abbott are digging deeper. you can trace it all back to donald trump's lies and the insurrection they helped inspire. now the committee investigating that attack wants to know what the former president's top aides knew and when they know it. joe. gosh! >> wait, just delightful, is it? four employees of fox news who had to quit after calling arizona for joe biden. i mean how could he do that. to lie and say the elections stolen and coming up with all the bamboo stuff. at the end of the day, joe biden gets more votes. the cyber ninjas end up saying oh, wait a second, biden not only won but he gets more votes. this would be like somebody hiring a group of gnarly bank robbers to go in and do a heist of the bank. the bank officials walk in and the bank robbers are counting the money. we have done an audit. you are actually $10,000 short. we given you $10,000. it's the exact opposite of the scam that trump supporters are trying to set up. it really is -- seriously, can't make it up. >> you are right, it's unbelievable. this is a group the cyber ninjas florida base whatsoever revealing the elections. they have top conspiracy of what happened during the elections. we'll send them into arizona, they'll overturn the election for us. more votes for joe biden and fewer votes for donald trump. we'll dig into that in a few minutes. let's start with the house select committee investigating the january 6th insurrection issuing subpoenas yesterday to mark meadows and dan scavino and steve bannon and kash patel. the committee says the information about trump's actions leading up to during the riot and attack and demanding those four men to turnover documents by october 7th. meadows and scavino were in contact with the organizers of the riot. scavino met with trump on january 6th to persuade members of congress against certifying joe biden's victory. bannon told his broadcast all hell is going to break tomorrow. patel took part in discussions with senior pentagon officials regarding capitol security. bannon and scavino did not request in comments. in a statement former president trump says the requests were part of a partisan exercise and suggested he would have exert executive privilege in an attempt to block them. >> some of it is coming on woodward and costa's book. the attack at a hotel in washington talking about all hell breaking loose and how they're going to kill the biden presidency as he allegedly put it. >> some of these people have to try to prove how they could have known about this. as we are finding here all coming together with a lot of people leading up to that insurrection. this all could set up a legal show down between trump and the biden white house which is releasing more information to congress about what the former president and his aides were doing on january 6th. the house select committee says it had already received thousands of documents from all seven agencies, the national archives have sent documents to trump for review, a process for required by law before the information can be turned over to congress. joe, there are so many people involved with what led up to january 6th, i just wonder where accountability or what accountability looks like at some point. >> they all voted against a bipartisan and bicameral and sweeping investigation to get to the truth because they understand it some leaders were involved on january 6th. some of them had phone calls with donald trump that they bragged about to other members that they now don't want the american people to know the truth about. there are a lot of americans who would not know who around the president was guilty of committing treason that day. there are a lot of people who want to know who among the president's men and/or women were planning those riots to overturn an election. to overturn an election in america, we have the right to know. when the president is saying this is a partisan exercise, that's a 2018, it's kind of coup when donald trump says that. it's also a coup when he says there is executive privilege when you are dealing with sedition. donald, i have bad news for you, you are not going to find federal judges that are going to say you know what, we don't care he was sitting there and watching television and cheering on the rioters and refusing to stop the riot. his aides were talking about how all hell were going to break loose the next day. we are working and lawyers were working on theories which really have not talked about enough here on how to overturn a democratic election. and then how to stop the constitutional counting of the electoral votes on january 6th. there is no executive privilege for treason. there is no executive privilege for sedition or being apart in sedition or encouraging sedition, so we have to have the investigations and the documents. we have to know what the president knew and when he knew it and what bannon knew and when he knew it and what all the president's aides knew when they knew it. it's not that tough. we are going to look at phone records and talk to people who don't want to go to jail. we'll let the chips fall where they met. this is still is america. they fell. we still live in america. the law matters. your vote still counts. no one like donald trump has a right to actually throw away your vote when he does not win an election. that happens in other country. that does not happen here. now the investigations, the real investigation starts. let's bring in our national security analyst, michael schmidt and claire mckaskill and sam stein, michael schmidt, what can you tell us? >> what we are seeing here is obvious and important, that's the fact that donald trump is not president anymore makes it much more easy to investigate him. when he was scrutinized by mueller during the first impeachment and the second impeachment. he had the ability to stop documents and try to stop witnesses and he controls the justice department and because of that, it gives him enormous amount of power to make it difficult to get that information. and now that he's stripped of that power. what we see are these investigators moving in ways getting documents that looks like the biden white house is willing to turnover documents from the trump's white house. we may be able to see in that white house in ways we didn't before. my guess is that some where on january 6th in that white house were correspondes of documents of what was going on. at the end of the day, we know a lot about january 6th but we don't know a lot. we don't know a ton about is what trump was actually doing. there is been some reporting about his in action and how he was watching this. so how this process of document production and interviews that could be coming will get a. >> claire, these are boldfaces, meadows and bannon who have been persecuted here. what happens from here? they could challenge these subpoenas and they could say you don't have legal standing to subpoena me. what's the next step in this process and if they are called up and if their documents are taken and reviewed, what does it mean for mark meadows? >> a lot of this will depend on trump's pension for going to the court. i have a sneaky suspicion that donald trump will tell the national archives that no, you can't and i do not authorize you giving these documents out and you are going right into the courts. what he's banking on and what he's going to try to get them to agree on is the longer you take to ultimately allow these documents to be seen by the american public, more likely they are to lose interests. having subpoena things and having to go to court as a senator to get things from a company, we went all the way to the supreme court and literally it took years to get decisions to compel. one of our big weaknesses in our system right now is we do not have a prioritization in the court and their ability to get witnesses and documents. >> i am guessing it's going to take a while. . why don't we get our friends, talk about speaking of thuggery. he gave john pence's advice how to shred the constitution, thousand undermine 82 million people voted for joe biden and basically trash american democracy. >> what's really scary about that memo is that is man who was trusted to teach law students. i listen to the people on the right, oh, it's socialist teachers and it's all left-wing. this nut job was behind law school teaching students about the law and he has no respect for the law. i can't imagine how this guy can keep a law license. i think any court and i don't care how trumpian the court is and look at our founding documents and say, you don't belong in the law, buddy. this is not something you should be embraced in and nobody should respect this guy's opinion. i would like to find another professor who says john easman's memo is anything close to reality. >> the problem is he uses that memo as legal training at one of the most dangerous times in this country's recent history when there was a president actively working to overturn the results of a u.s. presidential election and that memo actually sought legal justification to overturn an election and throw out the results of the election and not count electoral votes on january 6th. it's breathtaking and i agree with claire. i can't imagine who would want their children to be taught by somebody that was actively working to try to undermine election results. >> no idea. the candidates certified as the winners did win. maricopa county tweeted last night. cyber ninjas leading in effort by republicans to audit the 2020 presidential election in arizona. in a statement maricopa county board of supervisor chairman jack sellers says this means the tabulation equipment counted the ballots as they were designed to do and results reflect the will of the voters. everything else is just noise. nbc affiliate says it obtains the copy and the review widens biden's victory. the findings are scheduled to be released later today in the state senate. willie. >> an unhappy president waking up to this news that the cyber ninjas, conspiracy group with no credibility finding more votes for joe biden and fewer for donald trump. >> it should be the final chapter when you have a group as official. >> what a waste of time and money. we know this is not the end of it. donald trump put out a statement calling for greg abbott to embrace the audit of the texas 2020 results that he won handedly. he tries to pursue a 50-state audit. he does not care so much about 2020. the idea that he would be reinstated in office was defensible. . what he cares about is having the levers in place and the powers at his hands to flip election results should he run again in 2024. some of these voting laws in the justification for these audits to create mechanisms for future runs to question legitimacy of election results. it's scary stuff. there is one common thread that ties everything together which is while these people were trying to overturn elections, form an insurrection, they were not the best and brightest behind this, right? no offense to dan scavino, he was out of his depth when he was trying to plan an insurrection. cyber news, what were they doing in arizona? it's crazy. what if they had more professionals trying to do this, you begin to wonder how much worse it could have been. >> the cyber ninjas are led by the guy who believed the cia threw the election for joe biden. >> can't rule it out. >> he could not overturn the results in maricopa county. president trump is supporting the audit election, he won by 621,000 votes but still wants a review of the votes there. he's flailing. he's taking aim at two senators who were among his most loyalists for not going along strong enough for his claims of election fraud. trump says mike lee and lindsey graham should be quote, "ashamed of themselves for not putting up the fight necessary to win." this came in response of woodward and costa who reported in their book "peril" that it was unconvinced. tie all of this together, we have the cyber ninjas and trump supporting the recount in texas that he won by 600,000 votes and he's going after lindsey graham who's been by his side and all the subpoenas coming from the house select committee, the former president is flailing again. >> this is what we have been warning the republican party about for four or five years that when you follow this guy. this republican party is dedicated to supporting with these crazy audits or candidates like the guy running for governor in nevada who used to be a u.s. senator who won't even say joe biden won the election. >> the truth that everybody knows. so just the absolute madness of it all, cyber ninjas in arizona bambooed and recounts in texas and states where donald trump won. every single person looking at this and the federal judiciary is saying there is nothing there. and, yet, there is still a something for donald trump. he could not. if you are the shrewdest operative ever born, you could not come up with a conspiracy that more audacious and more crushing than the plan that donald trump hatched when he went down that escalator back in june of 2015. he's destroying this party bit by bit and day by day and year by year, he lost in the white house and he lost the house of representatives. he lost in congress. and that's still is not enough. the conspiracy theory keeps going. people still keep bowing and scraping to really, let's face it, the biggest political loser in our lifetimes. i mean if you are around when hoover lost it is white house, the house and the senate. it's sad that these republicans are not strong enough to recognize american needs a conservative party. america needs an alternative. >> like liz cheney. >> america needs an alternative to policies that many believe are out of touch with middle america. they don't have that party with donald trump, michael schmidt, there were so many predictions the further we get away from the election, the further republicans would get from donald trump. you look at heller out and other candidates, greg abbott, he's a shadow of himself. nobody would have guessed that greg abbott would put on a dunst cap and play the idiot role that he's been playing. he's a mainstream republican and now he's just doing everything he can to make a fool of himself, dan desantis, a guy who is precovid and approval ratings in the 60s. he keeps doing his best to indicate donald trump. it's not serving them well. it's politically -- i can't imagine why they can't look at donald trump and see what happens to donald trump and see what happens to the senate and not see how this play ends for them. >> i am surprised too they have continued to go along as far as they have. what i am also surprised by is the fact that they don't appear to be anything standing from trump's way in terms of stopping any of this, right? so you have this adult on capitol hill that's investigating this. he does not have support from many republicans. it will be looked at and republicans will be able to characterize whatever he finds as partisan. the justice department is showing no indication or interests in looking at anything that happens at the trump's level in terms of january 6th or overturning the election. everything being done by this is at at capitol hill. even if they were to uncover nasty details end up in this report, they'll come out and we'll cover it but i can't imagine that republicans will give it any weight and all this time trump will have continued on doing things we were just talking about, trying to push people like lindsey graham back in line to supporting him, getting states to hold these recount or whatever that's going on in texas where they are looking at different counties and doing that across the country where you are so in the doubt at the local level and the local level system. by this wraps up, we'll be a year or two from now heading into the next election cycle where the president will have position himself and obviously 3.5 years is a long period of time. trump looks as well positioned today as i have seen. >> all right, michael schmidt, thank you so much for your reporting from the closet there. chuck schumer is plan to get senate republicans on record by setting up a vote on the short term government spending bill and debt limit extension, the house passed earlier this week. >> every single member of this chamber is going to go on record as to whether they support keeping the government open or overting a default will support shutting us down and careening our countdefault. if they vote no, they'll be solidifying themselves. joining us now is josh gottheimer. is the government going to be shutdown? >> we can't afford the government to shutdown so we have to get it done. this is one of those moments but it's going to happen. we'll get it done. >> what are the difference and on the different bill and legislation that democrats and republicans are working on, infrastructure, for example, what is going to end up left behind? is paid leave going to see the light of day? >> well, i certainly support it. what's going to happen at the end -- >> is it going to see the light of day. >> i believe so. first thing first on monday we are going to vote and begin consideration of infrastructures, roads and bridges and tunnels and climate resiliency and all things critical. 19 republicans in all 50 senate democrats, bernie from joe manchin and we'll vote on that next week and get it done and continue our work on reconciliation which will also pass. i am working on that and optimistic on that as well. the good news is we'll have a big win for the country earlier next week. >> okay, there are a lot of different moving parts. what are the gives that you can offer republicans that you can work in a bipartisan fashion. >> on the infrastructure bill that's coming out of the senate that's vote on. we got democrats, on the rec reconciliation package is still being worked on and close to getting something agreed upon and we move to consider that legislation. >> congressman, good morning, it's willie geist. there is no trillion dollars infrastructure package without the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill. what do you make of that strategy and could that group of congresswomen and men holdup the entire process? >> i hope they would not holdup the president's agenda and 2 million jobs a year. that's historic and out of the senate and sitting here and waying for us to consider in the house. that's horrific obviously for the country. you know just in jersey where i know you know well, hurricane ida hits us so hard in my district. there are resources that'll help in crisis like that and obviously the gateway tunnel, that's 113 years old right now and needs to be replaced. we have so many things on the line here and not to mention the hardworking men and women and all those jobs. we have to get it done. i don't know why any small fraction of the democratic caucus would hold it up. we agreed in august to bring it to the floor in september. we have been holding this thing to vote on it at the end of september. and we are also by the way needs to make sure we get reconciliation done. there are things like reinstating of tax deductions and all of these energy put behind a very, very important issue like climate change which we got to fight. i am looking forward to making sure we do everything we can on that front. i believe we got a great plan to get the president's agenda moving and we can do it next week. i am just hoping everyone is there for it. >> the fact the matter is you will need every vote. if that group of progressive says we want $3.5 trillion, we don't want to come down on that number. we think all of these stuff in that bill is as important as the $1 trillion infrastructure package so you can't have one without the other. what kind of conversations do you have with your progressive colleagues, i see your 3.5, here is what i need you to do for me. where are you on that? >> i am sort of where the speaker is, she publicly said last month that we should vote on the house, whatever we can get 51 in the senate. that's what has to be worked on. we all agree every single democrat in the caucus voted last month. i don't want anyone to go home and say by the way, we decided to not move forward to fix your jobs or roads and tunnels and transits and climate change. that does not make any sense to me and by the way, speaker pelosi who's better than anybody else bringing votes in. she's fully behind this. she publicly said she will get the vote. i know we'll be there and we'll get it done and reconciliation done as well. that's my colleagues and we'll have to keep working to agree on what the final package is. it's going to be historic. it starts next week on infrastructure. and we got democrats and republicans, too. i think we'll have and as i saw at least a dozen republicans in the house backing this. you got huge bipartisan win for the country as well which i think is a really big deal. >> sir congressman, i have another question about negotiations you but sort of stop me. the trains and tunnels that everybody uses to go point west is 113 years old? >> and it's literally crumbling. i have been in there. 20% of america runs in there. if you go to the tunnel, you will see pieces coming off in the building. it's so old. electricity is shutting down. that's why the corridor often gets slowed down. there is major infrastructure projects in the country that's considered unsafe. as a country we stop investing in infrastructure and the physical infrastructures. we have to do it and including all electric vehicle infrastructures which is the future and that's in this bill as well. the idea of any small fraction of the democratic caucus would block this important legislation makes no sense to me. that's why we got to work together to get everyone there. >> thank you for inviting me to go with me to the crumbling 113 years old tunnel. i will give you invitation to the new tunnel because it definitely needs to be put in. let me ask you about a "times" article that interviewed progressives and published and talking about the excruciaing choices they would have to make if the bill is less than $3.5 trillion. let's say it was at $2.5 trillion number that jim clyburn was talking about. seems like we are throwing around numbers here. what would be lost if -- i kind of think this is where it's going. but if that's where we all end up, what is lost according to progressives and that 3.5 to $2.5 trillion drop? >> you know there are so many important programs there on child care and we have talked about climate and healthcare. the way i look at this is time horizons, some of these programs maybe for a shorter period of time. the bottom line is this. it's hard to know exactly what the end product is now and it's hard to negotiate here. oh, that's exactly what we are doing now. we have to keep working on. the most important point is it will be an historic investment in our country and families and seniors. that to me in the climate, that's what matters most and we got to keep working on it and not leave the table. we are doing it right now and that meeting last night and getting all that package ready. first and for most, monday, let's all get behind this great bipartisan bill that we all agree to vote next week on infrastructure. get it done. huge win for the country. also, get done separately of this package. i am optimistic about both and we'll get there. >> congressman josh gottheimer, thank you so much for being on the show. still ahead on "morning joe," jen psaki joins me here to wrap up a busy week in washington and discuss for everybody. the politics is you have the situation, if i am the president and i am looking at the last few days where you had the crumbling now of the negotiations of the george floyd police bill, you have the problems of voting rights bill and now you got pictures of haitians being chased by horse men. this is weakening your base politically if you don't have the compassion to stand up. it has course we all greatly appreciate your work and what you did yesterday. so claire, we are at the top of the hour, so it's time that we talk about certainly for you, the most important news of the day, a cardinal steen that reminded me so much of the 2016 which of course was historic and having the lowest winning percentage of anyone world's series champs. they had a couple of eight game losing streaks during this season. i will be darned if cardinals are not turning the page. >> the 2006 cardinals team did very well in september. i think we spend a lot of time in baseball talking about power hitters and pitchers that throw 104 miles per hour. we don't spend enough time talking about aggressive base running. that's why this team has been so fun to watch over the last month. they are tearing it up on defense. that really gives pitchers more room, right? as long as they can get the ball in place, they know defense is going to save them. >> it's so much fun to watch these guys. you don't score from second. this team is and the next month is going to be very fun for everybody. >> it was just pure strategy and madness between those two managers. baseball is not played like that enough anymore. it's all about the long ball, all about the pitcher that can throw 100 miles per hour. the cardinals play all time baseball. the type of baseball that actually for the purest is the most fun to watch. >> yeah, they won 12 games in a row now and they're not clinching yet, they get pretty close to it. as we said yesterday, as good as the los angeles dodgers are, they are way ahead. would you really want to run into cardinals in a one-game playoff right now? i definitely would not want to see them with one game to save your season the way the cardinals are playing right now. tonight, joe, weather permitting. the red sox are up two games now and the j's have fallen one game back. this is make or take time for my yankees. we have cole on the hill tonight. >> that's a question if the rain ever stops. i know cole had a rough outing last time. but, the team for the most part, you guys had big win streaks, fallen back, it looks like and you look at the standings and the last week or so, looks like the yankees and the red sox are going into the most important regular season series between these two historic rivalry, they both going into this weekend in strong position. >> yeah. >> they both been playing very well right now. you see the yankees, really i think it all will turn on what happens this weekend because the red sox obviously can create huge separations with the sweep and winning two out of three and the yankees can climb back if cole pitches well tonight. >> mika is very nervous, she knows this yankees/red sox week is a make or break weekend. she's hoping beyond hope that the sox continues to wear their bright, yellow jerseys. >> i think stick with the you uniform. >> i think their fans want them to keep wearing it until they lose. >> i hope they keep doing well. all right, let's get to the news. a republican commission review of the nearly 2.1 million ballots cast last year in arizona confirmed the accuracy of the results of president biden's win in maricopa county. the draft report from cyber ninjas confirmed that the county's canvas of the 2020 was accurate. maricopa county's board of supervisor says in part, this means the tabulation equipment counted the ballots as they were designed to do and the results reflect the will of the voters. that should be the end of the story. everything else is just noise. the review widens biden's victory. joining us now, peter baker, columnist, eugene robinson and or former chief of staff, adrian, it's great to have you all on board this morning. >> tell me jean robinson, what if you hire a group of bank robbers and go in and pull off a heist and you find out the next morning that they put $10,000 more of your money in the bank. that's basically what happens to donald trump. these cyber ninjas whose leader believed in conspiracy theory and we are talking about bamboo chips in the ballots of arizona. these cyber ninjas found out that donald trump lost arizona by an even wider margin than the first 43 recounts that were performed out there. >> i was driving down to the studio this morning when i heard the report and i swerved almost. i was laughing so hard, this is an example of it. it shows we already knew that the votes actually counted because of recounted multiple times. down in mar-a-lago, the former president is flailing and he'll flail about this and he'll have something to say about the cyber ninjas, maybe they did not fight hard enough for him. apparently nobody fought hard enough for him. if this were a tv series, we would say donald trump jumps the shark and unbelievably there are still millions of americans will believer him. he's a bigger loser than we even suspected. >> peter baker, you just go through this with the conspiracy theories that the 45th president of the united states continued to push of the election that's stolen. that's not true. the united states supreme court says no, that's not true. you have of course georgia officials said it was not true. you have arizona officials who said it's not true. you have cyber ninjas and people are saying it's not true. you had trump's own data people saying it was the cleanest and most well-run election ever run before. you can go down the list and now you have lindsey graham and mike lee and others coming out saying that it was a clean election that there was no widespread voter fraud and the biden was elected. let's see who else? and recounts going in texas. the insanity is trump won. it's pure insanity and madness and awfully a lot of republican leaders still feel the need to play along with this madness. >> the fact that there was a report the last few days which i thought was telling that shows even the trump campaign produced a memo last winter before this famous rudy giuliani press conference where they presented these fanciful allegations of the voting machine. what's remarkable not only it's still continuing and here we are in september, the year after the election that it has succeeded in convincing a large chair of the republican base and president trump was cheated of an election that he lost convincingly by 7 million votes. it was 70% of republicans believed that joe biden was not elected as president. that's a real consequence. it goes beyond this as the fact that the arizona audit was supposed to prove that he cheated proved the exact opposite. it's ironic to say least. there is a series consequence to a large share of american believing democracy is unfair and broken when it's not. >> that's an important point. cyber ninjas may be a joke and they may find more votes this time around but they were propped up by the state's senate. i want to get your take in this. the house committee issued their first subpoenas yesterday, they are mark meadows, dan scavino, steve bannon and kash patel. demanded four men to turnover related documents and submit to depositions the following week. subpoenas say meadows and scavino were in contact of the rally that proceeded the violence. meadows took a lot of steps to undermine the election results leading up to january 6th. scavino met with trump on january 6th discussing of not certifying joe biden's victory. bannon told listeners from his broadcast that all hell is going to break lose tomorrow. bannon and meadows and scavino did not respond for a request for comment while patel issued a statement, "i will continue to tell the truth to the american people of the event of january 6th." the request was part of a partisan exercise and suggested he'll exert executive privilege in an attempt to block them. they have begun that work this morning. >> these are four people you would want to hear from if you want to know some of the central questions we have in this outstanding event. one of the things we do not know as it's documented attack on the capitol was what was president trump doing in the hours leading up to it. during the attack itself and the after math. that was never explained by governmental agency and as much as there has been some good journalistic. there will be a fight over some of these subpoenas. the president can't exert executive privilege. kash patel did not work this the white house, he works at the pentagon. those are open subpoenas by congress. that's not usually a person covered by executive coverage. meadows and scavino is more of a fight because they work directly for the president of the united states. so we may or may not see depositions happen on schedule but we certainly want to hear from these four people if you are trying to investigate what happened that day. >> adrian, common sense, it seems that you don't have to be a lawyer to understand if the discussions were part of a conspiracy to commit sedition. if the discussions were between donald trump and people around him and they were trying to overturn the election results of i don't know about -- 140 million people voting, 150 million people voting. chances are good, most judges are going to say that's not what executive privilege was intended to protect. >> that's right, joe. we are seeing the beginning of why this committee is so important, why it's so important that this investigative committee have subpoena power to get to the bottom of what happened that day. there is a lot that we don't know. i think these four witnesses will see if steve bannon actually shows up. we have not heard from him in a while. it's important that we get a firm understanding of what happened that day so we can make sure it never happens again. we are seeing it play out realtime why republicans did not want the committee to investigate this because this is not the headline they want right now. they don't want to talk about that day anymore. they want to pretend like that day never happened. many looking at the evidence, and it's clear what happened that day and pretended these were peaceful protesters. we are seeing this process play out. it's important that the investigative committee to take all the time to get to the bottom of this. i still find it unfathomable that the events that happen on that day did happen. the insurrectionists were allowed to get into the capitol the way they did. we need understand truly everyday that happened and occurred to get to that point. so we can make sure this never happens again. >> all right, to all this is going on as the white house is dealing a lot on its plates from the southern border to booster shots and democratic party overpassing meaningful legislations. joining me now is jen psaki. >> it's a slow time here. >> preparing for a government shutdown. what's the plan and what about public health in lieu if the possibility if it happens. >> obviously we are doing everything to avoid a shutdown. most public health will be exempted if there is a shutdown. there is no question, it's not helpful to fight a pandemic or address all the challenges we have in the country if the government is shutdown. so we are going to be inching towards that and republicans kind of going down on democrats. >> they are. this is crazy what's happening right now. the house has passed a continuing resolution that'll keep the government open. everyone can be secured and the government stays open and all their services. that included raising debt senate. senate republicans are saying we should raise the debt limit, yet, they still do not want to raise the debt limit. they want to play games with our economy, with the full faith and credit with the united states. they can vote on that today. >> meanwhile there is a lot of talk about the infrastructure package, reconciliation and bottom line is it comes down to the amount of money being spent and what's going to have to go. what's not going to the light of die in the end here in order to get some something passed. obviously the american people are waiting for bridges and roads and things to be i am improved in this country. are those things going to see the light of day? >> they are in the light of day right now. >> it's true that right now the next couple of days are going to be a pivotal period of compromise and discussions. the president will have his sleeves rolled up and will be calling and meeting people. what's important for the president is lowering costs for the american people, child care and so many people, lowering the cost for college and universal pre-k. those are all important to the president. he also knows there has to be compromised and negotiations. the good news is most democrats agree we have to lower all those costs. child care and college and preschool and that's important to people in the country. the question is the size. that's what they are talking about now. some things are going to have to go. progressives and moderates are going to have to some how come together. what is it about a president biden that you think will be able to make it happen. is he going to be able to get those two sides to come together and agree to move forward? >> he's going to work hard. just two days ago, he had a group of moderates and progressives, yesterday there were a lot behind the scenes happening and we continue to make progress. we evaluate everyday and what he needs to do and who he needs to call and invite here to make progress. the next couple of days are going to be important. we are also in a middle of a process. he's a great listener. he's working to do that with this package. >> he plans to meet with anybody and move this leave are going to see the light of day. not getting a complete yes. >> it's not necessarily true that something has to drop out. all of these pieces are in the package. they are in the package because the president felt it was important to women, families and lowering costs for people across the country and being competitive. now we have to figure out how we can get agreements to get enough votes and get it across. >> let's talk about booster shots. it seems like what came out yesterday was a wide array of potential for people to get them. there are a lot of booster shots available and they're not available to the american public. do you think it will happen at some point? >> this is a process. it's an important question. the fda and the cdc, there is a lot of lead-up to this week because the first time booster shots in some capacity will be approved. they're not closing upshots, they're looking at data and moderna data that's submitted for approval for boosters. they're looking at more data for people under the age of 65 and important to note what was announced last night, people and healthcare workers and doctors, they're at the brink here. they're at the edge. we want to make sure they know they can take the boosters to get protected as well. the cdc director wants to make sure they know that. that's an important piece, it's ongoing. there will be more that's coming as they look at data. joe got a question for you. >> how are you? quick question. let's start with the southern border, a problem right now with haitian refugees down there and trying to figure out how to sort through that humanitarian crisis. there is been an ongoing humanitarian crisis for some time. what can the biden administration do to have a global approach to this where we can get it fixed on the southern border and be assure two or three or four months from now that we are not going to be continue in this humanitarian crisis. >> you are right. this needs a longer term fix. that's why the president proposed an immigration bill on his first day in office. fundamentally what we need to do is pass a new immigration los law. we have not seen a plan proposed. that's what we need to do to address this over the long-term even as we are addressing the current situation in del rio and the border as we speak. >> let me ask you about something that the white house put out in the past couple of days, a report that the richest families and households in america, billionaires are paying about 8% in income taxes, a lot less of a percentage than their clerical workers are paying. probably the people who take care of their grounds and clean up their homes. for some reasons, the house democratic tax plan does not touch that capital. it goes after instead income earners. does the biden administration want to see the richest americans and multi national corporations like nike and amazon who regularly pay zero percent in taxes actually get taxed at fair rates. how are you going for his proposals. that's something we should be doing. some of the top companies in the world about 50 of the top companies paid zero in taxes. that'soutrageous. as you said according to this report, there's a lot happening today including some political news out of arizona. in fact, let's just roll the tape. breaking news overnight, nbc news projecting joe biden wins arizona. >> yes, the same thing joe reported last november. holds true today. a months long hand recount confirmed president joe biden won and the election was not stolen from former president donald trump. yet even now supporters of the ex-president including texas governor greg abbott are digging even deeper. the latest on that state's new push for an audit of the 2020 vote. you can trace it back to donald trump's lies and the insurrection they helped inspire. now the committee investigating that attack wants to know what the former president's top aides knew and when did they know it. joe, gosh -- >> well, it's delightful, isn't it? the poor employee of fox news who had to quit after calling arizona for joe biden, i mean, how could he do that? there have been, like, 87 recounts. he's still right, willie. what i love about this, the cyber ninja guys, the cyber ninja guys come in, in effect, to steal the election for donald trump and to lie and say the election was stolen, and they come up all bamboo stuff. but at the end of the day, joe biden actually gets more votes. the cyber ninjas say, oh, wait a second, yeah, biden not only won but he got more votes. this would be like somebody hiring a group of really gnarly bank robbers to go in and do a heist on a bank and then in the morning the bank officials walk in and the gnarly bank robbers are counting the money. you know, we've done an audit. you're actually like $10,000 short. so we've given you $10,000. it's the exact opposite of the scam that trump supporters were trying to set up. it really, seriously, can't make it up. >> actually, you're right. it's actually unbelievable. this is a group, the cyber ninjas, florida-based, no experience whatsoever in reviewing elections. they have conspiracy theories at the top of their organization about what happened during the election. so trump and his people find those guys. okay, we'll send them in to arizona. they'll overturn the election for us. as you say they come back with more votes for joe biden and fewer votes for donald trump. the margin actually grows. we're going to dig into that. let's start with the house select committee investigating the january 6th insurrection, issuing its first subpoenas yesterday to four of former president's allies. mark meadows, former deputy chief of staff for communications dan scavino, former white house adviser steve bannon, and former pentagon chief of staff kash patel. they are seeking information on trump's actions leading up to and during the attack and demanding those four men turn over documents by october 7th. they are also ordered to submit to depositions the following week. the subpoenas say meadows and scavino were in contact with the organizers of the rally and meadows took a number of steps to undermine the election results leading up to january 6. scavino, allegedly, met with trump on january 5th to discuss ways to persuade members of congress against certifying joe biden's victory. in bannon's case the committee said he attended a january 5th meeting at a d.c. hotel to discuss plans to overturn the election results. that same day he told listeners on his podcast, all hell is going to break loose tomorrow. that's steve bannon. patel, allegedly, was in contact constantly with meadows on january 6 and took part in discussions with pentagon officials involving capitol security. bannon, meadows and scavino did not immediately respond to request for comment while patel issued a statement that reads in part, i will continue to tell the truth to the american people about the events of january 6th. in a statement former president trump said they were part of a partisan exercise and suggested he would assert executive privilege in an attempt to block them, mika. some of this comes out, also, woodward and costa's book -- we had them on earlier this week -- and they have many details including steve bannon sitting in a war room on january the 5th, on the eve of january 6, talking about all hell breaking loose and they were going to kill the biden presidency in the crib, as he's alleged to have put it. >> some of these people are going to try to prove how they couldn't have known about this because it was, as we are finding here, just all coming together with a lot of people leading up to that insurrection. this all could set up a legal showdown between trump and the biden white house, which is reportedly leaning toward releasing more information to congress about what the former president and his aides were doing on january 6th. two people familiar with the discussions tell "the washington post" that given the gravity of the events on that day, president biden plans to err on the side of disclosure and grant requests from the house select committee. the house select committee says it has already received thousands of documents from all seven government agencies from which it requested information. the national archives has also sent documents to trump for review, a process required by law, before the information can be turned over to congress. joe, there are so many people involved with what led up to january 6. i just wonder where accountability or what accountability looks like at some point. >> well, we just need the information. >> mm-hmm. >> the republicans in the house and senate, almost every one of them, are trying to cover this up. they all voted against a bipartisan, bi-cameral sweeping investigation to get to the truth because they understand that some of their leaders were involved on january the 6th. some of them had phone calls with donald trump that they bragged about to other members that they now don't want the american people to know the truth about. and there are a lot of americans who want to know who around the president was guilty of committing treason. that day. there are a lot of people who want to know who among the president's men and/or women were planning those riots to overturn an election. to overturn a democratic election in america. we have a right to know. and when the president is saying this is a partisan exercise, that's 2018, it's kind of cute when donald trump says that. it's also even cuter when he says that there's executive privilege when you're dealing with sedition. no, donald, i've got very bad news for you. when you engage in sedition against the united states of america, you're not going to find federal judges that are going to say, you know what, we don't care that he was sitting there and watching the television and cheering on the rioters and refusing to stop the riot and his aides were talking behind the scenes, were talking about how all hell was going to break loose the next day, were working, and even the lawyers were working on theories which we really haven't talked about enough here. on how to overturn a democratic election. and then how to stop the constitutional counting of the electoral votes on january the 6th. there is no executive privilege for treason. there is no executive privilege for sedition. there is no executive privilege for being engaged in sedition or being a part of sedition or for encouraging sedition. so we have to have the investigation. we have to have the documents. we have to know what the president knew, when he knew it, what steve bannon knew, when he knew it, what all of the president's aides knew, when they knew it. and it's not really going to be that tough. just going to look at phone records. going to talk to people who don't want to go to jail. going to let the chips fall where they may. because this still is america. what you're seeing on tv here, they failed. we still live in america. so actually the law matters. your vote still counts. no one like donald trump allegations against him. an internal investigation by the justice department released in july said the bureau made fundamental errors in the probe after usa gymnastics first reported the allegations in 2015. the fbi has acknowledged its own conduct was inexcusable and aly joins us right now. aly, thank you for coming on the show. i know you've got a really important project that we're going to talk about, but first i just want to ask how you're doing. i saw a post that you put out after your testimony. i watched all of your testimony and i was so impressed on so many levels and i also really just felt very deeply for you in terms of your own suffering and i just feel like it's always with you, talking about it, sharing it, reliving it, hearing others relive it, it almost feels like -- and i'm wondering if i'm correct -- if it's a battle for your own mental health every step of the way. how are you doing with this? because everyone saw such incredible composure. >> yeah, thank you so much for having me and thank you for asking that question because i think it's a really important one where you are right, where people see us speaking and maybe in that moment we look strong and, you know, put together, and i don't think people realize that it really does take everything i have to be strong in that moment. i know this is so much bigger than myself, so much bigger than the four of us giving that testimony. i know there are so many people out there that are struggling that are survivors of abuse that are unfortunately suffering in silence. so i put a lot of pressure on myself because i recognize that most survivors don't have the platform that i have and i feel very lucky to have that. but it is really hard, you know, i think anytime i speak out about it, you know, right now, for example, i am -- i am really nervous and sometimes, you know, before i go to sleep before these interviews i have had those butterflies in my stomach and sometimes it's hard to sleep because i want to make sure i'm saying the right thing, but it's also not only the pressure publicly but it's also so deeply personal where i'm trying to navigate healing in my private moments but then also navigating it publicly, too. so sometimes it can feel like taking step backwards in my own personal healing because i have to continually relive it. >> that's really hard. i will tell you in terms of your public persona and how you present all of this and step up for your fellow teammates and for young girls, you've got it. you're in the zone. so you can worry less about that. you're doing a great job. >> thank you. >> i will say your partnership with lifetime is another way in which you're trying to step up and help your team, help younger women and help get some spotlight on this problem. what is it that you're hoping to shine a light on with the lifetime special, which i guess airs september 24th, 8:00 p.m. on lifetime, it's called "darkness to light." >> yeah, it airs tonight and i am really proud of this project and just really grateful to lifetime for doing this with me. it's been an incredible journey to be able to meet so many survivors. you know, the inspiration behind doing this show was, you know, after sharing my story publicly i never imagined the support that i would get. i never realized how many people out there could relate, unfortunately, to my story. there's so many survivors out there. so i would be at the grocery store, i would be like, you know, in the milk aisle and a seven-year-old woman or even a six-year-old man would come up to me and say i'm a survivor of sexual abuse and you are the only person i have ever told or a 14-year-old girl would say you are the only person i've told or i told my father and they didn't believe me so i'm coming to you for validation. so i realize this need for support for survivors and validation for survivors and just more of a common understanding in our society of how common abuse is and that we really need to be making it a priority to prevent and educate people as much as possible to prevent this because it's horrible, but i'm just really grateful the survivors i have met along the way have helped me in my healing. tonight i hope it helps one person out there who is struggling to let them know that they are not alone and that we support them. >> i know you've really wanted to make it really clear to other survivors that they are not alone and this special with lifetime as you point out that's tonight, september 24th. everybody should watch. i notice another thing you're hoping to accomplish with this is to present some tools moving forward, things that can be done. can you share with us some ways to sort of curtail this problem, to catch it earlier on? what are the tools moving forward? >> yeah, thank you for asking that question. you know, i've been partnered with darkness to light for many years and that was part of the inspiration for naming this project darkness to light. one of them was for the organization, the other part is because i want people to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and if you are struggling out there no matter what you've been through you are going to get through it. darkness to light has a training that darkness to light and i provide for free and when i watch this training i couldn't help but think i wish i had watched this when i was younger because i would have known that i was being abused and i wish the adults around me had watched it, too, because i think that people would have hopefully been able to stop what happened to us, but, you know, there's many different red flags to an abuser, but i think that some of them would be, you know, an adult should never be alone with a child, grooming is something that's really important for people to understand, my abuser groomed myself and a lot of my teammates where if an adult -- and it's important to tell kids it's not just a creepy man in a van, you know, it could be anybody. unfortunately it's very common for it to happen in the family or it could be a really beautiful woman. it's not the stereotypical person that we think it is. these abusers gain people's trust and sometimes they also groom the people around the child. so it kind of can make the adult say there is no way this adult could do that because they are so nice. >> right. >> they do that on purpose with gift giving, taking photos of a child, having favorites, keeping them alone, but are all red flags, but i really encourage people to take the training because it really helps give a better understanding. >> if i can add to that, those red flags, sometimes, you know, a child can't understand the nuance of someone that who is in a position of power as an adult and if they're too nice and they're, you know, doing things that they don't understand that nuance, but guess who can, someone else who is seeing this going on. so it's important to keep your eyes open for the younger ones along the way, if you are an adult working on a team or if you are a team member, everybody is a part of watching this happen. if something doesn't seem right, say something, and, aly, i just want to thank you for saying a lot. and i know it hasn't been easy for you. the documentary aly raisman "darkness to light" airs tonight on lifetime and we all will be watching. we're very, very proud to know you. aly raisman, thank you very much for coming on the show this morning. >> thank you so much. and that does it for us this morning. stephanie ruhle picks up the coverage right now. hi there, i'm stephanie ruhle. it is friday, september 24th, and we've got a lot to get to. so let's get smarter. we've got breaking news overnight, the head of the cdc overruling her own advisory board and expanding who is eligible for booster shots. the president is expected to speak on this very subject later this hour. you don't want to go anywhere. down in tennessee yet another u.s. community is now reeling. one person dead and more than a dozen injured after a gunman opened fire inside a supermarket. we will have the latest from the scene. down at the border in texas removals are ramping up at the make shift migrant camp. haiti's former prime minister will be here to explain why they're fleeing their home country and how the united states should respond. and the prosecution is expected to rest today sending the r. kelly trial to the jury. the journalist who broke the story, are you ready for this, 20 years ago, that is how long we have been in this with r. kell

abbott are digging deeper. you can trace it all back to donald trump's lies and the insurrection they helped inspire. now the committee investigating that attack wants to know what the former president's top aides knew and when they know it. joe. gosh! >> wait, just delightful, is it? four employees of fox news who had to quit after calling arizona for joe biden. i mean how could he do that. to lie and say the elections stolen and coming up with all the bamboo stuff. at the end of the day, joe biden gets more votes. the cyber ninjas end up saying oh, wait a second, biden not only won but he gets more votes. this would be like somebody hiring a group of gnarly bank robbers to go in and do a heist of the bank. the bank officials walk in and the bank robbers are counting the money. we have done an audit. you are actually $10,000 short. we given you $10,000. it's the exact opposite of the scam that trump supporters are trying to set up. it really is -- seriously, can't make it up. >> you are right, it's unbelievable. this is a group the cyber ninjas florida base whatsoever revealing the elections. they have top conspiracy of what happened during the elections. we'll send them into arizona, they'll overturn the election for us. more votes for joe biden and fewer votes for donald trump. we'll dig into that in a few minutes. let's start with the house select committee investigating the january 6th insurrection issuing subpoenas yesterday to mark meadows and dan scavino and steve bannon and kash patel. the committee says the information about trump's actions leading up to during the riot and attack and demanding those four men to turnover documents by october 7th. meadows and scavino were in contact with the organizers of the riot. scavino met with trump on january 6th to persuade members of congress against certifying joe biden's victory. bannon told his broadcast all hell is going to break tomorrow. patel took part in discussions with senior pentagon officials regarding capitol security. bannon and scavino did not request in comments. in a statement former president trump says the requests were part of a partisan exercise and suggested he would have exert executive privilege in an attempt to block them. >> some of it is coming on woodward and costa's book. the attack at a hotel in washington talking about all hell breaking loose and how they're going to kill the biden presidency as he allegedly put it. >> some of these people have to try to prove how they could have known about this. as we are finding here all coming together with a lot of people leading up to that insurrection. this all could set up a legal show down between trump and the biden white house which is releasing more information to congress about what the former president and his aides were doing on january 6th. the house select committee says it had already received thousands of documents from all seven agencies, the national archives have sent documents to trump for review, a process for required by law before the information can be turned over to congress. joe, there are so many people involved with what led up to january 6th, i just wonder where accountability or what accountability looks like at some point. >> they all voted against a bipartisan and bicameral and sweeping investigation to get to the truth because they understand it some leaders were involved on january 6th. some of them had phone calls with donald trump that they bragged about to other members that they now don't want the american people to know the truth about. there are a lot of americans who would not know who around the president was guilty of committing treason that day. there are a lot of people who want to know who among the president's men and/or women were planning those riots to overturn an election. to overturn an election in america, we have the right to know. when the president is saying this is a partisan exercise, that's a 2018, it's kind of coup when donald trump says that. it's also a coup when he says there is executive privilege when you are dealing with sedition. donald, i have bad news for you, you are not going to find federal judges that are going to say you know what, we don't care he was sitting there and watching television and cheering on the rioters and refusing to stop the riot. his aides were talking about how all hell were going to break loose the next day. we are working and lawyers were working on theories which really have not talked about enough here on how to overturn a democratic election. and then how to stop the constitutional counting of the electoral votes on january 6th. there is no executive privilege for treason. there is no executive privilege for sedition or being apart in sedition or encouraging sedition, so we have to have the investigations and the documents. we have to know what the president knew and when he knew it and what bannon knew and when he knew it and what all the president's aides knew when they knew it. it's not that tough. we are going to look at phone records and talk to people who don't want to go to jail. we'll let the chips fall where they met. this is still is america. they fell. we still live in america. the law matters. your vote still counts. no one like donald trump has a right to actually throw away your vote when he does not win an election. that happens in other country. that does not happen here. now the investigations, the real investigation starts. let's bring in our national security analyst, michael schmidt and claire mckaskill and sam stein, michael schmidt, what can you tell us? >> what we are seeing here is obvious and important, that's the fact that donald trump is not president anymore makes it much more easy to investigate him. when he was scrutinized by mueller during the first impeachment and the second impeachment. he had the ability to stop documents and try to stop witnesses and he controls the justice department and because of that, it gives him enormous amount of power to make it difficult to get that information. and now that he's stripped of that power. what we see are these investigators moving in ways getting documents that looks like the biden white house is willing to turnover documents from the trump's white house. we may be able to see in that white house in ways we didn't before. my guess is that some where on january 6th in that white house were correspondes of documents of what was going on. at the end of the day, we know a lot about january 6th but we don't know a lot. we don't know a ton about is what trump was actually doing. there is been some reporting about his in action and how he was watching this. so how this process of document production and interviews that could be coming will get a. >> claire, these are boldfaces, meadows and bannon who have been persecuted here. what happens from here? they could challenge these subpoenas and they could say you don't have legal standing to subpoena me. what's the next step in this process and if they are called up and if their documents are taken and reviewed, what does it mean for mark meadows? >> a lot of this will depend on trump's pension for going to the court. i have a sneaky suspicion that donald trump will tell the national archives that no, you can't and i do not authorize you giving these documents out and you are going right into the courts. what he's banking on and what he's going to try to get them to agree on is the longer you take to ultimately allow these documents to be seen by the american public, more likely they are to lose interests. having subpoena things and having to go to court as a senator to get things from a company, we went all the way to the supreme court and literally it took years to get decisions to compel. one of our big weaknesses in our system right now is we do not have a prioritization in the court and their ability to get witnesses and documents. >> i am guessing it's going to take a while. . why don't we get our friends, talk about speaking of thuggery. he gave john pence's advice how to shred the constitution, thousand undermine 82 million people discussing of not certifying joe biden's victory. bannon told listeners from his broadcast that all hell is going to break lose tomorrow. bannon and meadows and scavino did not respond for a request for comment while patel issued a statement, "i will continue to tell the truth to the american people of the event of january 6th." the request was part of a partisan exercise and suggested he'll exert executive privilege in an attempt to block them. they have begun that work this morning. >> these are four people you would want to hear from if you want to know some of the central questions we have in this outstanding event. one of the things we do not know as it's documented attack on the capitol was what was president trump doing in the hours leading up to it. during the attack itself and the after math. that was never explained by governmental agency and as much as there has been some good journalistic. there will be a fight over some of these subpoenas. the president can't exert executive privilege. kash patel did not work this the white house, he works at the pentagon. those are open subpoenas by congress. that's not usually a person covered by executive coverage. meadows and scavino is more of a fight because they work directly for the president of the united states. so we may or may not see depositions happen on schedule but we certainly want to hear from these four people if you are trying to investigate what happened that day. >> adrian, common sense, it seems that you don't have to be a lawyer to understand if the discussions were part of a conspiracy to commit sedition. if the discussions were between donald trump and people around him and they were trying to overturn the election results of i don't know about -- 140 million people voting, 150 million people voting. chances are good, most judges are going to say that's not what executive privilege was intended to protect. >> that's right, joe. we are seeing the beginning of why this committee is so important, why it's so important that this investigative committee have subpoena power to get to the bottom of what happened that day. there is a lot that we don't know. i think these four witnesses will see if steve bannon actually shows up. we have not heard from him in a while. it's important that we get a firm understanding of what happened that day so we can make sure it never happens again. we are seeing it play out realtime why republicans did not want the committee to investigate this because this is not the headline they want right now. they don't want to talk about that day anymore. they want to pretend like that day never happened. many looking at the evidence, and it's clear what happened that day and pretended these were peaceful protesters. we are seeing this process play out. it's important that the investigative committee to take all the time to get to the bottom of this. i still find it unfathomable that the events that happen on that day did happen. the insurrectionists were allowed to get into the capitol the way they did. we need understand truly everyday that happened and occurred to get to that point. so we can make sure this never happens again. >> all right, to all this is going on as the white house is dealing a lot on its plates from the southern border to booster shots and democratic party overpassing meaningful legislations. joining me now is jen psaki. >> it's a slow time here. >> preparing for a government shutdown. what's the plan and what about public health in lieu if the possibility if it happens. >> obviously we are doing everything to avoid a shutdown. most public health will be exempted if there is a shutdown. there is no question, it's not helpful to fight a pandemic or address all the challenges we have in the country if the government is shutdown. so we are going to be inching towards that and republicans kind of going down on democrats. >> they are. this is crazy what's happening right now. the house has passed a continuing resolution that'll keep the government open. everyone can be secured and the government stays open and all their services. that included raising debt senate. senate republicans are saying we should raise the debt limit, yet, they still do not want to raise the debt limit. they want to play games with our economy, with the full faith and credit with the united states. they can vote on that today. >> meanwhile there is a lot of talk about the infrastructure package, reconciliation and bottom line is it comes down to the amount of money being spent and what's going to have to go. what's not going to the light of die in the end here in order to get some something passed. obviously the american people are waiting for bridges and roads and things to be i am improved in this country. are those things going to see the light of day? >> they are in the light of day right now. >> it's true that right now the next couple of days are going to be a pivotal period of compromise and discussions. the president will have his sleeves rolled up and will be calling and meeting people. what's important for the president is lowering costs for the american people, child care and so many people, lowering the cost for college and universal pre-k. those are all important to the president. he also knows there has to be compromised and negotiations. the good news is most democrats agree we have to lower all those costs. child care and college and preschool and that's important to people in the country. the question is the size. that's what they are talking about now. some things are going to have to go. progressives and moderates are going to have to some how come together. what is it about a president biden that you think will be able to make it happen. is he going to be able to get those two sides to come together and agree to move forward? >> he's going to work hard. just two days ago, he had a group of moderates and progressives, yesterday there were a lot behind the scenes happening and we continue to make progress. we evaluate everyday and what he needs to do and who he needs to call and invite here to make progress. the next couple of days are going to be important. we are also in a middle of a process. he's a great listener. he's working to do that with this package. >> he plans to meet with anybody and move this leave are going to see the light of day. not getting a complete yes. >> it's not necessarily true that something has to drop out. all of these pieces are in the package. they are in the package because the president felt it was important to women, families and lowering costs for people across the country and being competitive. now we have to figure out how we can get agreements to get enough votes and get it across. >> let's talk about booster shots. it seems like what came out yesterday was a wide array of potential for people to get them. there are a lot of booster shots available and they're not available to the american public. do you think it will happen at some point? >> this is a process. it's an important question. the fda and the cdc, there is a lot of lead-up to this week because the first time booster shots in some capacity will be approved. they're not closing upshots, they're looking at data and moderna data that's submitted for approval for boosters. they're looking at more data for people under the age of 65 and important to note what was announced last night, people and healthcare workers and doctors, they're at the brink here. they're at the edge. we want to make sure they know they can take the boosters to get protected as well. the cdc director wants to make sure they know that. that's an important piece, it's ongoing. there will be more that's coming as they look at data. joe got a question for you. >> how are you? quick question. let's start with the southern border, a problem right now with haitian refugees down there and trying to figure out how to sort through that humanitarian crisis. there is been an ongoing humanitarian crisis for some time. what can the biden administration do to have a global approach to this where we can get it fixed on the southern border and be assure two or three or four months from now that we are not going to be continue in this humanitarian crisis. >> you are right. this needs a longer term fix. that's why the president proposed an immigration bill on his first day in office. fundamentally what we need to do is pass a new immigration los law. we have not seen a plan proposed. that's what we need to do to address this over the long-term even as we are addressing the current situation in del rio and the border as we speak. >> let me ask you about something that the white house put out in the past couple of days, a report that the richest families and households in america, billionaires are paying about 8% in income taxes, a lot less of a percentage than their clerical workers are paying. probably the people who take care of their grounds and clean up their homes. for some reasons, the house democratic tax plan does not touch that capital. it goes after instead income earners. does the biden administration want to see the richest americans and multi national corporations like nike and amazon who regularly pay zero percent in taxes actually get taxed at fair rates. how are you going to do it? >> we do. >> one of the fundamentals of what the president proposed is of course making child care college, universal pre-k available. that's not a pay for, that's not something going to pay for his proposals. that's something we should be doing. some of the top companies in the world about 50 of the top companies paid zero in taxes. that'soutrageous. as you said according to this report, people of the highest income earners are paying a rate that's much lower than nurses. that's crazy and it's something we want to address. that's what we are working through and discussing now. the insurrection, issuing its first subpoenas yesterday to four of former president's allies. mark meadows, former deputy chief of staff for communications dan scavino, former white house adviser steve bannon, and former pentagon chief of staff kash patel. they are seeking information on trump's actions leading up to and during the attack and demanding those four men turn over documents by october 7th. they are also ordered to submit to depositions the following week. the subpoenas say meadows and scavino were in contact with the organizers of the rally and meadows took a number of steps to undermine the election results leading up to january 6. scavino, allegedly, met with trump on january 5th to discuss ways to persuade members of congress against certifying joe biden's victory. in bannon's case the committee said he attended a january 5th meeting at a d.c. hotel to discuss plans to overturn the election results. that same day he told listeners on his podcast, all hell is going to break loose tomorrow. that's steve bannon. patel, allegedly, was in contact constantly with meadows on january 6 and took part in discussions with pentagon officials involving capitol security. bannon, meadows and scavino did not immediately respond to request for comment while patel issued a statement that reads in part, i will continue to tell the truth to the american people about the to stop what happened to us, but, you know, there's many different red flags to an abuser, but i think that some of them would be, you know, an adult should never be alone with a child, grooming is something that's really important for people to understand, my abuser groomed myself and a lot of my teammates where if an adult -- and it's important to tell kids it's not just a creepy man in a van, you know, it could be anybody. unfortunately it's very common for it to happen in the family or it could be a really beautiful woman. it's not the stereotypical person that we think it is. these abusers gain people's trust and sometimes they also groom the people around the child. so it kind of can make the adult say there is no way this adult could do that because they are so nice. >> right.
