The Lone Tree girls basketball team received recognition from the Southeast Iowa Superconference with four Lady Lions named to all-conference squads.
Guard Maddie Jacque was a first team all-north division selection. The senior led Lone Tree at 12 points per game, sixth in the Superconference north. Her 31 made three point goals were fourth most in conference and her 56 steals were fifth in the league. She also finished with 53 rebounds and 29 assists.
Kasey Chown was a second team all-north division pick. The junior averaged a double double for Lone Tree, scoring 11 points per game, seventh most in the conference and pulling down 10 rebounds per contest, second in league play. She also totaled 31 steals, 21 assists and 20 blocked shots, sixth most in conference.
The Lone Tree boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Victor Tuesday for a non-conference tilt with HLV. The Lady Lions came home with a 65-44 win. HLV led 19-11 after the first quarter, but Lone Tree took over from there, outscoring the Warriorettes 54-25 the rest of the night. The Lady Lions had cut the deficit to 25-24 going to the half, before they dropped 25 in the third quarter to take a lead they would not give up the rest of the night. Lone Tree knocked down nine three pointers in the win, pulled down 37 rebounds, had 16 steals and dished out 15 assists. Kasey Chown posted a huge double double of 17 points and 18 rebounds. Allison Marshek scored 15 and Maddie Jacque 13. The Lone Tree girls are now 4-11 on the year.
The Southeast Iowa Superconference Shoot Out is here for area girls teams. The annual event happens at the end of the conference season for both boys and girls squads where teams are paired together based on their finish in the north and south division standings for one contest.
The defacto championship game features the winners of the south division West Burlington and north division champions Winfield-Mt. Union. The Lady Wolves come into the game unbeaten on the year at 16-0 and a perfect 10-0 in the SEISC. The Wolves are ranked No. 9 in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. In their last game they got by Louisa-Muscatine 44-43 with Farrah Nelson’s 11 point 10 rebound double double. On the season, WMU is led by Bradie Buffington at nine points per game, Nelson’s seven boards per contest, and Kyndal Townsley’s three assists and two steals per night. West Burlington is 17-1 overall, 14-1 in the Superconference. They beat Cardinal on Tuesday 79-38. On
The Mediapolis Bullettes and Bulldogs proved to be unruly guests Friday at Lone Tree as they swept the Lions in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader. In the girls contest it was the Bullettes scoring a 59-38 win. A fast start gave MEPO a 20-10 lead after the first quarter and a 32-16 lead at half. Mediapolis would outscore the Lady Lions in the third 16-10 to put the game out of reach. The Lions had eight blocked shots to MEPO’s two, but the Lions were outrebounded by 11 and committed 33 turnovers. Hallie Mohr led the Bullettes with 32 points. Lone Tree had two in double figures with Maddie Jacque putting up 13 points and Allison Marshek 11. With the loss, Lone Tree is now 3-7, Mediapolis improves to 8-5.
It was all Winfield-Mt. Union last night in a KCII area doubleheader in Lone Tree when the Wolves ran away with a pair of wins.
The WMU girls had monstrous second and third quarters outscoring the Lions 35-10 in that time to catapult them to a 60-32 victory. Seven different Wolves scored at least five points with Jobey Malone having 12 and seven boards. Melina Oepping added nine points and four steals. Maddie Jacque led the Lions with 10 points. WMU keeps their unblemished record intact with a 12-0 mark and Lone Tree falls to 3-4.
A strong defensive first half for the boys of WMU saw them up 29-9 at the break and they never wavered in a 54-34 win. Cam Buffington was a machine with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Fellow freshman Abram Edwards also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. The Wolves are now 5-5 and the Lions drop to 0-7.
