures have the strength. life doesnt stop. petersen was sitting on her grandfather's lap in 2014, when bullets came piercing through the wall. the family waited nearly a year for arrests. and nearly another year for this day. it feels like a weight is lifted. but at the same time it is still very heavy in your heart. in court--- a jury convicting carl barrett jr. of all four charges against him. how many people actually touched ta got through? the defense, unsuccessfully argued the state never proved barrett was there. youre going to come to the conclusion that the state has proven that carl barrett was involved in this. two other men, arlis gordon and paul farr have already pleaded guilty to their charges. investigators say the three were looking to kill a man acquitted for killing gordon's brother. gordon and violence leads absolutely nowhere. the conviction ends what at one time was milwaukee's highest profile murder mystery. justice for a family, left with one very big void in their lives. we remember her everyday. and by remembering her she is still alive in our hearts. investigators say barrett and gordon both fired their weapons into the petersen house. the jury did not have to decide which men's bullet ending charged with reckless homicide party to a crime. the jury had to simply decide if barrett was involved--- which they did. sentencing is set for december. live in the newsroom, ben handelman fox 6 -- and honored her memory with a peace garden. two teen girls are recovering pit bulls. both dogs were shot by a police officer. one has died. fox 6's ashley sears is live at the brown deer police department with the latest. authorities say the dogs lived in the same home as one of the victims. police are investigating what happened. first responders surround a home-- at 48th and west dean road in brown away on stretchers-- police investigate what happened in the front yard. just before 4:30 in the afternoon-- police say two pit bulls attacked two 14-year old girls-- the dogs lived in the home with one of the girls. 35:53 i feel sorry for them. cheryl christensen lives near by and says she has seen at least one of the dogs before. 34:25 i was walking down 48th street here and then all of a sudden, a dog ran out of a vehicle. she says as she walked her dogs of the pit bulls lunged toward them. 34:30 like a mother, i screamed because im worried about these girls getting hurt. the dog eventually ran away-- 35:07 im just so glad the guy was there and called them back. but thursday-- the girls at this home were not as lucky. police say when they arrived-- an officer shot one dog-- to protect the 14-year- old girls. that's when they say the other pit bull tried to attack and that dog was shot. one dog died-- the other was turned animal control. the dog owner requested it be euthanized. the girls suffered serious injuries. they were treated on the scene and taken to local hospitals. live at the brown deer police department, ashley sears fox 6 news. ted thanks ash new at nine -- a long time educator -- busted on child porn charges. prosecutors say 68-year-old kenosha's "all saints academy." the principal prompted the investigation -- saying de-fazio had "liked" some questionable pictures of young girls on facebook. he was let go -- and when police searched his laptop-- they allegedly found nearly a dozen inappropriate images. de-fazio told police -- he didn't think the images "crossed the line." ... and that he usually uses his laptop to read stories on fox-six now dot com -- or to play games. he previously worked for several decades in racine county. accident on the city's northwest side. the 2-year-old boy got caught between a bunk bed and the wall. it happened last weekend at a home near 101st and jonen-- just north of mill road. the boy was taken to children's hospital where he died--we learned tonight--on sunday. two confirmed cases of crypto-spora-di- osis in waukesha county. and tonight we've been told the patients recently swam at the princeton club in new berlin. cooperating-- and working to take preventative action. crypto can cause diarrhea and it can be spread through water, including pools. so far, health officials say the fox6 bret lemoine is live outside the milwaukee county courthouse with that story. we first told you about the proposed wheel tax in july... now its one step closer to reality. milwaukee county motorists could soon be paying more to hit the ro registration fee. which averages out to $5 per month.' county executive chris abele is making good on his promise to include a so- called 'wheel tax' in his 2017 budget proposal. ca 'for the past five years, we have not raised fairs. we havent cut routes.' -- and in order to maintain that for public transportation, abele says the county is left with no choice. he says its the only legal option: ca 'the only tool we have to address it is a vehicle on state funds to help... and this option will generate 27-million dollars a year for milwaukee county. he says its enough to fund all the countys transportation infrastructure costs, annual bus replacements, county highway and bridge repairs. it will also help preserve the 'go pass' program, allowing seniors and the disabled to ride the bus for free - or at a significantly reduced cost. p 'we just have to keep transit going. there are a lot of people who are depending on it.' but county supervisor michael mayo says... not everybody is eager i know that we need revenue, i want transportation to keep going, but that is really a lot.' mayo, who is also the chairman of the transportation committee, does not support the wheel tax. he says its going to be a tough sell to the county board. mayo says the board has yet to see the proposal. mm 'youre hitting the residents of milwaukee double! on a wheel tax!' all motor vehicle owners pay a 75- dollar state vehicle registration. city of milwaukee residents currently pay a 20- dollar wheel tax of factor in this proposed 60-dollar fee... folks in the city will pay 155-dollars a year just to operate their cars. mm 'come on chris, work with the board - no more taxes on wheels!' the budget proposal will be published online mutual confirmed - 100 jobs will be eliminated this year. officials say insurance companies like northwestern mutual rely on two sources of income. one is based on interest rates -- and while the current low investment rates we're seeing are good for the consumer.. it's a struggle in the industry. northwestern mutual is the 9th largest employer in the area with almost 6-thousand employees in downtown milwaukee and statement that reads in part - '...weve been evaluating how we work to better serve our clients. while we will continue to focus on hiring people with the skills we need and developing our teams, some positions will be impacted and these decisions have not been easy.' in addition to the 100 jobs cut this year - the statement says hundreds more will be eliminated next year... but no specific number was given. members of milwaukee's common council are fed up. they say prostitution has become rampant in parts of the with city officials to do something to stop it. fox 6's rachelle baillon explains. plenty of people don't like what they're seeing on the streets of the city's near south side. "i have never seen it as bad as it is now. blatant, blatant. and whatever is going on is simply not working." neighbors , religious leaders, community organizations and law national, greenfield and lincoln avenues are at the heart of a prostitution problem. they showed up at thursday's public safety committee meeting to share their observations with members of the common council. "one of my daily duties in the morning that i make it on myself is to go around and make sure that i don't find no needles around the school, used condoms." those in the neighborhood insist the prostitution is as visible as ever. "my boys, even as young boys have been solicited." stem from two other serious issues: drug addiction and human trafficking. "these women were being treated like animals and she was forced to go out and sell her body and she was manipulated with drugs." the multi-pronged problem could require a complex solution. which is what committee members are hoping a dialogue will help them to find. "....how serious this matter is and how it has totally deteriorated the quality of life." until the problem is solved.... with alderman bob donovan saying they'll discuss it every month, if needed. rachelle ballion fox 6 news. ...an 18-year-old campbells-port man - arrested for allegedly stealing mail. washington county officials say the suspect stole from mailboxes in farmington-- barton-- and west bend. a victim alerted police when he says, he saw the man take his cable bill from his mailbox. we're told the suspect had stolen mail on him when he was arrested. the sheriffs office says there could be a man is in custody after an attempted burglary at otto's wine cask in brown deer last night. officers say a 22-year-old man tried to punch through the glass-- and had a deep cut on his arm. they say he admitted to the burglary and said he broke into the same store last week. both incidents are being investigated. there's new focus on a decade's old program that works to decrease the infant mortality rate. city officials unveiled their word about home- visits for families caring for newborns. but fox6's madeline anderson tell us there are also challenges ahead for the home visit program. each year... the milwaukee health department's home visiting programs help 400 families as they navigate the challenges of parenthood in the first year of life. we do child developmental and health screenings right in the home. heather puente oversees many of the meet with these families. she says the mothers are often living in poverty or don't speak english... and therefore at higher risk of giving birth to premature babies-- the main cause of infant mortality. environment is a huge factor of that. what weve seen is weve seen more progress in reducing the infant mortality rate in the white populations and the hispanic populations. we havent seen as great a reduction in the african american rate.despite the current need in the community... 400-thousand- dollar cut in funding for the upcoming year. its really unfortunate.the free home visits are supported by a grant from the department of children and families. the money comes from the federal government... which awarded wisconsin 20-percent less this year. a dcf spokesman says plus... staff didn't meet their 5-year goal. quote 'milwaukee health department was contracted to serve 1650 families but only served 1193 families." less babies getting important care. we know that the earlier were involved in that 0-3 time of a childs life, that theyre more likely to be set up to have a successful future. reporting in milwaukee... madeline anderson fox6 news. new tonight - and just one month removed from its deadliest month in 25 years. and its the height of political hypocrisy to put all of this on this mayor, that mayor, or the other, and by extension, their ratepayers while everyone else says not my problem. but you know damn well if theres a tornado in i-dont-know-where county, taxes is gonna go out there and no ones gonna blink an eyelash. flynn specifically continues his call for a state law mandating harsher sentences for repeat misdemeanor offenders caught illegally carrying a gun. as for another issue getting lots of attention... flynn says police will not release body camera footage of the sylville smith shooting because it'd be against the wishes of the attorney general and the d-a. im not gonna try to pull the rug out from underneath them. the chief goes on to say body cameras are not the ultim youre going to see on that tape is frequently going to be ambiguous, difficult to interpret, not from everybodys perspective, and you know what? sometimes the cameras gonna be pointed that way and sometimes it got turned on late. these things - 'it's a reminder of the season that we're about to go into and getting ourselves ready and prepared to take on of transportation is hosting its 10th annual roadeo - thats road-eo - on thursday and friday. instead of a bull or bronco, these guys try to wrangle thousands of pounds of plow truck around an intricate course. 'this is to simulate the side of a road here, going around a mailbox.' 'you get nervous out there. you know that there's prizes and things you can win, s prizes, and bragging rights. the drivers are from both the highway and airport maintenance teams, and there is a trophy up for grabs between those two friendly, but rival, groups. 'that always makes it a little more fun. guys are razzing each other a little bit to see who does better.' 'i believe highway has it now and it's ours to retake this year.' and while the dot roadeo is mainly for the plow drivers, officials say the rest of us can get a quick refresher as well before the first snow falls. "our pursuit is always to be the best sporting experience in all these suites help us achieve that goal." at least thats the motto for lambeau field's new suites and club seating on the west side of the stadium. construction on the east side suites hasn't started. "we're all about enhancing the guest experience and improving it any way we can." the suites have new signage on the doors, a heater, two h-d tvs, and a smart tv. "this suite holds 20 individuals max, our suites vary in size from a 12 person on up to a 48 person." "the one big concern with the here you're going to feel the crowd, you're going to feel the noise." the new suites offer retractable windows, which allow fans to enjoy the lambeau experience. according to the packers, the new suites open up other opportunities for the stadium.
