healthy cultures don't create people like that. somethingng wrong. that's it for us tonight. tune in every night at 8:00 to the show that's the sworn enemy of lying, pomposity, smugness, and groupthink. "the five"'s next from new york. we will see you tomorrow. good night. >> jesse: hello, everybody. i am jesse watters. along with kennedy, juan williams, greg gutfeld and dana perino. it is 9:00 in new york city and this is "the five." this is a fox news weather alert. hurricane irma, the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the atlantic, currently wreaking havoc in the caribbean, with the storm forecasted to hit the united states mainland in the coming days. we are monitoring the storm and will have a full update later in the hour. now for our top story. yesterday, we told you about president trump's announcement that he's ending president obama's controversial daca program which helped
flat out discrimination coming from this white house. >> jesse: this is racist, repealing obamacare was racist. the travel ban was racist. even trump's speech in poland was racist. when they don't have a policy argument to make, it's the racial attack. isn't that right? >> greg: the most overused quiver that they have. he put a ring on it. >> kennedy: [laughs] >> greg: he put us in the right place. it was in the wrong place.t do you know how delicious cookies are? >> dana: i remember them. >> greg: i don't have the cookie jar in the bathroom next to the toilet. i keep it in the kitchen. what he did was he took something that should be in congress in congress. he moved into the right place. that's all he did. he made the public part of the decision, which is what should have been done. both sides agree that's where it should be. he transferred the decision, not the dreamer.
the dreamers are going to stay whereot they are. it's where the decision is going. do you know what this reminds me of? it reminds me of when reagan announced the registering of the draft. i don't know what year itha was. in high school or something. everybody got angry. oh, my god, he's hitler. it was necessary and it did not change a thing. it was something he felt he had to do because it was the legal, right thing to do but it did not change a a i thing. if the media actually reports a story, they'd have nothing. >> jesse: so, the president is heartless and racist for following the constitution. that's what the left is arguing. >> dana: remember that my theory -- racism is greater than russia. if they have a chance to say of republicann is racist, they will take it every time. this is something that republicans deal with a lot. i do think there's something to be said, if president trump had just waited three weeks, he
could have said oh, okay, i guess can't defend it. then ask congress to do it, he wouldn't have had to deal with all of this. this pleased his base for a day. by the end of the night, everybody on that tv that you just saw that was complaining, actually, the president agrees with you. he said he wants daca to get done. he wants to sign it into law and if it's not, that's okay. nobody has to worry about anything. i don't understand why the right isn't formatted. >> jesse: true. it seems like the left is angry when in fact, the president agrees with many people on the left. the dreamers should be protected and should find some sort of legal status permanently. >> kennedy: that's the point. the executive orders did not codify their immigration status. it really didn't. it wasn't a long-term, stable form of protection. and as greg pointed out at the beginning of the show last night, that's what made the
whole thing so cool. dana, you are right about race in the republican party. any chance an opponent gets, they will pin the racist tail on the elephant. that's why they were so many republicans who came out and so strongly admonished the's president for his carelessbl comments after charlottesville. particularly, a lot of the lawmakers in the south. where it's an ongoing issue from their childhood and their ancestry. having said that, the president wants daca to pass. i think that shows that we have some complex issues ands immigration. a lot of people want the wall. the vast majority of people want to stay here. if they were brought here against their will, all they know is a great american life. the majority of them. >> jesse: theoretical situation on immigration, juan. >> juan: okay. >> jesse: if you are a white guy and you live in texas and you
charlottesville and what we discussed with sheriff arpaio.o. and the idea that you have, i think 15 states, filing a lawsuit saying that because 70% of these young people are mexican, it's evident of the president's ongoing displeasure with mexicans. he's the one who has talked about murderers and thieves inside the judge who was a of mexican heritage cannot be a fair arbiter in his case.e. he has someat history that loads the deck. i don't know if it applies to every republican but i think some people are saying what's with trump and these mexicans? why does he have a hard edge to it? it speaks to his base. you had maggie haberman of "the new york times" saying he didn't really want to do it. but guess what? stephen miller, who used to work for jeff sessions, the attorney general and was an ally of steve bannon.
>> kennedy: top republican bias.as >> juan: he saw this as pleasing the trump base. you don't even have to do winks and nods.. and it's just you go get them. it's about the economy and jobs. goodness gracious, most are staying leave this alone. most of these kids contribute to local economy. they are good kids.f >> jesse: now democrats are siding with big business? i like that, juan. is there any risk for the democrats making so much fuss about the plight of illegal immigrants and not really fighting for american jobs?s >> greg: i think it cost them elections. they don't get that l because te media is on their side. they have this false belief. they are living in a bubble. they are living in a different s movie.
because he wanted someone with that background. >> greg:>> exactly. >> jesse: i want: to talk to dana about the base. rush limbaugh has something to say about that. >> what trump did today via sessions, is almost along the same lines as pulling out of the paris accord decision. it rocked them. they didn't think it would ever happen. "trump is this coldhearted." trump knows his base. h he knows the impact all of this has had on the american economy and american jobs and he is following through on oneer of hs most predominants campaign commitments. >> jesse: how would you assess that? >> dana: all true but at 8:38 p.m., president trump tweeted that he is good with keeping daca. in the morning, jeff sessions said hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost because of this and we have to deal with that. not 12 hours later, i guess that is moot? i guess he wants to have a legislative solution.
i am for a legislative solution as well. i do think there's a possibility. congress has been very close on comprehensive or whatever you want to call it immigration reform for many years. over ten years probably. three or four times. the thing that's different now is that there is now a deadline. six months. okay. a deadline can focus the mind and it's possible you might figure out a way to do it. what i would have done if i were schumer and pelosi today, with the debt release bill, i would have said while we're at it, sir, we would propose a straight up or down vote on daca on friday. you say you want it? we've got the votes. how about a deal? >> kennedy: they should have justhe done it. >> dana: get it off the table. >> kennedy: here's what jeff sessions said and what i take issue with. i'm always dubious that -- he says that hundreds of thousands of jobs have been taken by these dreamers.ou that's my problem.e
liberals suffer from this mostl mostly. it's a new strain within the republican party. the idea that economics is a zero-sum game. we know it is not. you canan actually create more wealth. you can create more jobs and opportunities in this country for everybody. you just have to let the economy go and get the government out of the way. >> juan: first to greg, it's illegal for a lawyer to make a jury selection based on race. they can have exemptions where they don't have to explain it. >> greg: right. exactly. >> juan: it's illegal to say that because of someone's race and heritage -- that's just not true, greg. the second thing to say here is sarah huckabee sanders said "oh, you know what? president trump wants comprehensive immigration reform plus daca." basically, he's sending it back to congress and saying well, i
guess the odds are against me technically but i'm going to claim this is a legitimate place to do it. he creates anxiety, fear in this community of young people who have jobs -- a high percent, almost 80% working. contributing to local economies. he puts them on edge. and you know what, why you play politics with this? is this comprehensiveyo immigration reform or do you really want daca? not clear. >> kennedy: why won't democrats admit that it was a horrible idea on the part of president obama? if they would stand up and say this was a bad idea in the first place, to set up the situation. >> jesse: dianne feinstein, we played it last night. just in case anyone wants a refresher. coming up, we will tell you about a story the mainstream media apparently doesn't want you to hear. we will be right back. e ♪ we will be right back. ♪
