Mid-Prairie Boys, Highland Girls Get Wins at Blue Top

Three KCII area boys and girls golf teams met at the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort Thursday in a non-conference triangular when Mid-Prairie, Highland and Lone Tree squared off. In the boys competition, Mid-Prairie won the team title with a score of 179, their lowest recorded team score on the season. The Golden Hawks had the meet medalist and medalist runner-up with Dominic McCain shooting a 40 and Warren Scarff a 44. Those two spoke after the meet about their day. “First hole I drew my ball over to the left side of the fairway. From there I was able to wedge it up there within about 20 feet on the second tier of the green. I was able to hit the putt, dead center of the cup. I have never trusted my putter more than I have on that shot.” “For me, I wouldn’t say there wasn’t one specific shot or hole, I played pretty decent all the way around today. I pared one and two and eight. I had a double bogey in there, and the rest were bogeys so it worked out.”

MEPO Sweeps Lions

The Mediapolis Bullettes and Bulldogs proved to be unruly guests Friday at Lone Tree as they swept the Lions in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader. In the girls contest it was the Bullettes scoring a 59-38 win. A fast start gave MEPO a 20-10 lead after the first quarter and a 32-16 lead at half. Mediapolis would outscore the Lady Lions in the third 16-10 to put the game out of reach. The Lions had eight blocked shots to MEPO’s two, but the Lions were outrebounded by 11 and committed 33 turnovers. Hallie Mohr led the Bullettes with 32 points. Lone Tree had two in double figures with Maddie Jacque putting up 13 points and Allison Marshek 11. With the loss, Lone Tree is now 3-7, Mediapolis improves to 8-5.
