will get to the bay bridge toll plaza. 20 minutes or so before you make it on to the span. no major problems on to the bridge. we had some very slow traffic on the east bay on 880 south because of earlier accident. the fact is -- not this community but the slowest commute has been 680 southbound. we had an earlier accident at 84. it's on the shoulder but the traffic has been a mess coming out of sonohe. if this is your commute, you need extra time. >> we continue to follow developing news about the death of a political activist. the mother of the late tupac shakur in marin county. ateen ya davis shakur -- afenna davis shakur died last night. that family friend was stunned to learn about her death. here is died late last night in sausalito. this is a woman who did so much work in the community. her home is one of the house boats here at the very end of this pier where we are this morning in sausalito. this is where the marin county sheriff department responded late last night and it appears as though she suffered a heart afact here at her no, ma'am. the sheriff office responded last night about report of a possible cardiac arrest. she was transported to the hospital where she later died at about 10:30 last night. she was known in the community, a member of the black panther, a philanthropist as well. i talked to family friend. >> it's sad day. she did a lot of work to clean tupac's name up and preserve his legacy. that was really important to her that, you know, people got to see the good side of the work that he was trying to do and, of course, that song "dear while advising kurdish troops. he was killed by isis forces advancing into the kurdish troops' front line. two brothers accused of killing their parents are reportedly giving conflicting statements to police. they are being charged as adults in the fatal shooting of their parent inside the family home on april 23rd. the older brother reportedly claimed a stranger assaulted them at the home and then ordered him to kill his father. he says he did not see how his mother died. the younger brother, omar, reportedly told investigators his brother is responsible for both killings and never mentioned any mysterious intruder. time is 7:06. two former san francisco police officers implicated in that latest texting scandal are due in court today. jason li is due to be arraigned at 9:00, facing six misdemeanor counts relating to using or improperly implay -- improperly accessing didn't database. police were investigating a rape allegation against him and they accessed the texts. the department says that the first mandatory crisis intervention training is set for september. about 350 of the more than 900 officers already had the training. but the department says that the number of people in crisis is growing as well as the risk to those individuals and to officers. they want to make sure that officers have the tools and understanding they need to deescalate possibly crisis situations. >> today, the san francisco board of directors of supervisors will propose a payout from oceana airline that will settle the claim from an accident in sfo. oceana crashed into the runway. dennis herrera calls the proposed settlement the final chapter in a sad tragedy and a judge is expected to rule soon in heartbreaking case. they will see if the couple can keep their son who the doctors claimed way to the democratic national convention in july. this morning, in san francisco, election workers will start testing the voting machines that are going to be used in the california june 7th primary. california law requires voting machines have to be tested before each election to make sure that themachines correctly record every vote. members of the public -- you -- you are welcome to watch the soon to fix nearly 3500 potholes. besides making the ride rough, potholes can cause a lot of very expensive auto repairs and crashes. if you are distracted while interacting with your children, researchers say that can negatively affect little ones. the problem with smart phones and tablets everywhere. one university of indiana researcher used head gear while researching. the more the parent station in the mission district in san francisco. this is where the group known as the frisco 5 is on day 13 of a hunger strike. the five protesters plan to march to city hall today. they have only been surviving on liquid. this comes one day after mayor ed lee tried to sit down with the group and was turned away. he actually spoke with one of the protesters a few minutes ago. he will explain they see a stalled vehicle, some sort of a stall. you can see traffic is going to be just backed up as it normally is coming up on to the bay bridge toll plaza. i also want to mention that traffic is going to be okay in san francisco. no major problems recording here on 101 or 280 or interstate 80. the east bank commute is filled in. part of bay point or most of bay point. concord, 680 slow from concord into alamo. we have slow traffic as well on 880. this has been a tough commute from the very get go. most of it is slow. this commute is finally recovering. we had an earlier crash on the sunol grade. finally getting a little better. westbound 580 is not too bad. livermore to pleasanton. 7:32. let's go back to the desk. >> hunger strikers in san francisco protesting right now outside of the police station. they have not eaten in 13 days now and still want police chief greg suhr to resign. ktvu's brian flores is live. you are in front of the mission police station. tell us what the hunger strikers plan to do today. >> hi, dave. good morning. feels like it's coming to a boiling point where the hunger strikers known as the frisco 5 and others who are here with them in solidarity. they are demanding that police chief greg suhr steps down. they are planning to march to city hall and hope to have an impromptu meaning with mayor lee. mayor lee reportedly came and visited the protesters here today at the mission police station off 17th. some say that was an impromptu meeting. he wanted to meet inside the police station with members of the group. however, the members of the group didn't want to meet with the mayor. they wanted to meet on their terms, not his and the meeting was set up so that members of the public would not know what was going on. we spoke to one of the members of the group five. see says that the unannounced visit by the mayor was disrespectful. >> that was sneaky. he knew that he we were preparing to talk to him. we want to go talk to him. >> the mission wants more reforms. hunger strikers are surviving on water, coconut water and chicken broth. the group plans to march about 12:30 to city hall, planning on being there roughly at about 2:00 and hopefully they'll have a meeting face to face with mayor lee. >> brian flores in san francisco, thanks. 7:34. former 49ers and raider dana stubblefield is accused of rape and his attorneys are fighting back this among. his attorneys say that they want to release proof that they say will prove his innocence. janine de la vega has more. >> neighbors say they are surprised. they saw a moving van recently. i checked on the realtor website. the house behind me, stubblefield's house, was sold. now, dana stubblefield is charged with raping a developmentally disabled woman. the prosecutors said he contacted a 31-year-old babysitter on a website. he wanted to pay her for her time. the rape happened when she returned to the house, authorities say. the woman immediately went to police to report it. stubblefield denies the charges and claims that the sex was consentual. his attorney released a statement saying that mr. stubblefield passed a lie detector test with flying colors and will present a full, vigorous defense against these false allegations. tmz ills reporting that authorities want stubblefield to submit to an a.i.d.s. test. no word on whether that will happen. stubblefield played for the 49ers and also the raiders. his attorneys will hold a news conference this morning to reveal more details, that stubblefield is innocent. it's unknown if he will be at the news conference. we will be there and bring that to you. >> we'll have it on the nine and then on the news. thank you. miss have identified a man for a deadly shooting inside a convenience store in antioch. he is facing charges of murder and attempted murder. he was arrested shortly after yesterday's morning shoot can which we brought you here as breaking news. it happened at a quick stop market. williams got into a heated argument with his former girlfriend outside the store and followed her inside. he pulled out a gun and shot her. the store clerk was wounded when he tried to intervene. >> >> he tried to help the woman. the woman was shot by her partner and he was shot during that chaos. >> the store clerk was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive. alamo square, a popular san francisco park, will be closing for the rest of the year. alamo square attracts a lot of people who live nearby as well as all the sight seers. the park will be renovated, including getting a wheelchair accessible bathroom, new irrigation systems and water saving landscaping. it is expected to save more than 3 million gallons of water a year. a fence will be included here about 9:30 last night and shakur davis was found unresponsive inside her home. ultimately, she was transported to a nearby hospital where she died later. shakur davis was known as a political activist, a member of the black panther and a known philanthropist. a family friend, hi a chance to catch up with someone who had known her for many years in in pla written county. she lived here in sausalito for a long time. she was in a good place. she enjoyed the house boat. she could have lived up in a house somewhere but she enjoyed being here around the water and just theserenity of when board of elections computer room inside city hall. since this your election, the process is open to the public. to make sure that anyone who wants to verify that the machines are working probably can behind me here, has been sold. we tonight know if he did that because of this case. prosecutors allege that he had sexually assaulted a 31-year- old woman. prosecutors say that dna evidence taken from her matched stubblefield's. his attorneys say that the sex was consentual and stubblefield is being targeted by the woman for his wealth and celebrity. his attorney said that, quote, mr. stubblefield passed a lie detector test with flying colors and will present a vigorous defense against these false allegations. >> it's unknown if stubblefield will be at the pressconference. if convicted, he could face a substantial prison sentence. reporting from more gab hill, ktvu's janine janine de la vega. two former san francisco police officers implicated in that texting scandal are due in court today. jason lie is scheduled to be arraigned at 9:00 just about 20 minutes from now. he faces six misdemeanor counts related to misusing or improperly using police and dmv records. they say they uncovered racist and homophobic text messages that he sent to other officers as they were investigating a sexual assault against him. and former officer lou is accused of telling lie about the rape investigation against him. and all san jose police officers have to go through new training to deal with people who may be suffering from mental illness. the first mandatory crisis intervention training is set for september. about 350 of the more than 900 officers have already had the training. the department says that the number of people in crisis is growing as well as the risk to those individuals and to the police. they want to make sure that officers have the tools and understanding they need to deal with possible crisis situations. our time is 8:30. this is the 13th day of that protest in san francisco. a hunger strike outside of a police station. hunger strikers want the police chief, greg suhr to resign or be fired. >> brian flores is now live in front of that police station where the hunger strike is occurring. brian, the protesters say that the visit by the mayor is not good enough. >> reporter: certainly feels, guys, it is coming to a boiling point where the group known as the frisco five and those in solidarity plan to do a march to city hall and hopefully have an impromptu meeting with mayor lee. we talked about a visit by mayor lee yesterday. he visited the protesters here off 17th a and valens ya. i spoke to the mayor's office about 45 minutes ago and the spokesperson said that the group all along had wanted to meet with the mayor about their concerns. the mayor came here to the police station and was inside the station for about 30 minutes. the spokesperson said that a room was set up to speak with members of the protesting group but the group refused saying that they wanted to meet with the mayor on their terms, not his. some protesters told me they wanted to meet outside in the public so it was more transparent. the mayor's office said that they wanted to have a thoughtful and meaningful dialogue with the group and the offer was there to make it happen. we spoke with a member of the group who says that the mayor's visit was even disrespectful. >> i even told him yesterday, you know, i say, i cannot listen to you. we want to come and talk to you. we want to pray with you. that's what we want to do. we want to pray with him so maybe god can get into his heart and he realizes what the right decision is at this moment, what he has to do. >> i would not say that he was here >> reporter: how would you characterize it? >> i would say he came here as a move for a bad p r campaign. i mean, i think it's incredibly insulting that he posed with five empty chairs. i mean, we should have taken a picture with the empty front of this building. >> reporter: the protesters want more reforms after recent high profile police shootings that led to the deaths of five people. the mayor says that reforms are on the fast track or already underway. the strikers are sawyer vying on coconut -- surviving on coconut water, water and chicken broth. the marchers will march to city hall. i asked a mayor staffer if the mayor will meet with them. the mayor's office said that he had offered to talk to them yesterday. >> the march they are planning is more than ten miles. 13 days with no solid food, do they think they can go all that way? >> well, you know, when i talked to members of the frisco 5, at least to one of the mounding members, she looked pretty weak. they said they are planning some way to transport many of the protesters to city hall this morning. we had heard an earlier report that happens wheelchairs would be used. they would not disclose what they are doing to us but we'll see what happens at 12:30 this afternoon the east bay police identified a man arrested in a shooting. he is identified as thomas john williams of oakland. the shooting happened at a quick stop market. williams got into a heated argument with his former girlfriend outside the store and followed her inside. then pulled out a gun and shot and killed her. a store clerk was wounded when he tried to interconvenient. intervene. the woman was shot by her partner and he was shot between that chaos. >> the sore clerk was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive. time is 8:40. we now have new information about an americaserviceman killed by isis in northern irrake. he was a u.s. navy seal and was an expert in warfare. defense secretary ash carter called it a combat death. it happened near the city of irbil. the military says that he was advising kurdish troops at the time that he was killed. >> here is a photo. an mazing rescue after a deadly building collapse in kenya. rescue workers pulled a one- year-old baby out of the rubble of that building. the red cross says that the little girl was severely dehydrated but she is expected to survive. she spent more than 72 hours trapped in that rubble. at least 21 people died when that building in nairobi collapsed in heavy rain. three suspects were arrested in the death of a back packer. william angold agreed to plead guilty and testify against 23- year-old more san lampley and 23-year-old lyle ya allgood. this week, several san francisco supervisors are scheduled to take autopsy proposal that would open up more centers to helped city's homeless many the city already runs one navigation center on mission street and another near the civic center is in the works. the centers are designed to provide temporaryhousing and help the homeless with counseling services. a budget analyst says that opening the new center would cost $20 million in the next year. a committee are discuss the plan and a meeting on friday. authorities arrested three men accused of 23 robberies of restaurants and bars in the east bay and san francisco. ktvu exclusively obtained this video from berkeley police of one suspect rummaging through a restaurant and apparently ordering an employee to empty his pockets. a second suspect can also be seen in that surveillance video. investigators have tied the man to nine robberies in berkeley and four more from san san leandro. a waitress says that a man walked with with his face covered by a hood. >> he came in and say, come here, come here. hi to come. i opened the register and he took the money. >> local authorities reached out to the fbi. they have put together a task force. the suspects were caught after they reportedly tried to rob a san francisco bar for the third time. the suspects identified as 18- year-old christopher jones of al gappy, 40-year-old shawwan spraggas and 46-year-old meryl simpson both of oakland. a student brought a loaded gun to class. according to the news website, berkeley site, a boy brought the gun to the school. the boy told police that he and a cousin found the gun near the school. as a precaution, they checked his home and found that he was well taken care of. lieutenant governor newsom and the attorney general may be on a collision course. lawmakers say they are planning to address tighter gun control measures through legislation and newsom's referendum could be hurting what they are doing. they call newsom's move as political and self-serving and he says that the most effective way to combat gun violence is through working with police, the public and lawmakers. governor newsom says that his bill would save lives. and four more names were added to the memorial for police officers killed in the line of duty. two bay area officers were among those being honored. michael johnson shot and killed when he responded to a call about a suicidal man and hayward police sergeant scott lunger who was shot and killed during a traffic stop at 8:45, happening today, san jose city officials are due to consider a plan that would pay people to report gravity vandals and the -- graffiti vandals and dumping. the mayor, vice mayor
