the plane lost contact with air traffic control sunday while flying from surabaya to singapore. richard jordan has more. reporter: these images aired on indonesian television show the latest discoveries that are evidence of a plane crash in the java sea. the relatives watched in horror as their worst fears played out before their eyes. airasia flight 8501 vanished after the pilot reported severe storms ahead. in this particular instance we had good radar coverage. they had radar on the aircraft until the airplane went into probably a very dense part of that thunderstorm. reporter: the flight from surabaya to singapore disappeared minutes after a request from the cockpit to climb in altitude because of bad weather. this first crash for airasia. they have a good safety record. we all know when it comes to industries like aviation that just because you have a good safety record that doesn t mean you are immune to events like this. reporter: five countries have be ....
