The Hillcrest Academy baseball and softball teams make the road trip to Mediapolis Thursday, each in search of their first wins. The Raven baseball team is 0-2 after 5-2 and 5-4 losses to Highland and Louisa-Muscatine respectively to start the year. The Ravens are hitting .163 as a team with a staff ERA of 4.00. Individually, Hillcrest is led by Jace Rempel at the plate with a .429 average and two RBI. London Schrock is the ERA leader at 1.75 in four innings.
Mediapolis is 1-2 overall with losses to Highland and New London and a win against Winfield-Mt. Union. The Bulldogs are hitting .241 as a team and have a 4.91 team ERA. Individually, MEPO is led by Josh Darbyshire with a .500 average four RBI and three runs scored. On the hill, Jason Brooks is 1-0 with a 2.80 ERA in five innings. These two teams met last year with the Bulldogs winning a 1-0 pitchers dual. MEPO has won 13 of the last 14 in the series.
The Highland girls basketball team dropped a road contest at Bud McLearn Court at Mediapolis Friday 63-31. MEPO started quickly, putting together a 17-7 run that lasted the entire first quarter, and turned that into a 31-17 lead at the half. The Bullettes controlled things in the second half, outscoring the Huskies 32-14 after intermission. Hallie Mohr led Mediapolis with 16 points, Haley Steffener added 13. Sarah Burton and Dani Laughlin each had 12 points for the Huskies. With the loss, Highland is now 1-10 on the year. Mediapolis improves to 9-6.

The Mediapolis Bullettes and Bulldogs proved to be unruly guests Friday at Lone Tree as they swept the Lions in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader. In the girls contest it was the Bullettes scoring a 59-38 win. A fast start gave MEPO a 20-10 lead after the first quarter and a 32-16 lead at half. Mediapolis would outscore the Lady Lions in the third 16-10 to put the game out of reach. The Lions had eight blocked shots to MEPO’s two, but the Lions were outrebounded by 11 and committed 33 turnovers. Hallie Mohr led the Bullettes with 32 points. Lone Tree had two in double figures with Maddie Jacque putting up 13 points and Allison Marshek 11. With the loss, Lone Tree is now 3-7, Mediapolis improves to 8-5.
