>> normally when you say that l.a. river, it's a joke. you could drive your car down it. movies have been shot in it. really, there has been so much rain over the last 24 hours from tropical storm hillary that this river as you can see behind me is flowing. it is a fast flowing river and all of that rain that has fallen really causing flooding throughout the region. we are hearing of power outages as well as cancellations. parking lots are underwater. it is making driving conditions throughout the greater los angeles area not only really tough and difficult, but also extremely dangerous. out in palm springs in the desert communities, they got a heavy dose of nonstop rain. at one point it was so bad that crews had to pump water out of a nearby hospital. it's not just the flooding. all of that ring combined with very loose and dry ground is only a recipe for disaster. we saw mudslides and mud flows throughout the region as a result of tropical storm hil hillary. well we have seen at least one rescue in ventura country, no reports of any reports of death or serious injury. in the middle of this historic storm, something that has not happened in los angeles since 1989, 84 years, folks in the region were rattled by an earthquake. seismologist x estimate it was 5.1 and followed by other aftershocks and i can tell you being at home trying to get your head around the storm and you get an alert on your phone that there's an earthquake to take cover come the house was swaying for a moment back left and right. very unnerving. as far as the damage from the storm, we will get a better idea once the sun comes out later on in the afternoon and throughout the morning as crews get to drive throughout the region and get a grasp of how bad it was for southern california. back to you. >> steve: a lot of rain. jeff, thank you. >> ainsley: let's check in with our meteorologist for our fox weather forecast. >> good morning. as we know this was a category four hurricane at one point off the coast of mexico. tropical storm all day yesterday and now post tropical storm which means it's no longer a topical system at all. when that 35 miles an hour. rain coming down and moving to the north of 35 miles an hour. it's cooking and will clear the country by the time we get into tomorrow. the winds at times these are higher elevations. we sell wind gusts from the system up to 80 miles an hour widespread. there were some spots getting up to 60 miles an hour. really powerful winds on top of very heavy rain. some of the highest rainfall amounts we've seen. over 10 inches in a lot of areas getting six, seven, 8 inches. places like los angeles only get a tenth of an inch in august. it doesn't rain in southern california in august of this is almost an unheard of system that we are talking about. it will continue to track to the north and we will be a big issue. it still the atlantic hurricane season, that is something we are paying attention to because very active weather is on the way here and we need to be careful the next six weeks or so. those are your weather headlines for now. tossing back to you. >> steve: thank you adam. >> ainsley: two days until the first you people primary date right here on fox. republican front runner former president donald trump will not be taking part. >> steve: but eight candidates have met all the requirements to participate and there'll be plenty at stake on the stage in milwaukee. speaker we are live in milwaukee which means she safely left iowa with more. alexis, set the scene. >> hello brian. i'm still in the midwest in milwaukee, wisconsin, where they are doing a lot of prep and things are getting underway here in wisconsin. trump said he's not going to come but his name will still likely be a hot topic on the despite state with other candidates who will be asked a lot of questions about him as well. the candidates will hear here on wednesday to hit the stage. the eight candidates including ramaswamy, desantis, haley, bergen, scott, karen sheikh, pence, and hutchinson who just qualified earlier yesterday morning. they will support whoever the nominee has qualified by the republican national committee. they went to other states including new hampshire, georgia, really trying to get support ahead of the debate. this is their big chance to talk about policy and hit on major issues like that economy which iowa voters told me it's a very important topic to them. the candidates are going to have a chance to explain their vision to the american people. >> this is the beginning of the general election. a lot of families have been out in the summer, they are getting their kids back in school, and now they are dialing into the fact that we are going to be electing a new president within a year and this is going to be the debate stage where we will be able to tell what republicans can do versus the failure of joe biden. i'm holding out hope that president trump will come. i think it's so important that the american people here from all the candidates. >> it's not just ronna mcdaniel that wants donald trump to show up. it's the other candidates that we talk to on the ground in the past several days. they say it's the only right thing to do from the american people why he believes he's the best choice to lead from the white house yet again. we will see if he wants to come. back to you. >> brian: think very much from the live report for milwaukee. brian will be heading to milwaukee midweek. he will be live there on wednesday and thursday. >> brian: i'm leaving on tuesday. i will be there wednesday and wednesday afternoon for the radio show. afterwards we will do features and hopefully get behind the scenes afterwards but i have never seen -- outside of donald trump, i have never seen any candidate attacked the way ron desantis is being attacked. >> steve: did you see "the new york times" over the weekend? there's a whole thing about harvard and yale. the biggest nonstory in the history of stories in "the new york times." anyone who thinks if donald trump left the scene if any republican front runner is not going to get it, you are totally mistaken and delusional. >> ainsley: they are banking on the fact that donald trump if he's convicted, he is behind bars, he would be the next guy. and they want to attack him. >> brian: that's not "the new york times" job. if joe biden wants to, go ahead, but there's no veil, no nuance to it. it is just a blitz. >> steve: in deed. in the meantime, donald trump is not going to be going to the debate. it sounds like. >> ainsley: not going to go to any of them. >> steve: no. i sound like opposite the debate he might drop an interview that was taped earlier last week and they would run that. unclear how long that would be or where it would run or any of that stuff. speaking of "new york times," today in "the new york times," governor chris nuno who's a republican from the great state of new hampshire, he said that. "candidates should not be afraid to attack donald trump. trump has the iron grip on more than 30% of the electorate, the other 60% is moving toward a new nominee." he writes at the worry is if trump is a nominee, republicans at every level, state, local, national, will lose. what he is suggesting is something we talked about and some are republicans of set in the past which is after the iowa caucuses, the field has to shrink to 3 or 4 before new hampshire because the longer a bunch of republicans stay in the race, the more it ultimately helps joe biden. he doesn't think donald trump will make it. >> ainsley: the majority of americans don't know much about these candidates. we eat breathe and sleep this because it's our jobs but the majority of people do not. this is the beginning of the election, this is the kickoff because it's the first debate. even if donald trump does not participate, even if you are a diehard trump fan, you will watch this debate. you want to find out more about these individuals and they are always fun to watch. >> steve: go shopping. >> ainsley: we will see who has the singers, who can think quickly on their feet, whose more genuine, how they answer the questions. they need to be prepared for anything. >> brian: anyone who says i've been through this so many times before he let me tell you what's going to happen. no one can honestly say that because we've never had a president loosens grover cleveland and then come back and try to run again. grover cleveland was successful. there's no sense that any of these trials. >> ainsley: are hurting him. >> brian: or will come to fruition and happen this year. if you listen to the lawyers break it down, even the democratic ones that hate trump said this is complicated. especially the one in georgia. then cbs, why are you supporting trump? 73% say i support him and i support him during his legal fights for 27% said i support him anyway. what they did is what chris nuno was talking about when he thought about getting in the race. how many of these candidates lost. these indictments have changed everything. he has swamped the field in the summer. he is the news. love him or hate them, it's all they are talking about. i watched governor burgum got on "meet the press." he had seven questions about trump and each time he said i don't really do indictments below me tell you what i'm about. they said why would you answer the questions about trump and then they had the governor of minnesota come on and ask him about how bad it governor cooper gomez for not answer questions about trump. people say if you are attacking my guy for my party, unless i'm vehemently anti-trump like adam kinzinger or liz cheney, maybe i'm persuaded. >> ainsley: mike pence says i hope you participates. i like what the effect said. he has every right not to participate. he doesn't want to he doesn't have to. >> steve: what you will see as you will see eight candidates. you will wind up picking a favorite. doc i won. that guy won. chris christie will do what he will do. he will remind people about donald trump and the laws he allegedly broke. that's what he's all about. the big question is, and we talked about this, i bet two weeks after the debate the polling will be all different because -- and that's to the parallel of former president donald trump not showing up. people will have a favorite. don't ron desantis could do great or tim scott could do great. they could all do great. and trump will be out in bedminster saying i wish i would've shown up. >> brian: it would be great if it gets close and then trump has to get back in. >> ainsley: he's also being indicted for time spirit he might not want to get on stage because his lawyers might say you can't talk about it. >> steve: that's what he called off the press conference. >> brian: but if you get in after he said is going to skip all of them, it will look like he's jumping in because he's losing. >> ainsley: that cbs poll has him at 62% or 63%. >> ainsley: 62%. cbs has him at 62%. ramaswamy's third. >> ainsley: he's doing well and people say that they feel sorry for him because of the indictments so they want to support him and they don't think that's just as played out fairly. i think that's why carly is about to tell us about all of her anthony, people feel sorry for him because he's gone through so much and his song resonates. we saw that also with jelly roll, the guy who sang last monday. his number one song. we want the best for him. >> ainsley: the story about the singer and a bit but right now, carly joins us with news be the president is on the move. >> a scheduling update. president biting is leaving the lake tahoe vacation to visit the demonstration in hawaii. nearly two weeks after mass of wildfires killed over a hundred people. tulsi gabbard joined his earlier to discuss. >> what i hope joe biden does is not only sees the site of the worst devastation but also takes time to visit with and listen to the people and the surrounding communities. there's a lack of trust because of the failure to communicate, the failure to provide services. leaders all the way from president joe biden all the way down to the local level need to be present, need to be there, and they need to act on what they are hearing from the community. speak of the trip comes as democrats intensify the push for him to declare a national climate emergency. president biden now reportedly auctioning off parts of former president trump's unfinished border wall for millions of dollars. senator tom cotton says it is a blatant attempt to halt republicans from finishing the wall and he joined us earlier. >> its outrageous peer you can't make it up. the administration is racing to try to sell off all of these materials because they would rather have taxpayers take a massive loss of hundreds of millions of dollars then give them to the governor of texas for instance to build the border wall. allowing them to be sitting around and building up border wall and republicans take back the white house in 2025. >> an online government auction house have sold 81 lots of metal beans for 2 million bucks. thousands gathering in carolina. they cheer him on for speaking the truth as his hit song rich men north of richmond declines the charts in our very own griff jenkins got a exclusive interview. >> do you feel a little bit like the creedence clearwater revival songs of the past that had a resignation with the working class question work people deal with depression and anxiety and misery and hopelessness no matter where they're at. they don't need to be blue-collar americans. it's not just for one identity or one group of people. it's a song for human beings in general. >> after he performed this weekend he stayed afterward and made sure he met every single fan they came to see him play. stay tuned for more of the exclusive interview because we have more of a coming up later this hour. he had a lot to say. we've all heard him saying but it was cool to hear him talk. >> brian: i thought he would be shy, a person of few words. >> ainsley: so did i. >> brian: he was verbose. his answers were very long and he's very well thought out guy. i thought you would be shy because there was a suggestion he didn't want anything to do with the media. he turned down in a million dollar deal. but he has a lot to say and he's not afraid to say it. he's gone out of his way to say he's nonpartisan. he takes issues with republicans and democrats but his message is political. >> brian: did you take band in high school question work >> i play violin. >> ainsley: can you find out for me is it a banjo or a guitar? >> steve: it's a guitar. >> i didn't learn that during my violin lessons. >> mr. graham font was his name. i used to take violation lessons at my church. >> brian: i googled it. it's a guitar. would you be a second source on that? >> ainsley: it's a mix between avatar and a banjo. it looks like it. >> brian: and it looks like a banjo. >> steve: thank you very much. meanwhile, we want to tell you a little bit about something that a pennsylvania lawmaker is suggesting. you know what? why don't we all just work four days a week. this is what they are sugg suggesting. and this is a suggestion by g ronnie grain. today most workers continue to work standard 40 hour work week but society looks and operates differently than it did in 1938. it increases the productivity. it shows that company may be able to adopt a four day work week without losing worker productivity. what this rep is suggesting, saying to the 40 hour five-day workweek to 32 hours for days and you would still get paid the same. >> ainsley: okay. 41 different companies tested this model in the u.s. and in canada for six months. the organization that tested this found out that the employees were reporting less stress, less burnout after the six months and participating companies also reported great satisfaction with business productivity, performance, inability to attract employees. critics have said how are employees going to pay for this because you are still paying the same amount but one less day. charlie hurt was on fox talking about this and he says this strikes me that this is not a bill for people who work. it's a bill for people who don't work, don't want to work, they are lazy, and they don't want to get a job. >> brian: that's a little extreme but i do think a four-day workweek as a a nation if we embrace this will embrace mediocrity. and that's never what america is about. we outwork you. you have to challenge yourself and if you could do your job and 32 hours instead of 40, you are under working on that fifth day and you were just mailing it in. >> ainsley: i know a young girl from italy and she said people in america are known for being the hardest workers. and she loves this country, she's doing whatever she can to get a visa so she can come here and work and she said the american dream is possible. in my country you can't have these mansions. you can't work really hard and to work up to where many people of america have. >> steve: i don't like the idea of politicians telling businesses how much they can pay somebody. but i don't know anybody who would like more time off. what it would require though is it will require your boss to say okay, this week you will do this. do it in four days. i don't care how long the days are, but you will have three days off which would be great. >> brian: used to not getting raises, you are going to be the lead person your company, not going to be lead person lead person in your group. >> ainsley: it could depend on the business. and our profession we have to be here. we will be here for five weeks even during the pandemic we are a team. the three of us have to be together. some anchors were able to do it from their homes and some from florida. >> brian: i don't know business where you don't work hard and get a head >> steve: 41 companies in the u.s. and canada did it and productivity went out and burnout went down and ultimately if you are running a company, you want to attract good talent and this might be a way to do it. >> ainsley: what's a good example? on her and think of a good example where a four-day workweek could fly. >> steve: their people at this company work >> normally when you say that l.a. river, it's a joke. you could drive your car down it. movies have been shot in it. really, there has been so much rain over the last 24 hours from tropical storm hillary that this river as you can see behind me is flowing. it is a fast flowing river and all of that rain that has fallen really causing flooding throughout the region. we are hearing of power outages as well as cancellations. parking lots are underwater. it is making driving conditions throughout the greater los angeles area not only really tough and difficult, but also extremely dangerous. out in palm springs in the desert communities, they got a heavy dose of nonstop rain. at one point it was so bad that crews had to pump water out of a nearby hospital. it's not just the flooding. all of that ring combined with very loose and dry ground is only a recipe for disaster. we saw mudslides and mud flows throughout the region as a result of tropical storm hil hillary. well we have seen at least one rescue in ventura country, no reports of any reports of death or serious injury. in the middle of this historic storm, something that has not happened in los angeles since 1989, 84 years, folks in the region were rattled by an earthquake. seismologist x estimate it was 5.1 and followed by other aftershocks and i can tell you being at home trying to get your head around the storm and you get an alert on your phone that there's an earthquake to take cover come the house was swaying for a moment back left and right. very unnerving. as far as the damage from the storm, we will get a better idea once the sun comes out later on in the afternoon and throughout the morning as crews get to drive throughout the region and get a grasp of how bad it was for southern california. back to you. >> steve: a lot of rain. jeff, thank you. >> ainsley: let's check in with our meteorologist for our fox weather forecast. >> good morning. as we know this was a category four hurricane at one point off the coast of mexico. tropical storm all day yesterday and now post tropical storm which means it's no longer a topical system at all. when that 35 miles an hour. rain coming down and moving to the north of 35 miles an hour. it's cooking and will clear the country by the time we get into tomorrow. the winds at times these are higher elevations. we sell wind gusts from the system up to 80 miles an hour widespread. there were some spots getting up to 60 miles an hour. really powerful winds on top of very heavy rain. some of the highest rainfall amounts we've seen. over 10 inches in a lot of areas getting six, seven, 8 inches. places like los angeles only get a tenth of an inch in august. it doesn't rain in southern california in august of this is almost an unheard of system that we are talking about. it will continue to track to the north and we will be a big issue. it still the atlantic hurricane season, that is something we are paying attention to because very active weather is on the way here and we need to be careful the next six weeks or so. those are your weather headlines for now. tossing back to you. >> steve: thank you adam. >> ainsley: two days until the first you people primary date right here on fox. republican front runner former president donald trump will not be taking part. >> steve: but eight candidates have met all the requirements to participate and there'll be plenty at stake on the stage in milwaukee. speaker we are live in milwaukee which means she safely left iowa with more. alexis, set the scene. >> hello brian. i'm still in the midwest in milwaukee, wisconsin, where they are doing a lot of prep and things are getting underway here in wisconsin. trump said he's not going to come but his name will still likely be a hot topic on the despite state with other candidates who will be asked a lot of questions about him as well. the candidates will hear here on wednesday to hit the stage. the eight candidates including ramaswamy, desantis, haley, bergen, scott, karen sheikh, pence, and hutchinson who just qualified earlier yesterday morning. they will support whoever the nominee has qualified by the republican national committee. they went to other states including new hampshire, georgia, really trying to get support ahead of the debate. this is their big chance to talk about policy and hit on major issues like that economy which iowa voters told me it's a very important topic to them. the candidates are going to have a chance to explain their vision to the american people. >> this is the beginning of the general election. a lot of families have been out in the summer, they are getting their kids back in school, and now they are dialing into the fact that we are going to be electing a new president within a year and this is going to be the debate stage where we will be able to tell what republicans can do versus the failure of joe biden. i'm holding out hope that president trump will come. i think it's so important that the american people here from all the candidates. >> it's not just ronna mcdaniel that wants donald trump to show up. it's the other candidates that we talk to on the ground in the past several days. they say it's the only right thing to do from the american people why he believes he's the best choice to lead from the white house yet again. we will see if he wants to come. back to you. >> brian: think very much from the live report for milwaukee. brian will be heading to milwaukee midweek. he will be live there on wednesday and thursday. >> brian: i'm leaving on tuesday. i will be there wednesday and wednesday afternoon for the radio show. afterwards we will do features and hopefully get behind the scenes afterwards but i have never seen -- outside of donald trump, i have never seen any candidate attacked the way ron desantis is being attacked. >> steve: did you see "the new york times" over the weekend? there's a whole thing about harvard and yale. the biggest nonstory in the history of stories in "the new york times." anyone who thinks if donald trump left the scene if any republican front runner is not going to get it, you are totally mistaken and delusional. >> ainsley: they are banking on the fact that donald trump if he's convicted, he is behind bars, he would be the next guy. and they want to attack him. >> brian: that's not "the new york times" job. if joe biden wants to, go ahead, but there's no veil, no nuance to it. it is just a blitz. >> steve: in deed. in the meantime, donald trump is not going to be going to the debate. it sounds like. >> ainsley: not going to go to any of them. >> steve: no. i sound like opposite the debate he might drop an interview that was taped earlier last week and they would run that. unclear how long that would be or where it would run or any of that stuff. speaking of "new york times," today in "the new york times," governor chris nuno who's a republican from the great state of new hampshire, he said that. 73% say i support him and i support him during his legal fights for 27% said i support him anyway. what they did is what chris nuno was talking about when he thought about getting in the race. how many of these candidates lost. these indictments have changed everything. he has swamped the field in the summer. he is the news. love him or hate them, it's all they are talking about. i watched governor burgum got on "meet the press." he had seven questions about trump and each time he said i don't really do indictments below me tell you what i'm about. they said why would you answer the questions about trump and then they had the governor of minnesota come on and ask him about how bad it governor cooper gomez for not answer questions about trump. people say if you are attacking my guy for my party, unless i'm vehemently anti-trump like adam kinzinger or liz cheney, maybe i'm persuaded. >> ainsley: mike pence says i hope you participates. i like what the effect said. he has every right not to participate. he doesn't want to he doesn't have to. >> steve: what you will see as you will see eight candidates. you will wind up picking a favorite. doc i won. that guy won. chris christie will do what he will do. he will remind people about donald trump and the laws he allegedly broke. that's what he's all about. the big question is, and we talked about this, i bet two weeks after the debate the polling will be all different because -- and that's to the parallel of former president donald trump not showing up. people will have a favorite. don't ron desantis could do great or tim scott could do great. they could all do great. and trump will be out in bedminster saying i wish i would've shown up. >> brian: it would be great if it gets close and then trump has to get back in. >> ainsley: he's also being indicted for time spirit he might not want to get on stage because his lawyers might say you can't talk about it. >> steve: that's what he called off the press conference. >> brian: but if you get in after he said is going to skip all of them, it will look like he's jumping in because he's losing. >> ainsley:
