A Panorama High School senior is one of only four students to receive an Iowa Scholarship for the Arts to support their education this fall. Ruby Hummel of Yale has received the prestigious $2,500 award from the Iowa Arts Council, which is a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. Hummel says she was inspired by her teachers and her peers and wants to continue to perform while studying to become a music educator at Drake University in Des Moines. Her goal is to help future generations connect with music. “These students have demonstrated exceptional artistic ability, and we’re delighted they will pursue their education here in Iowa,” says Iowa Arts Council Administrator, David Schmitz. “An education in the arts will help them develop creativity and critical-thinking skills as they prepare for future careers in the arts or other areas.” Other winners include Faith De Groot from Alta Aurelia High School, Mikayla Lane of Crestwood High School and Mio Legaspi of Des Moines Christian School.
