jodi hernandez kicks off our coverage in oakland. >> there is no shortage of excitement here. oracle arena is abuzz as the warriors prepare to go head to head with the cavaliers. the warriors hit the court for some final tuning up with just a day to go until game one of the nba finals the warriors say they are ready. >> might be more people around a different kind of routine but once we leave after practice today it's the same kind of vibe you do whatever you can to get your mind right. >> the cleveland cavaliers got their first full practice on warriors ground. lebron james wearing some snazzy shoes brought a big personality to practice. he sang a little, even danced a little. he said he's fired up. >> i'm going to command a lot out of my guys and out of myself. hopefully we will be able to come through. >> we are going to stop him. >> reporter: fans say they are not worried about lebron. they are confident the warriors will shut him down. the new team store in san francisco can barely keep finals gear in stock. fans say they can't wait for the finals games to get underway tomorrow. >> the first game will be 1-0, warriors. >> reporter: now, that is a great prediction. now that today's practice is over steph curry told us he planned to spend the rest of the day relaxing. on the agenda a haircut and time laying out by the pool. it will be all business tomorrow. in has a chance to shine. the mayor is getting proactive. mayor says the city is receiving significant boost in revenue with hotels and restaurants overflowing and providing broadcast network and tv crews with video and still pictures of the beauty spots of oakland. she wants to make sure oakland isn't overshadowed by san francisco. >> great images of our majestic cranes, waterfront, beautiful winds didn't help. the fire burned a little over an acre. firefighters across the bay area are bracing for the worst. chief meteorologist has more on the dangerous conditions but we begin with nbc bay area's michelle roberts. dry and grassy. i can see from around you it's a dangerous combo. >> reporter: there is a lot of it. i'm 5'5". in some spots the grass is well above 6 feet tall. this is a problem firefighters didn't have to deal with last season. if you can imagine take a snap at this it's completely dry and can start like that. the stakes are high for on the job training with cal fire. >> at any point in time the winds can shift here and we can be chasing this thing. >> reporter: took the winter off after his rookie summer last year. now he is back to work and aware that the historically dry conditions will be a challenge for even seasoned veterans. >> i think this year will be worse than last year. >> reporter: crews set and put out several fires using backpacks. >> we are trying to conserve water. >> reporter: about 20 gallons knocked down this burn. battalion chief says these can be the difference between watching the fire spread or putting it out when water reserves are low. >> we don't have a water tender to refill it then we have to send it away to find a water source between 30 minutes and an hour. >> reporter: time is critical when crews are dealing with fields of dry grass. at the beginning of fire season there are signs of moisture like this green grass that didn't burn in today's fire. officials say if this practice would have taken place in august this entire field would have gone up in flames. it's a situation corey says crews are trained for. >> we all pretty much know what is coming. it is just a matter of how big it is going to get. just in the last week cal fire has responded to more than 190 fires. just to give you a little perspective so far this year they have responded to more than 400 fires than they did at this time last year. reporting live in east san jose michelle roberts, nbc bay area news. some areas are worse off than others as the sun sets this evening you can still see brown. the hills are in san jose. let's bring in jeff ranieri. >> they are concentrated across the east and south bay in the interior valleys. what i want to show you is the drought map, real time data updated from the drought monitor. what you will be able to see is the bulls eye over california and that is where it is the worst throughout the west especially throughout the sierra nevada where a third of our water comes from. for the bay area specifically you can see the extreme drought and that is where conditions will continue to be the driest especially throughout our dry months of june july and august. our fire forecast keeps winds from 20 to 22 miles per hour. definitely fire danger up there thursday and friday and then decreases by saturday and sunday. what i'm concerned about is next week in the forecast we have humidity levels drop 15 to 25% in that range as inland temperatures range 80 to 88 degrees. some of the highest fire danger in contra costa. we are tracking the full forecast and a little bit of drizzle that could help at least some of our fire danger. i will have more details on that in 15 minutes. >> you can track our weather conditions 24/7 using our free nbc bay area app. you will find the forecast specific to your neighborhood. we have new details on the oil spill near santa barbara. we now know that the 9 mile oil slick leaked from a pipe that worn away to a fraction of an inch. federal investigators say the pipe was about the thickness of a penny when it broke. more than 100,000 gallons of crude oil spilled last month shutting down several beaches. a disturbing report raising concerns for dog owners in the south bay. someone poisoning pets. animal control is testing white powder found along three creek trail in san jose between bird and willow streets. new . >> reporter: they think this is the last thing they would have expected. someone is believed to left a small amount of cat food laced with white powder along three creeks trail. one said her 4-year-old black labrador retriever gobbled up a couple of bites and brought the dog to the pet hospital as a precaution. >> this is the first i have heard of anything happening in this entire neighborhood. it is a very dog friendly dog encouraging area. >> the owner took swift action to provide care for her animal. i think that swift action if it was a harmful substance was key to making sure the dog is okay. >> the white powder will be send to uc daveson school of veterinarian medicine for analysis. san jose's animal care services investigators say only one instance has been reported. an update on a pedestrian that was hit during a high speed chase in san francisco. police tell us the man struck is expected to survive but is facing severe injuries. he was hit by a bmw racing away from police around 10:30 last night. police chased the suspect across the bay bridge but lost him somewhere in emeryville. the car was a blue four door bmw with front end damage. two men are in custody accused of a grisly murder. officers arrested spencer smith and chase benoit. the victim was found stabbed to death in a field early sunday morning. there is no word yet on a motive. >> we believe the suspect and the victim are associated. we don't know if they are friends or how they are associated. we believe it is an isolated incident. we don't believe it was part of a crime spree. >> are they being cooperative? >> they are not being cooperative. >> spencer smith arraigned on murder charges. chase benoit has not been formally charged. a heartbreaking facebook post from cheryl sandberg after the similar stores have been down about maybe 6%. >> tonight usda announced the distributor may have other violations including modifying usda certified meats by further processing them. there are sky high salaries across the silicon valley. an average annual salary of $300,000. business and tech reporter breaks down the numbers from san jose. >> reporter: we have seen some amazing growth in silicon valley not only the leading region in the country when it comes to tech salaries but 60% higher than the second place region of seattle, an amazing mix of innovation and competition that is hard to beat. tech salaries have been on the rise for years now but the new figures from ucla's anderson survey are jaw dropping. san mateo county home of facebook with average salary of $317,000 a year. the average tech worker takes home more than $211,000 per year. in san francisco county home to twitter, the average is $157,000 answering the question why do so many companies and techies want to come here. >> the tremendous benefits for startups and other companies to locate in a place where they can get deals done and talk to other people. >> we are growing all the time and hiring. we have over 40 positions both in san francisco and here in santa clara. >> reporter: but high salaries for some put pressure on others dealing with among other things the also sky rocketing price of housing. >> there is limits on how much housing we can build in the bay area. there is a certain point where the forces are going to come together and crunch and slow things down a little. >> reporter: the tech job boom is real and record setting. one other eye opening statistic from the survey, job growth over the last eight years in san francisco, 101%. here in tech heavy santa clara about the sudden loss of her husband. dave goldberg died last month after a treadmill accident. today marked the end of a 30 day mourning period observed in the jewish religion. sandberg grieves for drivers speeding running red lights or not yielding for pedestrians. this is part of the city's vision zero plan. the goal is zero pedestrian deaths by the year 2020. >> if we can focus on the things to get people into these and eliminate them or raise awareness we are doing our job. >> officials say to expect similar crack downs in san francisco in the months ahead. a woman rescued from the balcony of a burning apartment. you are looking at the arials of the after math from our nbc chopper. the building was engulfed in flames. at least 12 units were damaged but none of the tenants including the woman trapped were hurt. the oakland hills are about to get a lot more sparse in the name of fire safety. oakland city council approved the controversial plan to use the $4 million grant to remove hundreds of nonnative trees to reduce fire danger. the removals will happen in the areas burned in the 1991 oakland hills fire. that blaze killed 25 people and destroyed more than 3,000 homes. opponents say chopping down the trees will damage wild life and increase risks of landslides. tree trimming and removal will begin next year. let's get back to jeff ranieri. we need to know what is happening here and out of towners need to figure out good bay area weather. >> a little of everything for all folks visiting. we did start off with less fog. beautiful shot from the north bay looking back towards san francisco. as we head throughout the day high clouds increase and not a lot of sunshine throughout the afternoon and then by this evening that sun is now coming on back. here is the thing. we are not going to be fog free in the forecast. let's take a look at future cast. tomorrow morning we start off with areas of low clouds. the typical fog right down throughout san francisco. low clouds for san jose and east bay. you can see green in the future cast. that is isolated areas of drizzle that are likely for the east south bay and peninsula. on your drive tomorrow morning you will likely have windshield wipers on. throughout the late morning hours we will have a tough time getting rid of the cloud cover but we do think that will happen. here is how the temperatures look for tomorrow across the south bay. 73 degrees for the trivalley. 76 and partly cloudy skies. san francisco holds on to the clouds and 62. right here for the north bay we average 75. as we take you to the extended forecast for the south bay temperatures go warmer by this upcoming weekend. upper 70s and low 80s. for the peninsula we are looking at upper 70s coming on back. we had the chance of thunderstorms throughout the bay area earlier in the week for this weekend. we have taken it out because it is only a 10% possibility at this point. san francisco stays cool with fog. if you are visiting you want to take a trip towards the golden gate bridge you get the classic fog. for the north bay, east shore great weather into the napa valley by sunday with 84 degrees and facility in northern california. the sickness has been lead poisoning. miracle is her name because it was something of a miracle that condorsurvive in the wild. miracle is the first baby born in the wild after the birds were released. in may she was found suffering from lead poisoning. >> it is pretty conclusive that this lead is coming from some ammunition. >> reporter: veterinarian is convinced they are eating lead from dead animals that had been shot and abandoned. >> and the condors use the bullet holes to get good entry point to get into the carcass. so they immediately ingest a lot of lead when they are feeding on these animals. >> reporter: a fire arms industry trade association says bullets aren't to blame, quote, condors are exposed to other sources of lead in the environment and that has the same isotope range as traditional ammission which is made with recycled lead. the executive director of the wild life society says that statement isn't accurate. >> over 50 condors have died from lead poisoning and we can attribute 80% to injegz of spent lead ammunition. >> reporter: california passed a law to ban lead bullets but it is being phased in. >> thank you. just ahead potentially putting children's dreams on hold. this is where they round the bases and slide into home plate. it's where kids from troubled neighborhoods pretend they are big leaguers and aim for fences. this is also where a thief may have stolen some dreams. >> the center field light tower, someone struck in to the back and made off with only an estimated $100 worth of copper wiring. >> from this entry point you can get to the wires that hook up to the lights. it is about an 80 foot high pole. >> reporter: thefts of copper wiring are an ongoing problem in san jose. sergeant says repairs cost between $20,000 and $25,000 and take months to complete. >> with the way the budget is right now and some of the funds it's going to be very costly to fix that and there is a big back log of other projects. >> reporter: that puts next month's regionals and world series tournaments in jeopardy. >> it's not fair for the kids. >> reporter: parents are angry. she says pal baseball helps keep the local kids out of gangs and drugs. now to wiring theft might keep kids off the diamond, as well. >> safety for us is paramount. >> reporter: there are two baseball fields here both with different dimensions depending on the child's age. in tournament play pal says you need both fields open day and night. we're in san jose nbc bay area news. a struggle with a wanted man left two berkeley police officers injured at the wells fargo bank. police say bank employees asked the man to leave but he refused. chance then fought with the officers when they tried to arrest them on an outstanding warrant. new details about an alleged terror plot to kill police officers. the fbi says two men met over the weekend to discuss the plan in boston. one is now in custody and the other was shot to death yesterday. today police took the extraordinary step of showing the body camera video of the shooting to community leaders. they have not released the video to the general public but did hand out this still image. investigators are disputing claims from the man's family that he was shot in the back. tonight members of the bay area muslim community are calling for an independent investigation. >> reporter: boston police show surveillance video of the confrontation between 26-year-old rahim and members of a terrorism task force. >> the video is clear as far as imminent threat. you see them retreat 15 to 20 yards. >> reporter: others aren't so sure. >> the film the video is inconclusive. i don't think he was shot in the back by virtue of that however we couldn't see clearly at all and asking the question. >> reporter: his older brother seen here leading followers reportedly left a media brief unconvinced of the version. >> everything we know also is just what law enforcement is saying. they didn't even have enough evidence to get an arrest warrant before they approached him. >> reporter: he came to oakland six months ago and has been called a positive force in the muslim community and publically denounced tsarnaev brother's involvement. >> he was is pillar in the community, a well respected teacher, scholar and someone who is committing his life to community service. >> reporter: nbc bay area news. we are learning a military lab accidently sent anthrax to over 50 businesses double the number from last week. investigators say they expect that number to rise as they look into how widespread this problem really is. right now 11 states and three countries are affected. as we reported previously stanford university says there is no public safety threat. no one has been infected but at least 30 workers are being treated for possible exposure. google is putting the brakes on the release of information linked to self driving cars specifically google says it will no longer release accident reports to protect the privacy of the other drivers involved in those crashes. google says there have been a total of 12 accidents involving self driving cars. the latest when a self driving car was rear ended. google says the cars have never been in fault in any of the crashes. the cost of cancer touches just about anyone. one woman you are about to meet was forced to california's drought has become so devastating farmers are giving up on their crops. >> there isn't much more we can do. >> reporter: the lack of water and rain have forced growers to turn under the asparagus on his farm. >> this would have produced over 300,000 pounds of asparagus. >> as well as produce a few dozen jobs. california's agricultural industry is taking the biggest hit economically from the drought that is now in its fourth year. >> it is terrible because it is an economic loss for me but beyond that it's going to be a loss of jobs. it takes about 20 people to harvest this field for two months. >> reporter: some 18,600 mostly farm jobs as well as $2.7 billion in revenue are expected to dry up this year according to a state report because of the drought that's left lakes as dry as deserts. >> i have never seen it this low. >> we have been coming here for like the past four or five years and it gets lower every year. >> reporter: the worst drought in the state's history is also resulted in the toughest water restrictions ever with some success water consumption is off by 13% but the state wants it reduced by 25%. while farmers add to the several hundred thousand acres that have been plowed under waiting for a wetter forecast. >> it has been a difficult and challenging time for so many people around here. let's bring in our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. 8:46 p.m. this is fresh territory. this is special primetime edition. >> people probably ate dinner and got checked into what you can expect. we have changes moving in across the bay area. i know you noticed it today you looked up and saw cloud cover throughout the bay area. it is getting sparked up by upper level area of low pressure and bring us some drizzle. today we had those clouds moving throughout all of northern california even isolated showers well up north didn't do much of anything for the drought but did help at least fire danger a little bit. now to the cloud cover beginning to move out we still have enough moisture that we will have fog return for tomorrow morning. temperatures in the low 50s and notice areas of mist and also drizzle back for the south bay, peninsula, east bay and san francisco. the other spot that looks like it may start off with partly cloudy skies is into the north bay. let's take you to future cast. you see clouds developing across the bay area for tomorrow morning and look for the areas of green where the drizzle will be likely. that is great for at least short term fire danger with dry conditions anything is better than nothing at all. it is likely here throughout the mountains down through palo alto right through san jose possibly mist. and as we head throughout the day we will see clouds push back with filtered sunshine and we keep a close eye up to marin. we have more rainfall. we expect in northern california tomorrow and that may actually fire off showers and possibly in santa rosa. if you are headed north of santa rosa expect the chance here of showers for tomorrow. let's take you into the microclimate forecast throughout thursday and we have sunshine filtered sun. 73 degrees expected in san jose. for the peninsula if you are here visiting for the nba finals a quick road trip in the morning hours before the game at night where you have cold weather expected for the entire coast and cloudy conditions. temps in the 50s. over to palo alto 70 degrees and san francisco upper 50s and low 60s. let's take you to the north bay, east bay and trivalley. maybe a quick trip in the morning up to wine country. there is so much to do. 72 expected in napa. isolated chance of showers in santa rosa. if you are headed to oakland for the nba finals game pregame forecast looks to be at 66 degrees. and will actually have a little bit of sun. there is a live view. they have it lit up and will probably leave the lights on all night long. and for the trivalley and looking at 73 for pleasanten. we have been tracking the chance for thunderstorms. looks like any remnants of two different hurricanes in the pacific would have the best chance of producing thunderstorms right across the sierra. one of the hurricanes is going to make landfall and that is hurricane blanca a strong category 4 hurricane moving close to cabo by sunday and moving past by monday. the storm track is now away but if you have travel plans be prepared for at least tropical storm conditions. >> i remember you talking about this a few months ago. a lot of vacationers down there. >> i think you are okay if you go there but it is something you will need to
