WLC students in Eileen Bierkâs class paid a visit to the Oak Hills and sang songs for the residents.
NEW ULM Washington Learning Center students took a field trip to Oak Hills Tuesday for some fun activities and to sing for the residents.
Teacher Eileen Bierk said the students typically come to Oak Hills once a month, but the pandemic limited interaction with Oak Hills residents. The students were able to play in the courtyard.
It was chance to entertain the residents and for some, a chance to see family. Some of the students have grandparents at Oak Hills.

NEW ULM New Ulm Community Education is offering an “Intro to Yoga” Class at the Washington Learning Center, room 104.
The instructor will be Rachel Sturm, who is a NETA certified yoga Instructor
Class 1 will be held on Tuesday, April 13, Class 2 will be Wednesday, April 14, and Class 3 will be Tuesday, April 27. All classes are from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. The fee is $7.50. A minimum of five people is needed to hold class.
“Intro to Yoga” is a gentle yoga class focusing on flowing from pose to pose and linking the movement with the breath. The instructor will offer a variety of modifications to encourage participation of everyone. The class does sitting, standing, and inverted postures, and challenging variations are suggested for more advanced students. Please bring a mat and water bottle.

Washington Learning Center continues to be a fun and exciting place to learn and grow despite doing it during a pandemic. This year has brought all of us many new challenges, but together we are working to provide our youngest learners with a wonderful educational experience.
The WLC staff and students have been amazing at implementing new expectations, keeping everyone healthy and preventing any spread of the COVID-19 virus. Some of the strategies implemented have been colored spots on the floors and cafeteria seats to indicate safe spacing, staggered time to use the restroom and access the lockers; shared seating charts with classrooms and specialists; wearing face coverings; increased focus and opportunities for hand washing, and new individual desks for the kindergartners. Teachers have also been embracing the school vision of outdoor learning which is in line with strategies for teaching during the pandemic and have brought the classroo
