Oxford daycare sued over infant death

OXFORD • A couple has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against an Oxford daycare over the November 2020 death of their 9-week-old daughter. Joe and Jenna Hastings argue that the shockingly coldhearted acts and omissions of Mother Goose of Oxford directly caused the suffocation death of Brynlee Renae Hastings. The complaint, filed May 14 in Lafayette County Circuit Court, says the infant was left neglected and untouched for approximately 35 minutes while swaddled, face down on the floor. The lawsuit names daycare owners Mike and Alicia Valle as defendants, as well as employees Amy Rogers, Renee Hoover and Susan McCollum. Rogers also faces criminal charges in the death. The civil lawsuit does not specify a damage amount, but asks for compensatory and punitive damages to be determined by a jury.

Twin Cedars Girls Had Memorable Final Home Game

The Twin Cedars Girls basketball Squad made significant improvements this season. The Sabers, for starters, more than doubled their win total from a year ago, from five last season to 11 this year, and for a few games was above the .500 mark this season. While their season did not end how the Sabers would have liked, the final regular season game will go down as the game, if not the finish of the year. With time winding down, the Sabers trailed by five points and Coach Trent Verwers witnessed the comeback of the season. Verwers: “I told the girl in that time out, we need to get aggressive and if you foul so be it. Kisha Reed got the deflection and Brooke Roby got the game winning layup. It was one of those moments that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives and it was a great way to send the seniors out in their last home game.”
