Decisive loss at Notre Dame drops Syracuse lacrosse one spot in national polls

Syracuse, N.Y. The Syracuse lacrosse team’s 22-8 blowout loss to Notre Dame on Saturday didn’t cost the Orange much standing in both the media and coaches poll released Monday.
Syracuse (6-5 overall, 2-4 in the ACC) fell one spot in both rankings, to No. 9 in the media poll and No. 10 in the coaches rankings.
The top 5 in both polls was the same: Maryland, North Carolina, Duke, Notre Dame and Virginia.
Syracuse hosts Robert Morris 4 p.m. Friday. The Colonials (7-5) received votes in both polls this week.

South Bend, Ind. Syracuse lacrosse coach John Desko said his team had a good week of preparation amid the Chase Scanlan turmoil, seemingly ready heading into its contest at Notre Dame on Saturday.
As unlikely as that sounds, perhaps Desko is right. Maybe Notre Dame is just 14 goals better than Syracuse, period.

South Bend, Ind. Syracuse lacrosse’s second crack at trying to stop Pat Kavanagh went even worse than the first.
The unstoppable attack racked up five goals and five assists to power his team past an overwhelmed SU squad 22-8 on Saturday at Arlotta Stadium.
The huge loss capped a week of turmoil for the Orange after leading goal scorer Chase Scanlan was reinstated to the team but then told by its captains that if he insisted on practicing with the entire group the rest of the players would walk off the field. Scanlan practiced on his own this week and did not make the trip to South Bend.

Syracuse, N.Y. After a week of turmoil, the Syracuse lacrosse team gets a chance to return to the comfort of competition on Saturday.
The No. 9 Orange (6-4, 2-3 ACC) visits Arlotta Stadium to take on No. 4 Notre Dame (6-3, 2-3) in a contest that starts at noon.
Syracuse is coming off a stressful week in which suspended attack Chase Scanlan, the team’s leading goal scorer, was reinstated only to return to practice to find that the rest of the team refused to take the field with him. He will not travel to Notre Dame.

After the entire 2020 minor league baseball season was canceled because of Covid, the Mets return to the field Tuesday by hosting Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at 6:35 p.m. Maximum attendance is 2,163, and according to Syracuse general manager Jason Smorol the game will be a sellout.
