The AC/GC girls track and field team will start their week in Nevada.
The Chargers will make the trip this afternoon to compete against BCLUW, Boone, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Des Moines Christian, Nevada, Ogden, and West Marshall. AC/GC will hope to get into peak form as post season competition is right around the corner.

A Panorama High School senior is one of only four students to receive an Iowa Scholarship for the Arts to support their education this fall. Ruby Hummel of Yale has received the prestigious $2,500 award from the Iowa Arts Council, which is a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. Hummel says she was inspired by her teachers and her peers and wants to continue to perform while studying to become a music educator at Drake University in Des Moines. Her goal is to help future generations connect with music. “These students have demonstrated exceptional artistic ability, and we’re delighted they will pursue their education here in Iowa,” says Iowa Arts Council Administrator, David Schmitz. “An education in the arts will help them develop creativity and critical-thinking skills as they prepare for future careers in the arts or other areas.” Other winners include Faith De Groot from Alta Aurelia High School, Mikayla Lane of Crestwood High School and Mio Legaspi of De

It happened within minutes: Newberry, participating in the same team training class at Genesis Health Clubs in Clive he s attended for the last three years, was talking to his trainer about how to improve his mile time on the treadmill.
Then his wife, Dawn, watched him collapse.
At that point, Clive Fire Chief Rick Roe said, Newberry became one of 350,000 a year who suffer sudden cardiac arrest. For some reason, his heart just stops beating, and he’s laying here, Roe said. He has less than a 10% chance of survival at that point.

Governor Kim Reynolds made headlines on April 8 by telling a conservative talk radio host Iowa had turned down a request to shelter some unaccompanied migrant children in federal custody. “This is not our problem. This is the president’s problem,” Reynolds explained.
“No one will ever confuse Reynolds with Gov. Robert Ray,” observed political cartoonist Brian Duffy. “This is surely the low point of the administration of Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds,” noted longtime commentator Chuck Offenburger. Many other Iowans were disappointed or even “ashamed” by the governor’s lack of compassion.
But never let it be said that Reynolds lacks any charitable impulses. Thanks to her willingness to donate her time and the use of a state-owned building, the private Des Moines Christian School raised $30,100 at its True-Blue Gala auction last night.
