CLARKS GREEN At the Clarks Green council meeting July 21, Leah Rosencrans, partner of the accounting firm Murphy, Dougherty, & Company, presented council an audit for the year 2020. She gave a modified approval based on the way council budgets its accounts.
“It was a clean audit,” she said.
Rosencrans went through the general fund with council. She reported that the balance for Dec. 21, 2020, was $288,739 an increase of $6,590 for the year. She also reported the revenue to be $603,000 an expenditure of $597,000.
She said that council budgeted to decrease the fund balance by $835,000 but was able to increase it by $6,000. She then announced the liquid fuels balance to be approximately $76,000, which is a decrease of about $37,000 for the year. She said that the expenditures in the liquid fuels fund were for paving in 2020.

96-year-old Cumberland County business sold to Bedford County company

The acquisition consists of three aggregate plants, four hot mix asphalt plants, two ready mixed concrete plants, paving and heavy highway construction in the Harrisburg area.
“The facilities are ideally situated between NESL’s existing Chambersburg and Allentown locations, expanding its construction materials footprint and market scope into the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania market,” New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. said in a press release.
The 96-year-old Hempt Bros. provides highway and road construction, excavation, asphalt paving and concrete paving. The company also supplies stone, asphalt, and ready mix concrete throughout the region.
Hempt Bros. Inc., a highway contractor and supplier of construction materials in Lower Allen Township, Cumberland County, has been purchased by New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., based in Bedford County.

What happened: Supervisors conditionally approved plans for Lapp Valley Farm to relocate its creamery and concessions business to Old Philadelphia Pike in Gordonville.
Background: Lapp Valley Farm is an active dairy farm and tourist attraction based in New Holland that features a petting zoo, ice cream shop and other concessions. Because its owners would prefer to maintain the dairy farm as a separate entity, supervisors initially heard plans in 2018 to move the farmâs manufacturing and retail operations to a 5-acre subdivision within Leacock Township. The property is located along Old Philadelphia Pike (Route 340) near the South New Holland Road intersection. An address has not been established with the township or post office at this time.
