>> reporter: now, later today, the santa clara water district does plan to hold a special meeting at 1 p.m. to discuss the disaster. live in san jose, maria medina, kpix 5. >> how much water is anderson reservoir holding right now? >> reporter: it's only supposed to hold 68% capacity. it's supposed to be at 68% capacity because studies show that if there is a major earthquake, the reservoir would fail and cause parts of san jose and morgan hill to flood. well, right now, it is 13 feet below the spillway and it is at 83% capacity. but the water district says it continues to release water. back to you. >> thank you. time now 6:01. let's check traffic with roqui. >> the roads are not too bad now. let's head out to the bay area roads right now starting with the golden gate bridge. quick bridge check first. from marin county into san francisco, you are looking good. easy drive there. and not so easy at the bay bridge toll plaza. those metering lights are on slowing you down expect 20 minutes between the maze and downtown san francisco. and if you are traveling into the peninsula, here's a live look at the san mateo bridge from hayward to foster city. that's about a 15-minute drive. let's move now to some slow traffic starting on westbound 4 if you are heading through antioch, pittsburg and concord, 40 miles per hour down to 242 where it's clear. not clear on the altamont pass. at 13 miles per hour coming off 205 very slow conditions there up to 30 at north flynn road. but also slow if you head into the south bay. that is only on that 280/680 interchange on 101. i would give it one more trial. we are going live to sfo this morning and i was talking to the air traffic controllers there and i said, hey, if you watch "kpix 5 morning news" you love yourself some kenny, michelle and roqui, give me a sign maybe like a glowing x on the runway or something like that. [ laughter ] >> hey, give 'em a round of applause there at sfo this morning! there are no delays there because of clear sky, unlimited visibility. a little west at 13 in oakland right now where the air temperature is at 54 degrees right now. this is a weak disturbance to the north of the bay area impacting our weather -- well, today as far as our beaches are concerned. we have that beach hazard statement that has been extended until tomorrow night all the way into monterey bay with rip currents and also sneaker waves. a lot of people going to the beaches today with the sunshine into the 60s even flirting with 70 in ocean beach. 70s will be common across the peninsula today backing into almost 80 in san jose. it will be 80 in saratoga also 80 degrees in danville to the east. pleasanton 81 all the way into discovery bay, brentwood, tracy, 77 fairfield. north bay numbers 67 stinson beach through 70s in mill valley. mid-70s in sonoma. the full forecast is still coming up at 18 minutes after the hour. tase on capitol hill senate lawmakers will hold a joint news conference to update the public on its committee's investigation into russian meddling in the 2016 election. this comes as the house intelligence committee's probe continues to come under scrutiny. former attorney sally yates who was fired by president trump was set to testify yesterday before the house panel on the investigation. in a letter her attorney was warned by the trump justice department last week that there was a limit to what she could say in her testimony. >> no problem with her testifying. to suggest in any way, shape or form that we stood in the way of that is 100% false. >> the controversy along with republican committee chair devin nunes' secret meeting at the white house last week is adding to democrats claim that nunes cannot lead an impartial investigation. >> i like chairman nunes and worked well with him in the past but for the independence and credibility of this investigation, he should recuse himself and that's now a bipartisan call. one republican is also calling for that. >> that's north carolina representative walter jones. he is calling for an independent commission to probe russian interference in the u.s. election. what was intended to be a conversation about current immigration issues turned into a heated outburst. kpix 5's jackie ward is here. >> reporter: a lot of people showed up for this meeting and there was a lot of passion at last night's forum as some there welcomed the trump administration's stance on immigration while others were screaming against it. [ screaming ] >> reporter: the sacramento county sheriff scott jones took heat from the attention of labor organizations and other organizations after he hosted acting immigrations and customs enforcement director thomas homan to have a civil conversation about immigration enforcement federally and locally but hundreds say the invite was far from civil. >> it's ridiculous that this is a community forum that doesn't include half of the community. >> if you were here illegally, you're a criminal!! >> reporter: at several points during the town hall protestors interrupted and were ejected. this is the first time they traveled to local law enforcement. today house minority leader nancy pelosi and other members of congress will be talking about immigration policy on what they claim is the harm placed on children when separated from a parent. >> how can the public listen in on this meeting? >> it will be streamed online. 11 a.m. today a federal judge in hawaii will hear arguments on whether to extend his temporary block on president trump's revised travel ban. even if he doesn't put the ban on hold until the state's lawsuit is resolved, the temporary block would remain until he rules otherwise. the order would temporarily ban travel to the u.s. from six muslim countries. courts in maryland also blocked it earlier this month. the trump administration is asking for an appeal. the cost of your monthly gas bill could soon drop now that pg&e is paying millions over its deadly 2010 pipeline explosion. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is live in san bruno on what's driving the change and how the company is working to make amends. >> reporter: that drop in the bill is only about a quarter of a month so it is little consolation for the people living here. brand-new houses mixed with construction. so this place is really been through a lot. that's when a gas main blew up underground here in the crestmoor neighborhood killing 8 people. in the 6.5 years since, this has been blamed on sloppy recordkeeping on the part of pg&e and back channel deals. the utility's mistakes also affected gas pipeline operations in san carlos so it's agreed to an $86.5 million settlement foregoing more than $60 million in revenue for its gas transmission system during 2018 and2019 so the gas bill may drop 22 cents a month. >> on september 9, 2010, pg&e learned a tragic lesson we can never forget. >> reporter: you may have heard these commercials pg&e has been running in other parts of the company's mea culpa forced to run this admission of what happened for three months. >> so san bruno has heard a lot of apologies from pg&e over 6.5 years and i -- i think i can say that this one actually does begin to ring a little more true. we hope that this is the really truly the beginning of the transformation that needs to happen. >> reporter: pg&e was convicted of six criminal charges by a federal judge coming before and after the san bruno explosion. the settlement needs to be approved by the state public utilities commission. live in san bruno, anne makovec, kpix 5. right now, pittsburg police are searching for a gunman after a woman was shot in the back. it happened around 6:40 last night on west street near cutter street. police say the woman was with another person when they were confronted by the suspect who then shot at them. anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police. time 6:09. a twister touchdown down in texas. a look at the damage left behind. and this as we learn new details about the deaths of three storm chasers. >> hm. that's incredible. 6:10 in the weather center. good morning, everybody. boy, today's going to be the warmest day of the workweek topping off in the low 80s away from the bay. but, we're also tracking rain. >> all right. how's it looking in the south bay? [ laughter ] >> the more you know. what do we know on the roads? >> yeah. so the roads are not looking bad right now. we have a problem with mass transit so let's just start first here with the bay bridge toll plaza. that's about 15 minutes between the maze and downtown san francisco and if you are traveling into the peninsula expect a 20-minute drive between hayward and foster city. 14 miles per hour up to 31 at north flynn road. muni downed wires at third and marin street so the shuttle buses will service the t-3rd line so expect that. caltrain is on time. this morning, new video shows a tornado tearing through texas. the national weather service described the tornado in jones county as large dangerous and violent. three storm chasers in dickens counties were killed when their vehicles collided. a confirmed twister was reported in the area at the same time. 70-mile-per-hour wind gusts and half dollar-sized hail during the storm. this video posted to twitter shows what it was like in lubbock, texas. hail covered the ground looking like snow. trees, cars and home roofs were also damaged. in the bay area it's a much different story this week with a break from the rain. roberta is in the weather center tracking how long it will last. >> texas and oklahoma had just trace amounts of snow so when you say hail is like snow, that's spot on. this is the scene looking at sfo at 6:16. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. very mild around the bay. darryl yee is reporting from alameda one of our weather watchers says it's 50 degrees. a little bit of a crescent moon out there. waxing crescent moon. wind speeds will be calm except in the oakland area. now those winds have dialed down and we do west-northwest winds in san francisco 10 sfo 14 these winds will be common late today northwest 10 to 20 miles per hour. we do have this weak disturbance to the north of us. we are seeing some rain developing now right off the northwest quadrant of the state of california. that disturbance is churning up the local waters. we have a beach hazard statement that's extended now through tomorrow evening for those sneaker waves and rip currents. a lot of people will be at the beaches because today in ocean beach 70 degrees! [ laughter ] >> fox news host bill o'reilly starting a social media firestorm after his comments about california representative maxine waters. plus this. >> we have to fix the communication problem. >> san jose's mayor firing back after a scathing attack on the city of san jose about last month's floods. >> but first, your electric bill could soon drop thanks to a multi-million dollar settlement over the deadly pg&e explosion. good morning, it's wednesday, march 29. i'm kenny choi. >> i'm michelle griego. time now is 6:29. kpix 5's reporter anne makovec is live in san bruno with the latest. this neighborhood looks so different from when the explosion happened. new houses here and construction on the other side of the road continuing after this neighborhood was destroyed in september 2010. that's when a gas main blew up underground killing eight and destroying 36 homes. in the 6.5 years since, that explosion has been blamed on pg&e's sloppy recordkeeping and back channel deals with the state agency in charge regulating it. the utility's mistakes also affected gas pipeline operations in san carlos. now, in january, pg&e became a convicted felon when a federal judge threw the book at them for 6 criminal charges coming from before and after the san bruno pipeline explosion. >> on september 9, 2010, pg&e reverend a tragic lesson we can never forget. >> reporter: you probably heard these commercials pg&e has been running for weeks now with this new $86.5 million settlement, more penance for the company as agreeing to forego collection of more than $60 million in revenue for its gas transmission and storage system during2018 and 2019. so the monthly gas bill for the residential customers in california could drop by about 22 cents a month. the settlement deal still needs to go through the state public utilities commission. live in san bruno, anne makevoc, kpix 5. happening today, a brewing battle. the santa clara water district claims that the city of san jose failed to act during last month's devastating floods. kpix 5's maria medina is live in san jose with more. >> reporter: more than 4 weeks after the flood, you can see people are still out of their homes. and in the process of rebuilding. as you said, now a public battle is brewing. the santa clara water district claims san jose city leaders had enough information but still failed to warn victims. now, last month 14,000 people were forced to evacuate causing more than $70 million in damage from the floods. the water district stays continued to give the city information about the rising water and it was up to the city to warn residents. hundreds did not know what was going on until the water reached their doors and were rescued then by boats. >> that decision to get out there and knock on doors and let people know, there's very likely a flood coming, should have been made on sunday, well before. >> reporter: and many had their homes destroyed and lost all. many had no insurance. some say it will be months before they are back in their homes. late today, at 1:00 p.m., the santa clara water district will hold a special immediating to talk about the disaster. live in san jose, maria medina, kpix 5. time check 6:32. >> i have a treat for you. >> yay, i love treats. >> i know you do. >> the x? >> from sfo, right. i know you're trying to plan another trip to yosemite. you and i have it on our bucket list for this summer. i haven't been there in so long so i have a special little picture for you. >> i wanted to try to convince all of to you go camping with me. >> no. that's not going to happen. spicer and that she will be back. in the newsroom, jackie ward, kpix 5. president trump told senators they are going to make a deal on healthcare. he made the remarks at a white house dinner with senators and their wives last night. this comes less than a week after a gop overhaul was defeated in the house before it came up for a vote. the president told senators healthcare is, quote, such an easy one and it's going to happen very quickly. the house voted to repeal new ftc privacy rules that above prevented internet providers from selling customer information without consent. the president will sign it. house minority leader nancy pelosi is calling on internet providers to oppose the gop bill. in a statement she wrote in part, quote, internet service providers must now stand up and be counted whether they will stand with consumers and oppose the republican bill or announce their eagerness to settle private information of the american people. in oakland, crews say they don't expect to find more victims at a west oakland building where four people died in a fire. the building was still smoldering more than a day after the blaze broke out early monday morning. the fire department is now working with the atf to determine the cause. but we have learned just days before the fire started, the building's owner was warned by inspectors about 11 safety problems at the site. it's why oakland mayor libby schaaf says the city is improving its code enforcement following the ghost ship fire but schaaf says in this case city officials didn't have the authority to shutter the apartments immediately. san francisco police are now looking for a teenaged girl in connection with a pepper spray attack at the mall. a girl between the ages of 15 and 17 walked into stonestown mall on monday night and sprayed a canister with orange mist into the area and fled. we are expecting to hear details on a new lawsuit stemming from problems at san francisco's millennium tower. there's been a lot of finger- pointing after it was discovered that the building is leaning and sinking. the city's investigation into the problem is ongoing. a bay area landlord tried to force his tenants out of their rent controlled apartments and today he will be sentenced up to a year in jail. the 74-year-old man pleaded guilty to vandalizing his tenants's cars at the stanford garden apartments in east palo nice day for corte madera-based restoration hardware. they topped earning expectations for the 4th quarter and is optimistic about the year ahead and as a result, shares in restoration up by double digits today. that's great news for the company. it's struggled over the past year and a half along with san francisco's williams-sonoma due in part to general retail weakness. both have seen stocks head lower but today they are heading higher. williams-sonoma is also getting lift from restoration hardware's good start to the day. stock market coming off the best session of march, big gains system in australia. the category 4 cyclone already brought 185-mile-an-hour winds to the queensland coast area and blamed for a car crash that killed a 31-year-old woman. tens of thousands of people have lost power in the storm system experts say could be queensland's worst in 6 years. these winds have ripped trees out of the ground and shattered windows. at one point, after cyclone debbie
