it will be devastating if there is a shutdown. >> yeah. well, i mean, the shutdown is less the question. more devastating if republicans don't unite and send a message to the american people about what we are fighting for. we have to send something over to the senate, cuts spending, secures the border. make sure our troops are funded. make sure our vets are funded at the right levels. we have got to cut spending. we have $2 trillion in deficit this year. >> brian: you do. >> $2 trillion. we have borders that are wide open. the president doesn't care. democrats are mia. republicans are the only ones having a real debate in this town. we have to force unity. remember, we have, you know, 221 people because we had somebody resign. steve scalise is will battling cancer. so our numbers are getting pretty thin. we have to figure out how to get 218. >> no excuses here. we should have done our job this summer. we shouldn't have left. we should have done the proptions bill. frankly that's on the leadership here. we are trying to fight right now to hold the numbers down and do our job to secure the border. that's what i'm going to throw every ounce of my energy into. >> brian: show america what america would look like if you guys had the white house and the senate and then let america decide. don't make it easy for democrats. congressman chip roy, thank you. >> thanks, brian. god bless. >> brian: you got it. check in with senior meteorologist janice dean for the fox weather forecast. >> it's a beautiful day here in new york city. we have a storm that's looming in weekend. let's take a look at it. here are some of the temperatures feeling fall-like for new york and chicago 67. and then we have a front that's going to move through the west and bring the potential for heavy rainfall as well as severe storms for the central u.s. across the ohio valley. this is the thing that i'm concerned about, this potential three-ptropical. very heavy rain along the coast from the mid-atlantic to the northeast. that's where i'm concerned with the worst of the weather. especially as we get into friday, saturday and sunday with this low, kind of like a nor'easter, again, it could turn tropical. lee was a named storm. it just goes to show you don't need a named storm or hurricane to cause a lot of problems. we are going to be tracking that there is the cold front moving across the rockies bringing some measurable snow for the higher elevations there it is as we get into the 30's and cold front going to be on the move across the central u.s. we could see the potential for some strong storms with that that area of low pressure watching it very closely. fox weather.com has the latest details. steve doocy, i will be sure to encould you up to date as well. >> steve: thank you very much for the "foxcast." >> janice: you got it. >> steve: thanks, j.d. 18 minutes before the top of the hour with less than a week before the second republican debate, the latest fox news business power rankings show former president trump show the dominant leader in the race for the g.o.p. nomination. the same holds true in iowa and south carolina where trump leads republican voters in both states at 46%. it gets interesting though when it comes to second place. nikki haley making the jump in her home state now ahead of ron desantis among republican voters. and in the crucial caucus state of iowa, haley now in the top three, which just wasn't the case two months ago. so, what do those voters in iowa think about what's going on? let's ask them. we have got a panel right now. annual path iowa and south carolina voters. republican iowa voter jazmine jordan joins us right now along with iowa farmer and republican voter chris perdue and democrat south carolina voter hayden lay and republican south carolina voter rick schlegel. good morning everybody. >> good morning. >> good morning. >> hi. >> good morning. >> steve: jazmine, let's start with you. what do you make of -- i know that you are predominantly for donald trump. he has got your vote right now at this point. who is number two in iowa for you? >> for me i currently do not have a number two. i'm watching, see how everyone does, seeing what they stand for and i'm still definitely all for trump. >> steve: okay, chris, you're a republican. and you're undecided as well. who is your number -- you know, the conventional wisdom is donald trump is number one. if there is a number two, who would it be? >> >> if there iowa i farm so agriculture is important to me. they need to know about agriculture issues. tim scott, senator tim scott is maybe number two for me. nikki haley also has met with farmers in iowa here. she could possibly be number two, also. steve all right. rick, you're a republican. i know you are leaning toward donald trump, who do you think is number two at this point because the conventional wisdom was for months and months it was ron desantis. now it's kind of up in the air. >> yeah. i definitely am leaning towards trump. i would say my number two right now would be vivek ramaswamy. i like his policies. he has certainly taken on a lot, maybe a little bit too much. but i'm in the camp that maybe it is time for some more entrepreneurs and business people in the office as opposed to politicians. i'm grateful for what nikki hayden joins us from south carolina. hayden, you are a democrat. >> yes, sir. >> steve: what i have read is that you are supporting the candidate i have never heard of before tell us about him. >> yeah. my friend theresa bacovac a pro-life democrat running to challenge joe biden and in the democratic primary and i'm throwing my full support behind her. >> steve: why? >> >> i believe that she addresses the issues that are most concerning to me that is the issue of abortion and just standing up for the future generation, standing up for the climate and standing up for the pro-life progressive values that i believe in. >> steve: since you are in south carolina, hayden, what about -- i'm sure you heard what nikki haley said at the first republican debate. did that change your mind with the former governor there? >> i was vaguely considering haley as a first pick for a minute. even though we differed on a lot of issues, i like her foreign policy stance. but i think that any candidate that wants my vote on either side of the aisle needs to address the abortion issue head on. >> steve: okay. jazmine, let's go back to you for a second. i know you are there in iowa. one of your top issues and, i was born in iowa so i didn't see this coming, is crime. and you are worried about the no cash bail situation because when that happens, your town is kind of soft on criminals. explain why that's important to you out in my beautiful home state of iowa. >> yes. i'm also from norma, illinois and i go to school here. and illinois definitely has real leased the no cash bail. i feel like that is very dangerous and kind of in the nation in general because we're having people, you know, just this segment before this was talking about how fentanyl is a huge crisis when trump was president the fentanyl rates were lower that's one of the reasons why i support him. it's important to reform how the criminal justice system to make sure the people doing the crimes are actually getting getting prosecuted for them. so many lives aren't lost unnecessarily. >> steve: sure. chris, you mentioned a moment ago, because you are a farmer, ag issues are very important to you and right now you are undecided. can you -- when you are talking to your friends there in iowa, how do you explain to them -- and i know you are undecided right now. how do you explain why donald trump is so far ahead of everybody else? >> well, i think president trump has the experience with farmers. he did a lot for trade with other countries like china. we need to be concerned about other countries competing against us in the world markets with our commodities, especially south america. i think he has the expertise on how to deal with those other countries to make sure that we can market our grains worldwide. >> steve: absolutely. and market it worldwide as food and also as ethanol. hey, rick, final question. you are a final contestant today. you are there in south carolina. you are a republican. one of the things that is important to you is -- you told our producer yesterday, is something that i have not seen anybody else mention and that is you're worried about the moral decline of the united states. explain how the next president can impact that. >> well, i start by agreeing with my democratic south carolinian who said abortion is very important to me as well as some of the things that are going on around the transgender movement. some of the things going on around men in women's sports. so many of those things i think are having an impact on i will use the term nuclear family although i think it's a buzz word right now. it's getting away from the values of what we started hundreds of years ago and what has made us great today. and we can talk about immigration and the economy and all those things but if we don't get to the real core of the issue, which i think is the moral decline, i think that's where we will struggle. we will just continue to check boxes but not really fix the issue. >> steve: all right. great discussion today. jasmyne and chris and hayden and rick, thank you very much for getting up early and talking with us today on "fox & friends." >> thank you. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> steve: all right. still ahead on this thursday senator john kennedy is going to join us live but, first, we are revving our appetites and our engines. nascar comes to fox square and i hope you're hungry because we're cooking. ♪ ♪ ♪ oh, that's nice... ♪ and i've never said that. booking.com booking.yeah having diabetes can raise a lot of questions. like my morning ride, will it help lower my glucose?
