later this evening. we'll be asking a marine biologist more about the carnivorous critters that attacked a boy in melbourne. us vice—president mike pence rubbishes rumours that he's preparing a run for president in 2020. that's all ahead on bbc news. now on bbc news, it's time for sportsday. good evening. i'm olly foster at the london stadium. here's what's coming up in world athletics sportsday. four golds will be won here tonight... how close can laura muir get to the podium in the 1500 metres? it was bronze in rio for sophie hitchon... she's got medal chances in the hammer. and six races in six days — wayde van niekerk is getting ready to go in the 200. and i'm gavin ramjaun. in the rest of the day's sport: england's cricketers have won the 4th test and the series against south africa. once again, ali lands the knockout blow. good evening. it's the fourth day of competition here at the world athletics championships and we could see some british medals. so so much look forward to this week. it was a busy weekend, but we will see some world class athletes tonight for those four finals coming up. allison curbishley is with me to look ahead to the action that is just getting started, the men's 200 metre heats. we have been hearing lots of you on radio 5 live. it was an amazing weekend. where can we get some british medals? we have a couple of chances mother last event on the track, laura muir. she has looked better and better through the heats. a lot of expectation on her shoulders, but it will be tough. a lot of expectation on her shoulders, but it will be toughli have talked all the way through about the 1500m women's race as the most incredible strength and depth. it is the hardest one out of all of the programme to get a medal in. and we have two lauras there tonight, laura muirand laura we have two lauras there tonight, laura muir and laura weightman. both will have different views of what will have different views of what will result in a good championships for them. laura muir has a lot of pressure, but she has started to deliver for pressure, but she has started to deliverfor me. two pressure, but she has started to deliver for me. two titles indoors. she will be going in with her own strategy, but she's up against the world record—holder, sifan hassan. and caster semenya, who is an immense 800m runner. she has looked really strong in the 1500. almost the unknown quantity. we haven't seen her run 1500 to much. she has caused a bit of a stir in the event, because nobody is sure what ability he has over that distance. so i think we will see a very quick time tonight. that is the only where they can run the sting out of caster‘s legs. so it will be very tactical, but if laura muir runs her own race at the same time and runs with the guts we are used to seeing, we could see her on the podium. and laura weightman, brilliant to be in a world final. yet again, jenny simpson, a former world champion from america, last year came into the home straight in seventh position and picked off everyone and came in bronze. and i know laura weightman is thinking, i am as good asjenny now. jenny weightman is thinking, i am as good as jenny now. jenny will weightman is thinking, i am as good asjenny now. jenny will be in this final, so i think you will see something special from final, so i think you will see something specialfrom laura weightman as well. it has the feel of ladies night tonight. we have fantastic of ladies night tonight. we have fa ntastic world of ladies night tonight. we have fantastic world class female athletes. we was the eilidh doyle as well in the a00m hurdles. athletes. we was the eilidh doyle as well in the 400m hurdles. in her fifth world championships. she has so fifth world championships. she has so much respect. she was voted by the athletes as captain. it does not meana the athletes as captain. it does not mean a lot in an individual sport, but her speech went down well with the team. was it to chilean? it was. she talked about leaving nothing out. she said she doesn't want to see anyone to eat afterwards, more to come. the message afterwards, they have taken it home. she has a real opportunity. it's about getting through the rounds unscathed. she has done it many times before. and this crowd could be a big factorfor the british athletes. it is the men's triple jump qualification at the moment. we will see christian taylor, who is knocking onjonathan edwards' record. if we peep over, we can see jonathan edwards' record. if we peep over, we can seejonathan edwards getting worried. he knows he is holding on to that record only for a limited amount of time. when christian taylor gets it right, he will fly. we will also see allyson felix. think of all her global golds. she is going for a tenth one here. and taking it seriously, because she's decided not to look at the 200 and 400 double. she is focusing purely on the 400, up against shaune miller and the athlete from the bahamas, who beat her in that amazing finish in rio. both of them will want to get through unscathed. let's see who gets the better lane in the final. the women's hammer throwers are limbering up in the cage behind you. sophie hitchon took everybody by surprise in rio to become the first female hammer medallist from this country. nobody is going to get close to anita wlodarczyk, because she is streets ahead. it is going to be very tight for silver and bronze when you look at the rest of the field. if sophie can do what she did in qualifying, which is a really big throw... it will take close to the national record if not further, maybe 75. but she looks so good and that will have given her confidence. and look at this crowd tonight. each of the athletes you talk to, if they weren't in 2012, they have been told about the crowd. they are about to hush now for the second 200 heats. nobody of great note in that, but we are looking forward to wayde van niekerk in the next hit. —— heat. how tough will it be in the sprint double? you know you are important when they change the scheduling, and thatis when they change the scheduling, and that is what they have done to allow wayde to try the 200 and 400. they will not look easy. the athlete from botswa na will not look easy. the athlete from botswana has looked very good. so it is really how wayde has recovered from last night, because he had to run hard. we will see how those legs endured tonight. thanks forjoining us. endured tonight. thanks forjoining us. you still look like an athlete! alison will be going back onto 5 live sport. you can hear commentary across the bbc. now back to salford for the rest of the sport. england's cricketers have wrapped up the fourth and final test against south africa at old trafford — they won by 177 runs to claim a third big win out of the four matches, with all—rounder moeen ali once again their main man with bat and ball. 0ur reporter patrick gearey has been at old trafford today. how did it unfold? an impressive win for england, all wrapped up with more than a day to spare, which is just as well because we are expecting rain here tomorrow. we got some earlier and it interrupted the morning session after england finished their second innings. moeen ally left not out. south africa were set win. that looked unlikely and was even more unlikely when they lost two players before lunch. but then there was a comeback led by hashim amla and faf du plessis. it came to an end when england reviewed and lbw decision. the umpire said not out. it all came down to whether amla had hit the ball first before it hit his pads. had he hit it, you would have been safe. the third umpire decided he hadn't hit it and he was out. that was the moment that south africa felt they couldn't win this game. de kock was removed by moeen, and moeen came back to take the final wicket of the innings, his fifth. he was man of the match and man of the series. he is having a fantastic summer. so where does this leave england ? fantastic summer. so where does this leave england? well, for a start, above australia in the world rankings, and that is important ahead of this winter's ashes, but there are doubts about some of their batting line—up. are the likes of keatonjennings batting line—up. are the likes of keaton jennings up to batting line—up. are the likes of keatonjennings up to touring australia? that keatonjennings up to touring australia ? that is keatonjennings up to touring australia? that is a significant doubt. but in his first series as captain, joe doubt. but in his first series as captain, joe root will be pleased with a 3—1 series victory, england's first series victory in more than a year. manchester united manager jose mourinho has given the biggest indication yet that he would like to sign real madrid and wales forward gareth bale. speaking ahead of united's super cup final against real in macedonia tomorrow, mouringo said that a move would depend if the welshman figured in zinedine zidane's plans. he said: "if he is not in the club's plans and it is true that a player like bale is at the departure gate, i will try to be there waiting for him at the other side." football — and the manager of the england women's team, mark sampson, has been cleared of wrongdoing after eniola aluko — made a complaint to the football association about "bullying and ha rassment". she's won 102 caps — but hasn't played for england since making the claims in may 2016. the chelsea player said she also felt "undermined and belittled" by england staff and claims their negative bias added to her not being picked. but the fa said an independent report found no evidence of wrongdoing by sampson or his staff. the fa agreed to a settlement with the player earlier this year — with a confidentiality agreement believed to be part of the deal. bbc sport understands the figure was in excess of £40,000. england rugby union players manu tuilagi and denny solomona have been sent home from the team's training camp for what england call "team culture issues". .. it's understood to be centred around alcohol. 0ur rugby union reporter chris jones joins us now. so places in this england team are ata premium. so places in this england team are at a premium. what do you think lies ahead now for the two players?m at a premium. what do you think lies ahead now for the two players? it is ahead now for the two players? it is a massive error of judgment from solomon and manu tuilagi. i understand the squad went for a light meal locally from the team hotel and then the whole squad came back and then solomona and tuilagi went back out for a night on the town and the england coach eddie jones took a dim view of that and send them home from the camp this morning. solomona has onlyjust coming into the england setup after switching from rugby league qualifying on residency. and tuilagi, who has had such chronic injury problems in the past couple of years, it is the latest in a long line now of disciplinary lapses for him. soa line now of disciplinary lapses for him. so a big error ofjudgment for both players. poor timing as well as they both seek to prove that they are men who should be involved in november. it is likely thatjones will take a november. it is likely thatjones will takea dim november. it is likely thatjones will take a dim view of what has gone on. you mention how eddie jones might react. do you think he will jettison them straightaway? what will he be thinking? it is difficult to say, because this is unprecedented for england with eddie jones in charge. the two years up until now, since eddiejones took control, have gone pretty seamlessly, just the one defeat and a host of victories. 0n seamlessly, just the one defeat and a host of victories. on and off the field, the players seem to be on message and enjoying themselves. so whatjones does message and enjoying themselves. so what jones does now message and enjoying themselves. so whatjones does now will be interesting. i am told he is not going to make any knee jerk reactions. we will probably get more ofan reactions. we will probably get more of an idea as to where he sees solomona and tuilagi's future in 0ctober, solomona and tuilagi's future in october, when he starts to formalise his squad for the autumn internationals. but given that eddie jones doesn't like to set curfews and likes to give players responsibility, if a player abuses that trust, as appeared to be the case here, it is likely thatjones will not take kindly to that kind of behaviour. now to a unique day in the racing calendar. at carlisle racecourse today, the uk's only all—female jockey meet has taken place. called amazing monday, any rider who wins a race today gets the chance to compete for a £20,000 prize at haydock park later this week. carlisle racecourse is celebrating amazing and inspirational females. seven—year—old darcy from workington is one of them. earlier this year, her mum haley had a seizure at home. that is when darcy became a little hero. i was having a drink and the next thing i knew, there were two strangers with darcy after i woke up. i knew i had had a seizure, but i couldn't believe how well she dealt with it. she was amazing, weren't you? i ran out and stopped a taxi driver. and what did they do? they helped mum. tonight's penultimate race is named in darcy's on. it is the only all winning jockey race meeting. it is fantastic. it gives the girls to get —— a chance to have their rides on one night. jockeys winning tonight could do want to receive £20,000 of element award to help further their careers. we have 85 horses and good fields, which shows the support we have from owners and trainers throughout the country to send horses. and you have a lot of girls vying for this award, so there will be great competition and no one will be great competition and no one will be wanting to come second. those within horse racing events like amazing monday are vital for nurturing talented women jockeys. that's all from us here in the bbc sport centre. let's go back now to the london stadium, and rejoin 0lly. let's ta ke let's take you straight to live pictures because on the other side of the stadium, is the third 200m heat. watch for the south african wayde van niekerk, 400m final tomorrow. can he do the 200 and 400 ? six races in six days? the bbc sport commentary team can take it up. commentator: here comes van niekerk. this is going to be tight. danny talbot is chasing van niekerk. van niekerk has a look across. actually, danny winslet, with a new personal best. well, danny talbot hasn't even looked at the clock yet. wait until he sees the time. that is a new personal best. whatever plastic image of the night. the great wayde van niekerk with danny talbot on his shoulder. they we re danny talbot on his shoulder. they were practically chatting as they both crossed the line. danny talbot getting dragged around the 200m with overweight van niekerk, who is one of the favourites —— wayde van niekerk. that was fantastic from danny talbot and wayde van niekerk. we will try and catch a word with danny talbot. he will be speaking to collea g u es danny talbot. he will be speaking to colleagues at bbc sport anyway. what a great thing to bring you live on bbc news. before the action started today, we had a few medal ceremonies here in the stadium for a few events that we had yesterday, especially that we had yesterday, especially that fantastic final of the women's 100m. it was a real upset as the american tori bowie won gold. elaine thompson, the nailed on favourite, came fifth. tori bowie dipped further line, sprawled across the track, didn't think she had won, but my word, she certainly had. we also saw the gold for the women's pole vault. we saw those tears from holly bradshaw, who missed out on a podium. but tori bowie, what a 40 hours it has been for her. justin gatlin took the men's title as well. thomas walsh from new zealand got his shot put gold as well. our timings arejusta his shot put gold as well. our timings are just a bit out, because tori bowie is making her way towards me as we speak. i don't think we will get her in this edition of world athletics sportsday, but i will interview her and we will try and bring it to you later on bbc news. let's just mark your car for a few things coming up. —— mark your card. we are about to get going with sophie hitchon in the women's hammer. we will bring you some of the action throughout the evening on bbc news on this fourth day of the championships. that's all from sportsday. there'll be more sport here on bbc news throughout the evening. for now, good night. this is bbc news. let's look at some of the main stories this evening. three young children are being cared for by relatives after their mother was found dead at the family home in the black country. detectives believe the 26 year—old was murdered by her husband who then killed himself at the house in 0ldbury.

it is ahead now for the two players? it is a massive error of judgment from solomon and manu tuilagi. i understand the squad went for a light meal locally from the team hotel and then the whole squad came back and then solomona and tuilagi went back out for a night on the town and the england coach eddie jones took a dim view of that and send them home from the camp this morning. solomona has onlyjust coming into the england setup after switching from rugby league qualifying on residency. and tuilagi, who has had such chronic injury problems in the past couple of years, it is the latest in a long line now of disciplinary lapses for him. soa line now of disciplinary lapses for him. so a big error ofjudgment for both players. poor timing as well as they both seek to prove that they are men who should be involved in november. it is likely thatjones will take a november. it is likely thatjones will takea dim november. it is likely thatjones will take a dim view of what has gone on. you mention how eddie jones might react. do you think he will jettison them straightaway? what will he be thinking? it is difficult to say, because this is unprecedented for england with eddie jones in charge. the two years up until now, since eddiejones took control, have gone pretty seamlessly, just the one defeat and a host of victories.
