KUCHING: Two villages in Sarawak will be placed under an enhanced movement control order for two weeks starting Friday (April 23) until May 6 to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
KUCHING: Sarawak reported 429 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (April 21), dropping below the 500 mark for the first time in seven days.
In a statement, the state disaster management committee said Meradong district recorded the highest number with 82 new cases, including 65 from the new Sungai Lemayong cluster.
Other districts reporting new cases are Sibu with 62, Bintulu (58), Kuching (54), Bukit Mabong (36), Miri (23), Kapit (21), Song (17), Mukah and Sarikei (11 each), Julau (seven), Samarahan (six), Kanowit, Subis, Selangau and Limbang (five each), Marudi, Matu and Pakan (four each) and Sri Aman (two).
In addition, Pusa, Serian, Dalat, Saratok, Beluru, Belaga and Bau reported one case each, bringing the state s cumulative tally to 25,558 cases.
KUCHING: Four new Covid-19 clusters involving 13 longhouses have been identified in Sarawak, as the state reported 589 new cases and three deaths on Monday (April 19).
The state disaster management committee said the Sungai Anus cluster involving a longhouse in Sungai Anus, Selangau, had 39 confirmed cases to date after the index case tested positive on April 9.
The Sungai Selitut cluster involving another longhouse at Sungai Selitut, Tatau, has 18 confirmed cases to date. The index case was detected through pre-employment screening at the Tatau health clinic on April 10, the committee said in a statement on Monday.
In Matu, the Sungai Passin cluster was detected involving four longhouses with 49 confirmed cases to date.

KUCHING: All schools in red zones in Sarawak will be closed for 14 days beginning tomorrow following a spike in COVID-19 cases, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the government took this measure because infections had been reported in school areas and could spread to students, parents and teachers.
“In order to protect the health of children and the local communities, the Sarawak government decided to close all schools in red zones,” he told a press conference on enforcement of the standard operating procedure (SOP) at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
As of yesterday, 18 districts in the state were under the red zone, with new daily cases hitting 508.
